DeLaRue:
UNN supported. The great South West universities opposed.

Ironically, the South East are now the staunchest critics of the so called quota system in Nigeria.

Every history of Nigeria that I have read, I struggle to find a single time when the Yorubas have been on the wrong side.

Mr Awolowo argued for the inclusion in the constitution for each region to have the right to secede. Mr Azikwe took the side of the Northern Premier in front of the colonialists in London to argue against it. A few years later, Mr Ojukwu went to war fighting for the Mr Azikwe's East to secede from Nigeria, but the Nigerian government refused on the ground that no region has a right to secede. The same secession right that Mr Azikwe had, a few years ealier, staunchly opposed. Another irony.

At Independence, Mr Azikwe parnered with the North and the British to solidify power in tge North despite the opportunity to align with Awolowo to design a modern, progressive foundation for Nigeria. Today, the South Easterns are the ones protesting 'Norther domination' the most.

The Yoruba culture encourages caution, think8ng before acting, and being philosophical about life. I think all these qualities make them more likely to take the right decisions more often than not.
Can it be that Ayédèrú Tinubu is not a Yoruba person and that he is actually a Fulani man huh

Tinubu rules out alliance with CPC

Prospect of a possible alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, was dashed yesterday in Kano as the leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu described CPC as parading “expired leadership.”

Tinubu told ACN supporters in Kano during the party’s Presidential rally that: “What Nigerians need now is a transformation in leadership” as obtained in the advanced economy.

The two-term Governor of Lagos State explained that the leadership of ACN was offering Nigeria the brilliance of Nuhu Ribadu who, he said, is in the class of Nicolas Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain, Medvedev of Russia and Barack Obama of the United States of America.

“What has CPC got to offer? We certainly don’t need expired leadership as we are offering the best in terms of brilliance, courage and patriotism in the class of Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain and Barack Obama of the USA.”

Tinubu’s position came on the heels of Ribadu’s declaration penultimate week in Kaduna when he hinted during a political rally of a joint ticket between the two opposition parties to confront the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The national leader of ACN criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for shying away from the national debate held last Friday, stressing that”that singular act exposed Jonathan as a coward who has nothing to offer.”

How we foiled Jonathan’s effort to make Mulika Adeola Speaker, Akande reveals

AS president in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan did all he could to ensure South West grabbed the country’s number four seat, including lobbying then opposition leaders from the zone, to no avail. The North West eventually grabbed the seat, supported by South West leaders in opposition to then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Governor of Osun State and now statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, made this revelation in his autobiography, “My Participations” which is currently dominating political and national dis- course.

Aminu Tambuwal, now Sokoto State governor, won the seat, against the preferred pick of his party, Mrs Mulikat Adeola Akande, from the South-West. Defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then a fledging opposition, which had Akande and his soulmate, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, as front- line leaders, openly asked its elected members of the House of Representatives, mostly from the South-West, to work against their region and back Tambuwal from North-West.

The opposition party’s support carried Tambuwal through the contest against Akande, then ruling party’s favourite for the speakership seat.

In his book, Chief Akande revealed that former president then as incumbent, personally reached out to Tinubu, who is now believed to be nursing presidential aspiration in 2023 and himself, but couldn’t convince them.

He wrote, “President Jonathan, immediately after the meeting (with political parties), called Bola Tinubu aside into a lobby to broach the matter of ACN support for a choice of who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“That same day, President Jonathan talked to me on phone about the same matter. He disclosed that PDP had zoned the position to the South-West but that only one Muraina and another Mulika won elections on PDP ticket from the zone into the House of Representatives.

How Indorama sustains manufacturers, boosts Nigeria’s FX earnings

Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited (IEPL) has emerged as a major value creator in the Nigerian economy. It is responsible for the survival, growth and sustenance of many manufacturing companies in Nigeria today. A large number of plastic and allied firms depend on the Eleme-based company for petrochemical resins (or polymer resins) which serve as their raw materials.

The petrochemical company is just one of the several subsidiaries of Indorama-Nigeria Group, which also comprises Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IEFCL), Indorama PET Nigeria Limited, and Indorama Port Operations.

Since Indorama Corporation of Indonesia became core investor in the old Eleme Petrochemicals Company Limited (EPCL) in 2006 through privatisation programme of the Federal Government, the group has become a game changer in the Nigerian economy.

The petrochemical company has solved the major challenge facing a number of manufacturers— poor access to raw materials. Rather than scramble for foreign exchange to import inputs, the company ensures that manufacturers have access to their critical raw materials, enabling them to save costs and improve margins.

The major resins used by plastic and allied companies are polyethylene and polypropylene. Indorama produces about 45 grades of these products for various industries. About 600 of such companies in Nigeria depend on IEPL for their survival. They are estimated to have over 90,000 workers.

But US pays better!
A retired military personnel is paid 2000-4000 dollars as pension depending on their final rank!
A retired Nigerian military personnel gets 68-138 dollars per month as pension which most times is delayed!

An entry level soldier in the US pockets more than 2000 dollars per month while an entry Nigeria soldier get less than 75 dollars per month!
We should also consider that the total package of US politicians is not multiple times that of soldiers and other government workers, like we have in Nigeria.

That wage gap, which was previously not as terrible, is the main reason why people japa to work for oyinbo governments at low level jobs that they would not touch in Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

I don't think so o. The question , can makinde break the south west votes and APC stronghold in the south west? Can he pull enough votes in Ondo, Ekiti, Osun , votes enough to win or make a serious political statement

Whereas Peter Obi can easily do that in the south east , he can pull enough votes numbers which can impact election
As long as Obi is not a presidential candidate, why won't Igbos vote for the party he is with, against APC that is decidedly anti-Igbo?

Makinde can bring youthfulness and broadbased appeal to the ticket, unlike Obi's narrow and divisive posturing. makinde's addition is not so much for his personal votes delivery, but for his complementary balance to the ticket, like what Osinbajo did to the Buhari ticket in 2015.

Beyond his neighbours, there is something about the sight of people hanging around a president’s residence that does not speak well of his leadership capabilities. Maybe no one has nudged him to see it, but the impression that spectacle on Bourdillon Road generates is that Tinubu enjoys the sight of suffering humans and thrives in—and through— their poverty.

If all these years, impoverished people hang around you and you remain comfortable enough to keep them just so they can be handed tokens of your large heart, then it means you have a pro-poverty mindset. Such a frame of mind is oriented toward cultivating poverty rather than stimulating abundance.

That is why he could unproblematically relate the story of his “friend” who went from using five Rolls Royce to a far-less valued car and not consider the import of the nonsense he was saying. That spurious account was an indication that this is a man for whom poverty—of others, not himself—is an ideal.

FASHOLA, DOCTORS AND A SICK DAD

To demonstrate how infinitely unrepentant most Nigerian politicians are, it was reported last weekend that the Lagos state governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola sent his sick father to the united states of America for medical treatment even when other poor patients are left to die because of the impasse or the ongoing strike which the state government deliberately failed to resolve.

On May 13th 2012, the citizen platform, an online journal that reports on Nigeria carried a shocking story that Mr. Ademola Fashola, the father of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state, has been flown to the United States for medical attention for an undisclosed ailment, as the crisis rocking health sector in Lagos state continues.
The governor's father was said to be accompanied by two doctors from the state, one of who is the medical director of Ebute-Metta Health Centre, F.O. Williams.

A senior official of the Lagos state government who sought anonymity confirmed that the elder Fashola had been evacuated from the country before the strike.

The citizen platform reported that one of the affected doctors who sought anonymity claimed that the governor once stated, during one of their negotiations that “he has no need for public health hospitals”. “Fashola told us that he doesn't use facilities in the state hospital and that whatever project he carries out there is not for himself,” he said. The doctor also claimed that former Lagos state governor Chief Bola Tinubu, last year, at a meeting to broker peace between the state government and the doctors, said the state could afford to shut down all the public health facilities.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

Nigerian are wise, and the know that they opposition are worse than than the current government.
Is NNPC's petrochemicals division that was privatised to Indorama, part of your patrimony that he sold to himself?

When will you stop peddling these clueless propaganda lies about the foundational brainbox of PDP's 16 years widespread prosperity that was built on privatisation and deregulation policies huh

There's no how you spin it, it is a home goal. It show clearly that Atiku family believes that Tinubu is better than Atiku, hence he pitch tent with who he believes will win the election.

Atiku son understand the trend especially in the north and Kano in particular with their consciousness and strong awareness in Nigeria politics are beginning to lean strongly towards APC. These are facts on ground, you may chose to dismiss it but politics doesn't run on emotions and those who want to put their money into it will do due diligence.
Is that why kwankwaso and his red cap NNPP people are in Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC already huh

Who is going to finance ADC presidential candidate in 2027 election?
Ordinary Nigeirans who are tired of enduring APC extreme poverty shege and palliative sharing progreThief shenanigans.

Ordinary Nigerians who want a return to the 16 years of PDP prosperity and high employment productivity growth, built on deregulation and privatisation policies.

Are you one of those Nigerians already?
Or what are you waiting for to join the REVIVAL group of Nigerians huh

Many with zero idea in political just come online to type rubbish
Don't we have someone with zero idea about governance raking in trillions from Nigerians in taxes, subsidy savings and even loans, only to do rubbish from his rented Aso Villa huh

Can there be people dumber than his followers?

If Atiku’s son doesn’t believe his father has the capacity to be a better president than Tinubu, then you better believe him because he knows him better. There is no way to sugarcoat this.

We must pay attention when close family members of office seekers take decisions against their ambitions. We all heard Peter Obi sometime again claim that his children had to record him anything he’s making promises so that they would have evidence anytime he tries to deny his promises. And not surprisingly, his children stayed away from his campaign in 2023. It’s a message that shouldn’t be lost on Nigerians.
Did you pay close attention to his daughter as well?

That's reason this wicked government removed subsidy, float the naira and introduce various forms of taxes. All the money generated cannot be accounted for instead governors are getting tripped allocation and intervention funds while the common man on the street struggle to eat two square meal.

Buhari came, destroyed the economy and put over 80 million of Nigeria into poverty.
Whatever the 36 governors are sharing is just 27% of the increased revenue from subsidy removal and greater tax burden on the people.

Tinubu alone corners 53% of the federation account.
53% for the federal government alone. Can you imagine what he is doing with all that money huh shocked

That seems like a small amount for the whole of Africa.

Still, better than the UK, and Europe who are more interested in channeling aid towards supporting unorthodox sexual orientation causes in Africa.

The UK in particular has been so disappointing in all of this.

Throughout all of Nigeria's security challenges in recent years, they have done nothing tangible to help.

The UK has the technical capability to help Nigeria with up to 70% of any intelligence assistance that the US can offer, yet in all these years they did not help despite the historical ties between Nigeria and the UK.

Terrible country that is only interested in sneakily exploiting people's resources than assisting.
What a lame sense of entitlement from mentally lazy people.

Why do you even have to expect people of other races to continue helping you after 66 years of saying you don’t want them to govern you anymore?

Is it not shameful that we all are equally made in God’s image but we are not equally working to improve our society huh

TheBedWench:
The one-drop rule is a social and legal principle of racial classification that was historically prominent in the United States in the 20th century. It asserted that any person with even one ancestor of black ancestry ("one drop" of black blood) is considered black (Negro or colored in historical terms).

This concept became codified into the law of some states in the early 20th century. It was associated with the principle of "invisible blackness" that developed after the long history of racial interaction in the South, which had included the hardening of slavery as a racial caste and later segregation. It is an example of  hypodescent, the automatic assignment of children of a mixed union between different socioeconomic or ethnic groups to the group with the lower status, regardless of proportion of ancestry in different groups.[3]

The one-drop rule is defunct in law in the United States and was never codified into federal law.

Neo-black Problem: Must Blacks Be Ruled by Whites in Order to Prosper?

In short, the neo-black dilemma may be framed as follows: is it better to live under white rule without political dignity but with basic life-sustaining standards for many;

or to live under black rule with illusory political dignity and without basic life- sustaining standards for the majority?

The path forward for Africa lies in cultivating higher and adequate levels of personal and communal agential integrity as well as full personal responsibility and productivity. Not to mention creativity (including epistemic creativity), productive justice (such as merit and freedom), harmony and reconciliation at local and international levels, and a proper domestication of capitalism and other related values and institutions.

Africa must stop wasting her time on dreams of socialism because it is a system of wealth distribution primarily. Whereas, capitalism is a system of wealth creation primarily, and wealth has to be produced before it can be distributed.
