Greetings to everyone from @Alpha fisheries & farm services, like we are known here to be fish farmers (catfish & tilapia) respectively. Lately, people are accusing me of abandoning catfish for tilapia farming, but I beg to disagree on this, both have their strength and weakness, and we are still farming catfish since inception and we will continue, no matter the status of the economy. Back to the topic at hand, how can one still be in business of farming catfish in this current economy of ours? before now, most of the farms I supply catfish seeds to have shutdown, or planning to shutdown activities, due to high running cost. Eg fueling feeding, drugs etc. I tell people in fish farming business today, that I have engaged more hands in my farm, added more ponds, expand my hatchery, got an operational mini bus etc all in this current economy. I will be sharing my ideas here for free, for people not to give up on farming fish and for newbie who wants to take fish farming as their business, they say desperate times requires desperate measures, below are some the measures we took to revived our catfish farm business 1. We changed our marketing strategies:- dear fish farmers in the building, how will you suffer to raise catfish to table size, only for you to call those middle men and women to come give you peanut and take away your sweat? And at the end, these middle men and women will retail those fish and make a fortune on your sweat. Why not retail them yourself and make your money. For details on how to go on this, let's discuss further. 2. We improved on our hatchery seedlings:- you can't sow a wrong seed and expect to reap well, this is as easy as A B C, we invest heavily on knowledge, that was why we went to Thailand & greece to see what they are doing right over there, we are galad we added this technology to our knowledge of hatching here. 3. We are taking advantage of the naira to dollar wahala:- we went for a search for selling our smoked dry catfish to europe and the uk, we got a link for that, and we are keying in to it, our target customers are Nigerians over there, they must cook our native soups that for sure, so we are filling the gap on that and earning in foreign currency. 4. Attaching your fish farm with other related business:- have you ordered for a pizza of 5 to 6k, and it was delivered to you in your office, home, hangout spot etc? My wife grilled some table size catfish in the comfort of our house, and has 2 delivery bike men that delivers in and around the estate or vicinity. Believe me she makes millions from that side hustle of hers, a drlled big fish can go as 7 to 8k, and she gets nothing less than 10 to 15 orders per day, by weekends the order doubles, now do your math 5. Go earthen pond way:- the cost of pumping water to concrete ponds or traupolin is draining, due to the current cost of petrol or diesel, I will advise anybody that wants to venture into fish farming, to have a swampy area and prepare your farm there to save cost of buying fuel on a daily basis, what you need to do there is to make sure there's security 24/7. In conclusion, every business is facing some challenges, fish farmers are not left out, you need to think out of the box to sustain your business. For improved & fast growing, disease resistant catfish seedlings, or what we call fingerlings or juveniles, contact us to come delivery to your farm any where in nigeria. Our Address:- Engr. Akin close, ojota, epe, Lagos State, we deliver anywhere in nigeria and west africa Phone:- 08021106583 email:- alphafarms2014@gmail.com
