Thanks for this important contribution. I might also add that the grading system in most Nigerian schools is modelled after the UK system.

The threshold for 'good' academic work in the US is usually between the 70 - 100 percentage range, whereas it begins at 60% in the UK. One very interesting difference in this context is that you need 90% to score an "A" in the US, wheres 70% would suffice for a similar grade in the UK.

Nonetheless, in my experience, it is arguably easier to get 90% in the US than to get 70& for a similar/comparable work in the UK. British university lecturers do seem more stingy with marks than their American counterparts across board. The course modules and coursework design also seem generally 'tougher' in the UK than in the US, though I'll be reluctant to suggest that the overall standard of academics in UK universities is higher than that of the US... This will always be a moot point.
