He could have just floated his own party where he would not need to contest with anybody to get the ticket (just as he has been doing) and see where that leads him.

On a serious note, in most countries of the world, it is almost impossible to win a presidential election if you are not from any of the 'big' parties, especially countries with large populations. As popular as Trump is, he dare not contest election as an independent candidate (he would lose woefully) so he still had to bully and buy his way into becoming the GOP candidate.

Another fun fact, you cannot win the primaries of any big political party anywhere in the world without spending money, I mean huge money. If you hear the billions Elon Musk and the like spent on Trump's candidacy you go wan faint. You call it bribe there they call it lobbying here.

Bottom line, you want to be the president of a big country, you need a big political party with national spread to achieve that. And to be the flag bearer of that big political party you need to spend good money. Anything outside that, you only have 1 or 2% chance of realizing your dream .

Well said I agree totally to your stand but I have a question to ask after spending huge sum of money for lobbying how do the said politician intend to recover back his money cus I know you can't just throw away money just like that without having the intentions to recover it back the way Tinubu is recovering his own now or what do you think.
