goodman3: Goodafternoon everybody!!.....you all are doing a great job here. I have been an ardent follower of this thread for a while now. I can see a lot of aspirants in here and I'm glad to see that a lot of youths would like to partake in this noble profession called MEDICINE. BTW, I'm a 400 level student of medicine and surgery and I have a piece of advice for you aspirants. I would suggest u read this with a neutral mindset because this is the truth that many people won't tell you about medical school. I begin.......
1) getting into medical school in Nigeria is like getting a camel through a needle. It is very difficult and your chances of getting admitted for medicine and surgery is very low except u have connections or you are exceptionally intelligent with high scores in jamb and post ume or God just loves u dearly. U will have to read like u want to die. So many jambites write jamb for years because they are waiting for medicine admission.....u must do everything u can to stand out if you really wanna study medicine.
2). Getting admission into medicine is the easiest part of your journey. Your pre-med is your first challenge. You have to pass all your science courses before making it into the college of medicine. A lot of students get stuck here because of unseriousness. Being studious and being smart will pull you through. U mist work hard here if not, OYO. I remember staying awake most nyts after drinking nescafe with cold water and without milk just to stay awake. There was serious competition to crossover.....it was bloody.
3). The college of medicine is HELL.....trust me!!! Your first month there will be so easy but don't be deceived. You have to read for hours every night to cover your syllabus. Its really voluminous.....in your preclinical, you will spend 18 months studying 3 courses that others study for 4 years each =12years. So do the math! If you don't read enough, u will fail and your woes will start right there.
3). 3rd year is tedious. The 2nd MBBS is already knocking at the door. This is the most important exam u will write in your life because it determines if u will be a doctor or not. U have only 3 chances of writing this exam after which u are rusticated from the college of medicine. In my school, there are students here that have stayed in preclinical for 8 years. The 2nd MBBS is bloody....u have to read like maaaaad!!!! For example I slept for about 4 hours everyday. The other hours were for reading!
In essence, if u are not ready to study hard, don't even apply for medicine or else u will end up wasting 5 years of your life trying to pass 2nd MBBS. But if u are willing to work hard and sacrifice your time for study, then medical school is for you. There are also other hurdles to pass in clinicals oo....but this is all I know. During ours, only 1/3 of the class passed but everybody worked hard, u just need to stand out or get knocked out.....its a jungle in here. U can spend months inside school without having time to leave school premises.....it can get that bad.
Everybody in med school needs a relaxation factor to supress the whole stress.....just find yours. For some people its weed, church fellowship, food, sleep.......mine was girlssssss I had a lot of them to ease my tension when I needed them.
Finally, its God who guides u thru med school.....he's the supreme!!!
Getting into medical schools is the easy part.....the hard part is staying in medical school.
So before u fill medicine in your jamb form again, ask yourself if u can take the heat.......
Bless........ nice one sir ........thanks for the heads up. |

KPhantom: According to Dr Benjamin, “the JAMB has further explained the policy to redistribute candidates who have cut-off marks less than what their institutions of first choice required to needy institutions; that was done to assist the candidates and their parents,” noting that the ASUU UI chapter’s claim that it was anti-poor was not untrue. This was just as he described the union’s claim that JAMB would make about N1 billion as proceeds from candidates buying cards to check their redistribution status as unfounded, noting that checking was completely free. He called on parents and candidates to check the Board’s website from Thursday, July 30 for their names and institutions they are placed in.
Deadline For 2016 Admission Process Announced
As part of the decisions taken in the 2016 JAMB Combined policy meeting held yesterday, the closing date for all 2016 admission process is November 30th, 2016.
Speaking after the meeting, Minster of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu who disclosed this equally warned institutions against going beyond their admission quota stating that institutions that default will face sanctions.
According to him, admission by merit is 45%, catchment area 35% and educational development in less developed states 20%, for federal universities
While fort state universities, admission by merit is 40%, catchment 40 % and less developed local governments get 20%,’’
He further warned institutions against admitting students into un-accredited courses in their institutions. so till 30th lawun lawun hmm pls d % stuff is it for each department or for admission into Uniben as a whole |

frenchkiss16: I saw this update on Uniben Facebook group.
"My people, indeed if u are not informed you will be deformed, today I had to meet with a university professor and he is also among the committee that sets the admission procedures for his university , after our decision he explained to me what the New policy means and I think I should let u guys know too ... First scrapping of # postume by FG means that they will be no buying of postume scratch cards or candidates setting for any other university exams apart from that of jamb. University can actually screen their student and aspirant but not through exam rather they will screen them by their performance in jamb which means those with higher score and who also reached the school and departmental cutoffs will be admitted , according to him the FG wants to cob the corruption going on in the university all in the name of conduct of #postume ,and to Achieve this no university in Nigeria will or can ever conduct postume again. When the university are done with their own admission jamb can now redistribute those that weren't admitted to other schools and faculties. Example if u applied for # Medicine in Unn and ur score was 250 and u were not admitted ; its either they transfer you to #medlab or Nursing depending on ur score ... Finally my own professor and academia equally told me the Same thing this afternoon and he said Collins are u aware they will be nothing like postume again ...... But the truth is that this policy will favour those with enough money to sort their way out my dear #jambites take heart everything will be fine" hmmm this policy is somehow good and somehow bad , the fg should implement diz as of next year den it will b reasonable cause by then student will know wat dey r up against #no high score in jamb no admission# and the fg by then should look into jamb shortcomings as regard d exam and I think to some extent ensure DAT wat happened during d exam diz year does not repeat itself cause a lot of smart guyz were marked down by jamb due to one server problem or CBT issues and the rest .......BT looking on the bright side I would say diz year jamb there was mass failure so to say , and as a result departmental cutoff marks won't b so high and diz will likely favour those with high jamb scores diz year .....BT with post utme I think those who were wronged by jamb can redeem themselves and those with high jamb scores can justify themselves .......well wetin I know .....I look unto God and I pray it favour us .....#fingers crossed and good morning . |
