we as Nigerians we nee d to learn how to tolerate each other by watching what is coming out of our mouth because religion issues is a very sensitive one, despite the fact that some group of people are behaving cowardly doesnt mean that all muslims and islam as a religion is evil, let stop condemning one another then we can have peace. The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga, on Monday said the monthly allowance of corps members had been increased from N9,775 to N19,800 with effect from March 2011.



Tsiga told newsmen in Abuja that the hike was conveyed in a letter from the Presidency to the Office of the NYSC DG and sent to all state coordinators of the NYSC.



Tsiga said, ”I am delighted to inform you that The President and Commander-in- Chief, Goodluck Jonathan, has graciously approved increment in the corps members allowances from N9,775.00 to N19,800.00 with effect from March, 2011.



”The payment will take effect from March, 2011 and the 2010 Batch ‘B’ Corps members that have just passed out from the scheme will, therefore, be paid in arrears.




”They are serving their fatherland, we are posting them to states outside their state of origin. Nobody gives them anything except the allowances and it has been stipulated in the law establishing the NYSC that the Federal, States, Local Government and other stakeholders should periodically review the allowances of the corps members,” he said.



He called on states and local governments to emulate the gesture of the Federal Government and improve on the allowances, accommodation and other welfare of the corps members.



He added, ”The future of the country are in their hands.”

Several vehicles were said to have been vandalised in the incident that left eight persons, including an infant in critical conditions.

Our correspondent learnt that trouble started when the PDP members, who were returning from Iseyin, where they earlier had a rally, met the CPC members, who were on their way to Ebedi Primary School for their rally.

A source identified one of the deceased as Amuda Gafar from Agbobamu Compund, Ekunle, Iseyin.

The source identified one Rilwan Okunlola as one of those on danger list in an undisclosed hospital.

Those receiving treatment were said to have sustained either bullet or machete wounds.

The CPC members were said to be in the convoy of the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Iseyin Federal Constituency, Mr. Olasupo Abiodun, when the incident occurred.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Bolanta, confirmed that there was a clash and that vehicles were vandalised.

But he denied knowledge of any death in the encounter.
