SportsRe: Barca New Signing, Coutinho, Out For Three Weeks With Thigh Injury by amamahdaniel(m): 5:57pm On Jan 08, 2018
According to Barça's official website, Coutinho has an injury to his right thigh and is expected to be out for around 20 days.
In my opinion, he is not really injured. Just like what LFC did by faking his injury until his future is decided, Barça chose to preserve Coutinho for 3 weeks, which is also the amount of time left for the end of transfer window. Coincidence ? Nah. For many reasons :
✔ 1st, Barça wants to fix the jersey numbers problem. Paulinho, Dembélé and the other signings all had their numbers on their presentations, Coutinho didn't. Therefore the club still can't decide what jersey number Phil should wear. There are 3 options :
• Take off the 7° jersey from Arda right away and give it to Coutinho, which will seem very disrespectful towards Turan, who is still a part of the team and had contributed in many trophies we won in the past. Guardiola had done the same with Eto'o and Henry in 2008/09 summer preparations when he gave the 9 to Henry and the 14 to Samuel. It didn't end well.
• Let Arda keep the number 7 and give some other available number to Coutinho, most probably the 24°. In case Arda leaves during the following weeks, which is more likely to happen, then Coutinho will have to change it to 7°. It'd be better if he keeps one number during the whole season.
• Wait until the Arda Turan saga ends, and decide Philippe's number according to what happens. 24° if Arda stays and 7° if Arda leaves. And that's what Barça did. Coutinho jerseys are already beeing sold in Barcelona stores with the number 7 on them. Which means Arda will most probably be sold this winter. They just don't want to disrespect him by giving his number to another player while he is still here.
✔ Secondly, the guy is still new to the city, to the club. He just arrived to Barcelona yesterday. He still didn't find a home yet, he's reportedly going to live next to Suarez and Messi. He's still yet to know how the club works and share some training sessions to know more about his teammates and what Valverde wants from him. He needs time to settle down with his family. This transfer window wasn't easy for him so he needs to take some rest before attacking the games.
✔ He needs time to adapt, so does Dembélé. Technically they both joined the club at the same time, Ousmane is still new to the system aswell, he's been injured for 4 months. A Coutinho in the team right now would disturb Dembélé's adaptation. Not only Phil could play in same position as Dembouz, but also in terms of integration. For a player to integrate better in a team he needs to be in an atmosphere of integration, Coutinho (new) and Dembélé (also new) in the same team is no good. Dembélé has to start amongst 10 players who already know each other, to understand the automatisms, little by little. So must do Phil. Throwing Coutinho in there aswell when Dembélé is still learning will just put Ousmane in an uncomfortable situation.
It's like asking a guy who doesn't know how to swim to help a guy who is drowning.
✔ And last but not least, is the mutual respect between Barcelona and Liverpool. The latter had announced Coutinho is injured just to let him deal with his future at the club without caring about the games. It would be low from Barça to play Coutinho since the start, it'd mean he wasn't injured like LFC announced. So Barça preserved the fake injury news LFC started. I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the deal also.
Bartomeu took the right decision by not playing Coutinho right away.

Oga you guys are just spewing thrash everywhere about Pep Guardiola making EpL look like a joke.

Last season where was he? He finished completely trophyless. If the premiership is really crap league, he should have hit the ground running from the very first day. If he's winning big now, he's simply upped his game and clearly with some bit of luck too.

EpL is ALWAYS more competitive than that shittty Two horse race LA Liga. Deal with the truth. Low self esteemed SPENDiola fans.

Yes he does not have Messi but where was he last season?

do u know how much he spent this season on new players?

if their performance were short of what u see wont u say City or Pep is cursed?
where was he last season 3rd. Just accept the fact that English league is Just over hype. while he was coaching the best team then he can not even achieve 16 win and 1 draw in his first 17 games. while in Bayern Munich or Barcelona. I can imagine how he has win almost all the top 6 team in league and 11 and 14 point difference between 2n and 3rd. what a shame after just 17 rounds.

When gaudiola was in Spain. They said he was not a good coach that he has Messi and Co. They said if he come to English league he will not see even see top 4 . I swear English league is the easiest. I wonder why he is just winning with 3 goal and above in the so called called hardest league. I cant even imagine out if 17 match win 16 and draw 1. What he can not even achieve in Spain or Germany. English league is Just over hype.

Don't mind them naysayers. They know nothing about football. I have always told them here on this forum, (you can check my posts for proof)

Epl seems difficult because there are so many flawed teams with average and non tactical coaches competing against each other. Now a very good tactician is here. Their yash don open.

This is Guardiola's best start to a season in all his coaching career. Even while he was at the Barcelona B, he never had it this easy.

Even when he had the best football team ever in 2009, he never had it this easy.

Even when he was at Bayern Munich, in a league touted as a 'one horse race' he never had it this easy.

Let the naysayers continue to say nay, and Pep will continue to put them to shame.
English league just have money and good sponsorship. the league is not competitive. Guadiola that they were shouting to come over to England. that he will not even see top 4. it's big shame that he has 11 and 14 point respectively more than 2nd and 3rd. that is how they are still shouting that Messi should come to England that he will not see anything. I Swear English league is Just over hype. Spain is more superior
