Now Buhari is in power and the same set of people who saw him then as a saint now tells the entire world that he is Lucifer and the 'kick him out' motto is now a melody.

Nigerians are a confused set of people! They live at the whims and caprices of the ruling elite. They are like scaler quantities that lack a sense of direction; a lost sheep that follows the first trail it finds.

Will Nigeria see any meaningful change in this chaotic and disillusioned kind of decision making! Truly, not all who wander are lost but Nigerians are wanderers and they are lost.

We cannot see beyond our noses because we expect all gold to glitter but suffice it to say, all that is gold, does not glitter. Our inability to look beyond the present and make a holistic decision as it affects our future is our bane.

Our future is bleak. We do not know how it began and we do not know how it ends. Whether our future is predetermined or whether it would be of our making is still uncertain. But one thing is certain, the future is predetermined by the character of those who shape it.

I sometimes see large congregations of able bodied young men of northern extraction looking for menial jobs like farm work, clearing, block moulding, service for bricklayer, etc. Their number can run into hundreds in the morning and their are several pockets of such gatherings around the state.

Now, there is work opportunity in a beer manufacturing company that these guys can get engaged with but someone who shares similar faith with them (but works in this company) said they won't like to do the job cos it's against Muslim teachings.

I asked why is it that he doesn't mind doing the job despite being a Muslim. He said he's okay with the work as long as he doesn't drink the alcohol and as long as he doesn't pray in his work clothes.

His argument seems logical but I'd like to know if this is enough reason to convince a Muslim to work in such environment. Your contributions are welcome.

It is haraam to drink alcohol or to sell it, carry it or help with it in any way whatsoever, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling, and Al‑Ansaab (stone altars for sacrifices to idols etc), and Al‑Azlaam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaytaan’s (Satan’s) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful” [al-Maa’idah 5:90]

Abu Dawood (3674) and Ibn Maajah (3380) narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has cursed alcohol, the one who drinks it, the one who pours it, the one who sells it, the one who buys it, the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who carries it and the one to whom it is carried.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Al-Tirmidhi (1295) narrated that Anas ibn Maalik said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed ten with regard to alcohol: the one who squeezes (the grapes etc), the one for whom it is squeezed, the one who drinks it, the one who carries it, the one to whom it is carried, the one who pours it, the one who sells it and consumes its price, the one who buys it and the one for whom it is bought.”


It was narrated from Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has made a covenant to those who drink alcohol, that He will make them drink teenat al-khabaal.” They said, “O Messenger of Allaah, what is teenat al-khabaal?” He said, “The sweat of the people of Hell,” or, “The juice of the people of Hell.” Narrated by Muslim, (3732).

May Allaah help us all to do that which He loves and which pleases Him.
