According to The Guardian, former coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Winfried Schafer, will be the next coach of the Super Eagles.

The Nigerian newspaper reported that 74-year-old Schafer, who led Cameroon to win the 2002 AFCON, is due to arrive in the country soon to conclude his appointment.

The much-traveled German coach was considered after compatriot Bruno Labbadia walked out on the Super Eagles recently.
He has coached Jamaica, Thailand and his last coaching post was in November 2021, when he ensured the safety of Qatari club Al-Khor.

NFF technical director Augustine Eguavoen took temporary charge of the Super Eagles for this month’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

The Super Eagles will continue their AFCON qualifying campaign next month with a double header against Libya.

Nigeria will host the first game, before the two teams clash again in Tripoli days later.
