Science/TechnologyThin-film Lithium Niobate Could Decide Who Wins The Hardware Race by Alphabyte3(op): 2:30pm On Apr 29
Thin-film lithium niobate is emerging as a potential breakthrough material for photonics that could sidestep the limits of traditional silicon. As AI clusters push data rates beyond 800 gigabits per second, silicon photonics is hitting a “Silicon Wall” of poor efficiency and heat. Silicon modulators consume too much power and generate excessive heat at those speeds, making them a bottleneck for moving data between GPUs in large-scale AI systems.

Lithium niobate offers a way through. It is a ferroelectric crystal that modulates light with extreme efficiency and linearity. The key advance is the ability to slice it into 300-700nm thin films and bond them onto silicon wafers. This creates hybrid TFLN-on-silicon chips that combine lithium niobate’s superior optical properties with CMOS-compatible manufacturing. The result is photonic engines with lower drive voltage, higher bandwidth, and better energy per bit than silicon-only designs.

China currently leads in building a TFLN supply chain. The CHIPX facility at Shanghai Jiao Tong University launched a dedicated 6-inch wafer production line in June 2025, giving Chinese researchers and companies early access to volume manufacturing. The video argues the West faces a 2027 deadline to establish domestic capacity. Without it, Western firms may remain dependent on Chinese-produced lithium niobate boules, creating strategic risk for critical infrastructure like AI data centers and 6G networks.

Western efforts are accelerating to close the gap. In the US, Quantum Computing Inc. is building a TFLN foundry in Arizona. HyperLight is commercializing high-performance modulators, and imec in Europe has demonstrated successful integration of TFLN onto silicon platforms. Japan is also investing in related R&D.

The primary applications driving adoption are clear. First is AI data center interconnects, where TFLN can remove bottlenecks in GPU-to-GPU and rack-to-rack communication as models scale. Second is 6G infrastructure, which will require ultra-high-bandwidth, low-latency optical links that silicon struggles to deliver. Third is photonic quantum computing, where lithium niobate’s strong nonlinearity enables efficient generation of entangled photon pairs on chip.

If TFLN manufacturing matures, it could become the foundation for the next decade of high-speed optics. The material physics are proven, but supply chain and integration remain the barriers. Who controls TFLN production by 2027 may influence leadership in AI, telecom, and quantum hardware.

Nvidia just fixed an issue about robotics simulation and task in real time by increasing the frame rates (FPS). Isaac Lab reaching over 150,000 frames per second (FPS) for reinforcement learning (RL) tasks as of early 2026. For real-time physical deployment, Jetson modules support high-speed perception (60-120+ FPS) and low-latency processing, critical for AI-driven, physical robotics.

Unitree achieved physical AI by using lower FPS and a Commonly support up FPS for RGB, with depth maps often operating to support real-time SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) using perception System 3D or 4D LiDAR (e.g., Livox-MID360) and depth camera (e.g., Intel RealSense D435i) for full-environment scanning.

Building robots is costly, requiring expensive components like custom chips, lithography machines, massive circuit boards, or simpler Arduino/Raspberry Pi sensors, plus plastic and metal 3D printers.

Assembly demands expertise to avoid damaging parts. After building, marketing becomes the hardest challenge. Success depends on budget, technical skill, and your ability to sell the finished robot.

Are there any FPV drone (quadcopters preferably) hobbyists in Lagos? If yes do you guys have meet ups? I've recently started developing interest in this hobby and looking to step it up a few notches. Looking to get into racing and acrobatics and was wondering if anyone else is in the same "madness" with me.

I've assembled an F450 QC drone kit in the past and recently dusted that kit. But for the life of me, I can't lay a hold on a small 3S battery. 4S and above look like a mirage. Also finding it difficult to get ESCs especially the compact single module ones for a quads. I currently have a basic FC (an old APM v2.8 ) which I'm looking to integrate with a Raspberry Pi or Raspberry Pico to start getting my hands dirty in autonomous flights and leveraging the new AI tools available.
Terrahaptix are building a 34,000-square-foot drone manufacturing facility, located in Accra, Ghana, will serve as Terra Industries’ primary regional defense manufacturing base for drone and counter-drone systems.

The business is lucrative many robotics startups are springing up in Abuja . With all the Lagos guys no robotics factory .

If you are a complete novice you can build an enterprise app you will need Google Snitch for UI , antigravity and copilots for code them build it on your vs 2026 or xcode if your are on Mac depending on the platform your are on you will need a alot of resources like data and time . When the setup is done your efficiency would be 100% faster.

Solana will be profitable this week I don't know because of many launches. Where This signaled growing involvement from large investors, showing institutions were stepping in more heavily. Their increased participation often drives stronger, sustained market moves compared to retail activity alone.

I read in the Stanford AI index report that, "Robots still fail at household tasks, performing just at 30% even though they excel at controlled environment evaluations (90%)."

Enter frontier robotics, advanced robots built to mitigate these failure points. One major important augmentation to achieve this is giving robots spatial memory. Remembering what they saw, where they saw it, its relationship to other objects, and when last they saw it.

Localized geo spatial memory is still research Google and Nvidia should do a collaboration.
This “robotics eye network” stack lets machines see, understand, and share the world. MultiSet AI provides cm-level VPS localization for indoor/outdoor fleet coordination, with SDKs for integration. Google ARCore Geospatial API adds ∼1m global positioning via Street View/satellite data. Niantic Spatial Platform offers crowdsourced 3D maps for shared AR anchors. Together: See via camera, Know via geo-data, Share maps, Act with navigation/AR. Uses: markerless warehouse bots, precise drones.

EducationRe: I Built Two Android Utilities For Students/office Use – Feedback Needed! by Alphabyte3: 1:26pm On Apr 17
skillapp:
Hello Nairalanders,

As a Nigerian developer, I’ve been working on a portfolio of utility apps using Java/B4X. I wanted to share two of them that I think would be very useful for people in the Education and Business sections here.

1. Instant Results Math Solver: This isn't just a basic calculator. I built it to help students tackle complex problems quickly.

Features: Solves Polynomials from degree 2 to 10, Quadratic equations, and Simultaneous equations (Solving 2 to 10) equations at a time. No need of entering co-efficients, just enter your long equation direct as shown below and click solve or enter from draggable keyboard. You should get accurate result instantly.

Input: You can type using draggable keyboard or you can copy and paste equation from internet or elsewhere in acceptable format or use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to scan Image and extract equation or math expressions. You can also use OCR to scan PDF to extract equation or math expressions or just focus your phone camera on any object that contains equation or math expressions you want to capture and solve instantly.

Goal: To provide instant results for quick verification of homework.

Here is the Google Play Store Link that I need to push its final release as others are going through Google reviews right now:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skill.instantsolver

2. Talking Album Vault+ : This is a productivity vault designed to handle more than just "organizing or hiding photos." This app helps you organize your files into about 20 categories/folders like research, photo, family, video, audio, animation, PDF, html/txt, contact, calendar notes, pencil-sketch, favourite, architecture, Wallpaper, food, pet, friends, private, selfie etc.

Features: It has inbuilt video player, audio player and audio recorder. In each of the folder categories are common daily tools for your album. For example, in family or photo related categories, you can click just a button to remove image background. With a click, you can generate pencil sketch of your photo which you can share or save. You can generate black and white for your album photo, you can Enter Story Line for each of your album files with tts engine to narrate them for your friends or family once clicked.

With just a click, you can print you photo to PDF or printer as well as converting from jpg to PNG or Bmp or jpeg or Webp images just with one click. Each of the folder categories has their peculiar tools, In PDF folder, it has built-in PDF-to-Image extractor and can help you view/read your PDFs without having acrobat reader or any PDF viewer on your phone. It can zoom in or out so you can enjoying reading your PDF in this album. You can also extract text from PDF and many more fantastic features in PDF and other categories like audio, video, Wallpaper etc.

Unique Twist: It uses Text-to-Speech so the vault can "talk" or read out saved descriptions.

Here is the Google Play Store Link that I need to push its final release as others are going through Google reviews right now:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skill.albumvault

I am looking for "Beta Testers" here to tell me how the OCR in Instant Result Math Solver performs on different Nigerian textbooks and how the image background remover or pencil-sketching your album photo work for you.

Please let me know if you encounter any bugs or if there are specific math topics you want the solver to include or improve
Nice multi-purpose apps but you need to use material design as an android developer better UI/UX . Check the material design repo here .

Anyway if you like be waiting for x 100000. You'll join the band wagon.
If you invest $1000 on Bitcoin and $1000 on altcoins the profitablity margin will be a proof that altcoins growth are faster than bitcoin unless you are putting higher deposits like $10k I would say low cap traders should explore Altcoins also with BTC.

It is good to follow your own intuition because taking such risk is a huge lost or gain. Not a financial advise it is better if everyone follows their intuition.

Hope u know the bold only apply to the listed three & not your rave coin or altcoins? Some of these altcoins will go down & never recover. It's a 50/50 thing for all altcoins except eth & bnb.
Altcoins cost less than major coins so small capital inflows can drive bigger percentage gains. Lower price means modest profits move the market more, offering higher upside potential but also higher volatility and risk versus established assets.

If you’re 50/50 on copy-trading memecoins, risking it could yield thousands to millions. Most memecoin traders make $200-$60K daily/monthly, depending on deposit size. Crypto is ultimately a game of chance.

It's a scam pump. We've seen this many times before. When it will dump you won't believe the crash. They'll wait for shorts to build up then run up a mad wick the know its over. Once you see that wick it's done
It is because of listing fees and others that why it crashed. Even BTC is unstable sometimes. Investors are cautious moving to the next coin for profits. The market loss is someones gain and the market gains is someones loss.

Many investors and traders has loss money in BTC, BNB or ETH but the wise know in the future it will be double today's price . It was boil down to patient and luck.
