Leadership of this country should sit up and get a grip of things before it is too late.
If it can't restore law, order and decency then we should all sit down and agree to terminate this democratic journey.
Terminate the democratic journey and replace it with what? Bandits in uniforms, who fight for power, snatch and grab it with the guns paid for by the taxes of civilians?

Do you realise that 16 years of our first 24 years of democracy since 1999 had military dictators recycled as civilian presidents huh

Nigeria loses 47% of dollar millionaires, retains 4th position in Africa

Nigeria has lost nearly half of its dollar millionaires over the past decade, with the population of high-net-worth individuals falling by 47 per cent between 2015 and 2025, according to the 2025 Africa Wealth Report by Henley & Partners in collaboration with New World Wealth.

Despite the sharp erosion in private wealth, Nigeria retained its position as Africa’s fourth-largest hub for dollar millionaires, with 7,200 millionaires, 20 centi-millionaires (individuals with investable wealth of at least $100 million) and three billionaires, trailing only South Africa, Egypt and Morocco.

The report showed that South Africa remained the continent’s wealthiest country by number of dollar millionaires, with 41,100 millionaires, 112 centi-millionaires and eight billionaires. Egypt followed with 14,800 millionaires, 49 centi-millionaires and seven billionaires.

Appeal Court Removed ‘Illegal’ NURTW President ‘MC Oluomo’, But He Won’t Quit Office

Musiliu Akinsanya, a former chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Management Committee, has continued to disregard the law in acting as national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), a trade union of transport workers in the country.

In November 2024, a Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed an earlier National Industrial Court of Nigeria judgment pronouncing Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as president of the union.

Baruwa had served for four years and he was to be serving his second term, having been reelected in August 2023, three months to the termination of his first tenure as enunciated by the union’s constitution.

After all, government realizes little-to-nothing from the sector, currently.
Do the same thing for railway. Our states can’t invest for another governor to eat. That’s there notion. They will rather eat the money while they are in power than leave it for another governor.
Investment needed in that sector is huge.

‘Nigerians tell me to slow down, freezers are freezing’ — Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, on Wednesday said some Nigerians had asked him to “slow down” the improvement in electricity supply because, according to him, their freezers were now working continuously.

Tegbe made the statement in Abuja while speaking at the commissioning of the 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja.

The minister said he had been receiving feedback from electricity consumers following improvements in power supply in some parts of the country.

“Places that didn’t have light at all for three months are now having 18 hours light. Some areas called me to say, look, I should slow down, that everything in their freezer is freezing.

“That is what freezer is meant to do. Let it freeze the food that needs to be frozen,” Tegbe said.

Tegbe said he had promised during his Senate screening that Nigerians would begin to see noticeable improvements in electricity supply within three to six months.

The minister, however, acknowledged the challenges facing the power sector, noting that some electricity infrastructure in the country was more than 40 years old.

“Some of the infrastructure we have in the electricity and power sector are more than 40 years old. We’re systematically replacing them, phasing them out and bringing new ones,” he said.

Tegbe also raised concerns over the vandalism of critical electricity infrastructure, disclosing that three major transmission towers in Birnin Kebbi had been brought down by vandals.

According to him, the affected towers were part of the infrastructure supplying electricity to Kebbi State and extending to Niger Republic.

He said the vandals attacked the foundations of the towers before bringing them down and cutting parts of the structures for sale in the scrap market.

Tegbe said the Federal Government had established a joint working committee involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the Nigeria Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to monitor and protect national electricity assets.

“You will not believe how many towers get pulled down by vandals,” he said.

He added that the government was working to ensure that vandalism of critical electricity infrastructure was treated as a serious criminal offence.

58,726 students to benefit

Speaking on the Yakubu Gowon University project, Tegbe said the facility combines a 3.3-megawatt solar array with 3MW AC output capacity and battery storage to provide electricity to critical university facilities.

He said the project would support lecture halls, laboratories, ICT facilities, administrative buildings, campus lighting and other essential services.

Tegbe said more than 58,726 students were expected to benefit from the project, which has 6,078 photovoltaic panels and 388 streetlights installed across the university.

He added that the project created 3,201 jobs during its implementation.

The minister said the battery storage capacity could be expanded to enable the project to provide electricity to additional parts of the university, including student hostels.

He said the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, would work with the university to address areas of the campus that still required improved lighting.

Tegbe also urged the university to use the facility as a platform for research into renewable energy, battery storage, smart metering, energy management, grid integration, cybersecurity and other areas of modern energy technology.

The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, described the project as a significant milestone under the Energising Education Programme.

Aliyu said the value of the programme should not be measured only by the megawatts of electricity generated but also by its impact on students, academic activities, research and the overall learning environment.

He said reliable electricity would enable laboratories to operate more effectively, strengthen digital services and reduce pressure on university operating budgets.

The REA boss also urged the university to use the infrastructure to advance research into distributed energy resources and develop solutions suited to Nigeria’s energy needs.

The Head of the Nigeria Electrification Project, Olufemi Akinyelure, said the significance of the project should be measured by the wider development opportunities created by reliable electricity.

“The government may not be in the business of making profit, but it must always be in the business of making progress. And perhaps no public investment yields a greater return than investment in education because when we power a university, we do not merely light buildings; we illuminate minds, enable innovation and strengthen the future of our nation,” Akinyelure said.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, commended the Federal Government and the minister for implementing the Energising Education Programme.

Abaribe said reliable electricity was fundamental to the development of Nigeria’s education system, recalling that power supply in universities was more dependable when he was a student.

He, however, stressed that the sustainability of public infrastructure required the active participation of the communities where such projects were located.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, said dependable electricity was critical to the university’s academic mission.

Fawehinmi said a modern university could not effectively teach, conduct research, operate laboratories or sustain digital services without reliable power supply.

He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Rural Electrification Agency for the intervention, describing the solar hybrid project as a major infrastructure investment in the institution.

He also called for continued collaboration among government agencies and the university to ensure that the project remained operational and delivered its intended benefits to students and staff

NUT commends Oyo over recruitment of 19,500 teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde-led government for recruiting 19,500 teachers in five years.

The union, in a statement signed by the NUT Chairman, Oladimeji Raji and the Secretary, Salami Olukayode, noted that the appointment of 5,000 teachers in his first term and 14,500 since the inception of his second term into the state primary and secondary schools was noteworthy.

The union said the ripple effects of the recruitment were that it would address the problems of inadequate manpower in the education sector and promote teaching and learning.

The statement read, “Your disposition towards turning the tide of the education system of Oyo State remains unprecedented and unmatched not only in the annals of recruitment history of our dear state in recent times but also across the entire 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.

“Your Excellency Sir, your achievements in the education sector since assumption of office particularly, on the successful recruitment of over 14,000 qualified teaching professionals and about 3,500 non- teaching personnel, aside from an appreciative number of caregivers is a clear cut and a perfect reflection of your results-oriented style of leadership aimed at providing free, qualitative and quantitative education to the amiable citizens of Oyo State. This gesture shall, without doubt, have a significant touch in our classroom and as well enhance educational service delivery to our school children.”

Lagos, 3 other African cities rank among world’s least liveable in 2026

July 15, 2026

Four African cities have been ranked among the world’s 10 least liveable urban centres in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2026, reflecting the continued impact of insecurity, pressure on public services, infrastructure gaps and governance challenges.

The annual index assessed 173 cities across five indicators: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Each city received a score out of 100 based on how well it performs across these areas.

This year’s rankings placed Harare (Zimbabwe), Lagos (Nigeria), Algiers (Algeria) and Tripoli (Libya) in the global bottom 10, alongside cities affected by conflict, economic challenges and weak infrastructure.

Babasessy:
The Awolowo rebirth in the Southwest has inspired gongs, songs and rhetoric of sorts. But they have missed one point.

It occurred to me in Abeokuta last week amidst the big crowds and euphoria of the swearing-in of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as governor. In all the states from Lagos to Edo, where Awo has witnessed ideological resurgence, hardly a single family member has played a role.

So we have an Awo family without an Awo. That is an irony. But history overwhelms us with this sort of twist. Obafemi Awolowo toiled for his reputation. His roots were lowly, he toiled to school both home and abroad, launched into careers in law, business, journalism and eventually politics. He carved a niche for himself, and became the first methodical and charismatic leftist in our history.  Other leftists abounded but they did not inspire comparable drama and following.

He faced tribulations, went to jail, failed in elections, won a few, but he imprinted his ideas and legacy in the country, and no single mortal has beaten him in the history of this country. His greatest achievement was in the area of ideas, and that was how he fashioned a family. Most families are born of biology but his issued from ideology. That family suffered with him.

In a spoof of Jesus Christ, these were the men who followed him in his teachings, and endured with him in his temptations. So he formed a kingdom for them in the Southwest, in the old Western Region, presiding over his projects, his legacies and people.

In all of these, the family he had was not his flesh and blood. In another spoof of Christ, who were his family anyway? Those who were with him must be counted as his family. So, I combed in the ambience of Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), and I found none. I went to Ogun, I frisked the crowd under Amosun’s bower, hardly any. Around Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in Osun, I could not lay a finger. With Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti, where are the forbears of Awo? Yet, I can hear the chants of Awo. Hardly in any of the inaugural speeches or any of their other public intervention would you miss the philtre and filter of Awo from these gentlemen. To parody Novelist Joseph Conrad, they are the sparks from Awo’s sacred fire, the messengers of the might within the man.

Already all of them are pursuing the legacy ideas of Awo: free education, free health services, infrastructural development, urban renewal and economic engineering.

Lagos has posted itself as the John the Baptist. The others are putting up valiant efforts, and the world of course is watching to see how well they will perform. It will call for great work, resourcefulness and cooperation. They are the real Awoists, and Awo was a man of rigour and vigour.

The Awo son that many expected to take after the father was Olusegun, who unfortunately died in a car crash. We shall never know if he could have pulled it off.  But the others have not shown much of the paterfamilias’ brio and depth. In the past decade, under this republic, they have blended with the wrong crowd. Even H.I.D, hobnobbed with Alao-Akala, who brought illiteracy to governance; with Oyinlola who turned the grace of office into a hell-hole of despots; with Daniel who could not arrest his quick fall into megalomania.

I wrote once that this woman whom Awo once described as the jewel of inestimable value has lost value to his cause. If he came back to life, he would have committed the extraordinary act of divorce after death. Even his newspaper, The Tribune, has so stumbled and fallen that it swims in Awo’s vomit.

Kwankwaso and Dickson have been given renewed hope for 2031, expecting that Tinubu will fail to get a 3rd term, like Obasanjo failed in 2007, in his life president dictator ambitions.

Kwankwaso is the new Utomi.

aswani:
Prof Utomi, yes that President Tinubu's Pat Utomi, is in NDC with him still making sure that he is doing enough to ensure that Peter Obí is not a threat to President Tinubu.

To use a footballing parlance, he has close marked Peter Obí out of making important decisions that might threaten President Tinubu in the elections.

Peter Obi should have stayed in NDC and accepted the VP slot. He is now in a much smaller party and his Obidients are being taken for granted in NDC. Prof Utomi did his job well in 2023 and has now exceeded that already.

lexylaw40:
The “president-elect” saw in Obi's presidential bid, a good chance to reduce the winning chances of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State, Tawfiq Akinwale, on Wednesday stated that the “President-elect” Bola Tinubu asked popular economist, Prof Pat Utomi to step down for Peter Obi in the buildup to the 2023 general elections.

Akinwale made this revelation while he appeared as a guest on a radio programme on 101.7 YES FM, Ibadan, Oyo State, while alleging that Obi received campaign funds from Utomi, whom he described as Tinubu's "son."

The LP aspirant, who spoke in Yoruba language, said "In the buildup to the 2023 elections, Obi who had purchased the nomination form of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suddenly announced his exit from the party.

"Initially, Pat Utomi had secured the LP's presidential ticket, but when Peter Obi said he resigned from the PDP and joined the LP. Bola Tinubu, a master political strategist, quickly told Utomi, that everyone knows to be his son to step down for Obi.

"The “president-elect” saw in Obi's presidential bid, a good chance to reduce the winning chances of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

"What Peter Obi didn't know is much more that what he knows, he started collecting campaign funds from Utomi, while Tinubu was giving the money to Utomi.

"This went on until Obi's presidential campaign got to a stage it went beyond target. Obi was used without him knowing," Akinwale said after announcing his departure from the party.

Obi defected to the LP after resigning his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also withdrawing from the presidential race under the party.

The former governor consequently joined the race for the party’s presidential ticket, while Professor Pat Utomi, in June 2022 stepped down for him to emerge as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, unopposed in Asaba, Delta State.

Muazu Magaji, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kano State, has alleged that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, lobbied members of the party’s committee constituted to advise the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on the choice of his running mate.

Magaji disclosed this while speaking on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, on Thursday.

The Kano politician also argued that there was no proof that Atiku promised Wike the vice president position as claimed.

The PDP committee had recommended the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa; Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel and Wike.

The committee, however, scored Wike above the other two contenders but Atiku decided to settle for Okowa. A decision that has since unsettled Wike’s camp.

Magaji, however, claimed that Wike lobbied to be scored ahead of others, adding that the Rivers State governor should not be trusted with important positions in the country.

2023: PDP and politics of healing Wike’s self-inflicted injury

Then, the race began in earnest for three years now, reaching a frenzy with the works of the two PDP committees on zoning. The first was the Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi committee on the zoning of the PDP party offices. The Ugwuanyi committee quickly told the world the committee’s assignment did not cover zoning the office of the president. Though this was true, the question is: why didn’t the Ugwuanyi committee zone the PDP chairmanship to the North without aligning it to the divide that would produce the PDP presidential flag-bearer? The second committee headed by Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue state was specifically on the zoning of the presidential ticket and, with the votes of the representatives of all the 17 Southern states without any exception, the Committee unanimously recommended throwing open the PDP presidential ticket, which the PDP NEC simply upheld.

One thing irrefutably stands out – Wike shot himself in the leg. Here was a man who had an overarching influence on both committees but could not insist that the ticket be zoned South. Many had wondered why? The reason is also relatively in plain sight: the Southeast factor. As the clamour for zoning of the presidential ticket of the PDP to South reached its crescendo, many had pointed out the fact that though the PDP Constitution had prescribed zoning of the office of the president to be between North and South since the South-west and South-south had taken their turns in producing the president and the vice in this current dispensation in the persons of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, zoning this time around, should not just be to the South but the Southeast.

Atiku Abubakar went a step further by offering to step down from the race if it would be agreed that the touted zoning to the South would mean micro-zoning to the Southeast. Wike and the rest could not take the Atiku challenge maybe because Atiku would likely back Peter Obi, who was his vice-presidential running mate in 2019 and an ally. The prospects of Peter Obi picking the ticket if PDP zoned South was so real compelling Wike to go for an open contest, believing he could pick it up ahead of Atiku, Tambuwal and Bala Mohammed, given his large war chest.

Says a man who accepted nomination to be running mate to Fulani Atiku.
He knew it was injustice to give Atiku the ticket yet he lobbied to be the VP.
grin grin

He knew the party had to go South for the 2023 election, yet he still put Secondus as National Chaiman just to hijack the party..
Only to push Secondus out because he wanted the ticket 2023.

This man remains the biggest problem of PDP.

He can only deceive and fool his minions, not reasonable people.

Whenever you hear the word "visionary leadership" , this is one of the several indices. There are actually several metrics for assessing visionary leadership, but in any case, this concept occupies a centre stage.

Those people suffering from comprehension will certainly come around, quote half of this completely out of context and use it to consolidate their illiteracy and terrible upbringing. Meanwhile, the demented fraud they have been praising to high heaven lacks the basic knowledge of what investment is about.

Visionary leader who buys Dangote shares without employing teachers to make education free for all children?
APC people and balablu bulaba reasoning are inseparable like Siamese twins.

Has the otoge gomina employed as many as 19,500 teachers like Makinde did without claiming to be a progressive?
Does Kwara also have less than 5% schools owned by government despite years of progreThief APC administrations, like Tinubu's Lagos after 27 years of his a-looter master plan grew budget 100 times to N4.2 trillion?

Is Kwara littered with dilapidated schools like Ogun despite 27 years of APC progressive governors and UBEC matching federal funds to help states achieve nine years of free and compulsory education for all children? UBEC was established 27 years ago by the Obasanjo/ Atiku administration.

Uncompleted projects, dilapidated classrooms litter Ogun despite N10.2 billion rehabilitation

PREMIUM TIMES visited schools that the state government claimed to have rehabilitated and found decrepit and inadequate facilities.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said last year that over 400 primary and secondary schools have been renovated in Ogun State under his administration.

However, when PREMIUM TIMES late in 2022 toured the three senatorial districts of the state, our reporter found facilities in many public schools still in deplorable conditions.

The renovation project was executed with a N10.2 billion fund jointly contributed, equally, by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the state government.

UBEC released its share of the fund to the state government in 2019 to address infrastructural decay and inadequate facilities in 236 public schools across the state.

NNPCL’s subsidy payment jump by 47.9% to N7.1trn in 2024

November 26, 2025

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) paid a total of N7.1 trillion as subsidy for premium motor spirit (PMS) in 2024, this sum represents a 47.9 percent increase from N4.8 trillion recorded in 2023.

This is despite the government’s announcement of subsidy removal in 2023.

The company explained that the amount, which it termed ‘energy security expense’ arises when there is differential between the exchange rate used to freeze the premium motor spirit ex-coastal price and the prevailing rate at the point of import settlement.

According to the report, government had instructed that NNPC Limited cannot sell its PMS above a certain regulated price. It added that the cost of petrol import is usually much higher that the regulated price.

Aliko Dangote, the president of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has strongly refuted allegations by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA), insisting its diesel is 80percent superior to those currently imported into Nigeria.

The richest man in Africa said this Saturday while showing members of the House of Reps the company’s facilities.

“Until late last year, diesel imports into Nigeria were up to 7,000 parts per million (ppm) of Sulphur which has been going on for many years. Our diesel is produced currently at significantly lower levels of Sulphur; as such, we find baseless the allegation that the reason for the reduction is linked to quality. What we are producing is 80 percent of what is being imported into the country,” Anthony Chiejine, the company’s spokesperson Dangote Industries Limited said.

Read also: Explainer: Separating fact from fiction in NMDPRA’s claims against Dangote refinery

“Another inaccurate assertion is that Medium Level Sulphur diesel is meant for off-road use. This is a completely false statement as this would have invariably meant that all the imports for the last 20 years have been damaging equipment.

“Thirdly, diesel imports for the high Sulphur grade have been at significantly higher prices until we started operation. If indeed high Sulphur diesel is sold at lower prices how come we never saw the lower prices until now?” the spokesperson said.

Dangote proved through a laboratory test before members of the House of Reps, led by Tajudeen Abbas how the sulphur content of its diesel is within acceptable range in Africa and better than some of diesel currently available in the country.

Dangote diesel currently contains 87.6 ppm

For instance, Dangote’s laboratory officials tested diesel products from two major retail outlets in Nigeria – TotalEnergies and Matrix – against the sample produced by Dangote Refinery.

The test was carried out using a ED-XRF Spectro Photometer, using the ASTM D4294 method.

The sample from TotalEnergies’s diesel showed 1,829ppm sulphur concentration. The sample from Matrix retail showed 2,2752.8682ppm sulphur concentration while the diesel sample from Dangote Refinery showed 87.6ppm sulphur concentration.

Targets 10ppm sulphur content August

“By the end of next week, we should be on 50ppm and by August, it should be down to 10ppm,” Dangote said.

BusinessDay’s findings showed the minimum global standard is 50ppm, while 200ppm is still acceptable in Africa till the end of the year.

On Thursday, July 18, Farouk Ahmed, chief executive officer of NMDPRA alleged Dangote refinery as well as some major refineries like Waltersmith refinery, produce between 650 to 1200 ppm.

I once complained about NPFL clumping all the matches on weekends at 4pm, seems the league has seen the need to spread the kickoff times especially of clubs with high viewership. They've rescheduled Matchday 9 match between 3SC vs Ranchers Bees to Friday evening at 6pm from 4pm on Sunday. Viewership is a big income generator to leagues, even the EPL doesn't joke it as rich as they are. Yes, there are security concerns. I hope there safety measures our in place to ensure the safety of the fans
The league management has to arrange for matches to be played on days when English premier league and European champions league games are not played. This should help grow our own league viewership and socioeconomic benefits for us all.

Monday evening games could be tried out, we might develop a Monday night football culture.

This is a great way to sanitise our league and make it better for everyone involved, so that more people can identify with their home team and participate in the games.

SportblitsNews:
Inter Lagos have been hit with multiple sanctions by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following disciplinary breaches during their Matchday 7 fixture against Katsina United on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The Lagos-based club was sanctioned after failing to provide adequate security during the home match, which reportedly allowed unauthorised persons to gain access to restricted areas and attack match officials as they made their way from the dressing room to their vehicle.

The NPFL also found that match officials were held for more than an hour after the game, while club officials and supporters were accused of conduct that contributed to the incident.

Inter Lagos Fined ₦5.25 Million

The club has been handed a total financial penalty of ₦5.25 million.

The sanctions include:

- ₦2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security.
- ₦1 million for holding match officials for more than one hour.
- ₦2 million for the assault on match officials.
- ₦250,000 compensation to the affected first assistant referee for lost belongings, damage to his phone and medical treatment.

Three Points And Three Goals Deducted

In addition to the financial penalties, Inter Lagos have been hit with a major sporting sanction.

The NPFL has ordered the deduction of three points and three goals from the club's accrued totals following the reported assault and injury suffered by the first assistant referee.

The punishment could have a significant impact on Inter Lagos' position in the NPFL standings.

Inter Lagos have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the sanctions.

What do you think about the NPFL's punishment? Is the three-point deduction fair?
