* The airports that were renovated and upgraded came in handy, not only during that event but,today they are still our pride and joy. If you see the list of the busiest airports in the world ofcourse Africa,South African airports will be featured and will surely dominate the African list.

*The first speed train in Africa-Gautrain. This train is heavily used by the middle class and tourists to move around the city of Johannesburg and Pretoria and the government is planning on building more stations, reaching the likes of Soweto, Fourways etc. This was definitely a worthy investment if you ask me; classy ,fast and on-time.

*Hospitals and Ambulances The government added more hospitals and renovated the old ones in the cities affected and added more ambulances and personnel to cater for the world cup. These are still intact and helping the local population.

*The stadiums. South African Football League is the most lucrative in Africa, with fans willing to fill up stadiums every weekend especially when derbies are played. The stadiums are still well maintained. They are used in profit generation; global events ; we saw the Funerals of the Mandelas that had dignitaries from all over. We have seen the shows like the recent Chris Brown one in Soweto a week ago and others. So ,nope ,those stadiums arent just sitting there looking pretty, they are useful.

*Roads. Do I need to explain the importance of a good road network? It adds to better standard of living ,helps moves goods faster and safely etc

There are ofcourse other things that were built to.make the tournament a success which are still in use and are of importance to the locals ; like more police stations ,parks , proper food stalls, BRT buses etc but I

After the world Cup South Africa saw the biggest rise in tourism numbers and from people from wealthy countries . South African is now the only country down the Sahara that can outcompete Egypt and Morocco in.tourism numbers from guests of wealthier nations . The world cup was a good advert ,alot of these people came here scared thinking all the propaganda against South Africa was an actual reality from all corners of the cities.....only for them to realise that SA is just like the places they come from ; it's its good and bad side. They became hooked. No one would have thought that Soweto would have so many people visiting it in numbers before that tournament, no one thought that you'd see random Germans going to Cape Town townships to get a drink at a local tavern like Mzolis. These developments were made possible by.that advert called the world cup. The image of SA amidst of all the propaganda was uplifted and this brought along investments and economic development.

I do agree though that the tournament only creates temporary jobs ,nothing sustainable in that regard. But it definitely does open new opportunities for local entrepreneurs; rebranding their services for local and international growth . So many people made long-term friendships and business partnerships with the outside world that still fill-up their pockets today .

And you are correct about the pride and confidence it gives a nation. Yup!!. We know how capable we are of hosting a global event and the world knows too hence,we have been given the opportunity to host some more after the tournament. And it feels particularly good to us because we are in Africa that no one thought would have the audacity to even attempt to bid . And we did ,and the tournament was a success like many others they had. So it's definitely good for the morale of the citizens.

I can never exchange what that tournament did for South Africa for any refinery or factory or plant. The unity it brought among us, the mentality shift about the country from the international community etc. Somethings are priceless. I'm happy to pay those taxes that are used to pay up for all that infrastructure. The audacity of the ANC and the memories of random strangers from all over the world walking randomly on the streets of South Africa is a memory I can't sell for anything.
