stillstrong: Three things I learnt about the Eggon people:

1. They're hardworking people, tilling and cultivating their farmlands as a major means of livelihood & for commercial purposes.

2. They're very receptive to strangers (expecially Corp Members). "Corpers" were treated like kings and queens.

3. Honesty. During my stay there, most market traders leave their goods (mostly food items like yams, maize etc) in the market without securing away from thieves. I was told by an indigene friend that stealing was rare. In fact any one caught in the act was given severe punishment or ostracised.
I actually plan on visiting again for old times' sake and probably to explore business opportunities- trading in farm produce.

The question is, why were the security forces silent when the Jihadist were on the killing spree in all the Eggon Villages? They are so many questions to be asked and answered here. Nassarawa State Governor was silent over the killings of Eggon people in their own land while nothing was said about the Fulani Jihadist that were killing Christian accross Nassarawa and Benue. I believed that if investigation is properly carried out, it will revealed that the scores of Security operatives killed were entirely Hausa/Fulani people doing the bidding of the State Governor against the Majority tribe of the state which are the Eggon people. This is a complete conspiracy against the peace loving Eggons. The Eggons are prepared to take back their State from the Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri minorities in the state.

Following renewed clashes involving
Eggon and Fulani communities in
Nasarawa State which have claimed
about 10 lives with many others
wounded, the Nasarawa State
government has been accused of
harbouring Fulani insurgents in
different parts of the state in the
guise of resettling refugees from
crisis areas in Taraba State.
Mr. Zachari Alumaga, the legal
adviser of Ombatse, who made this
accusation while speaking to
newsmen in Lafia yesterday
expressed concern that less than two
months after their arrival, the
refugees had been given permanent
settlement and one of theirs
appointed ward head in each of the
settlements.
Mr. Alumaga, who said some of the
settlements are found in Agyaragu
Tofa, between Danka and Kwandere,
and Shabu, noted that instead of
working out modalities to see how
the refugees would be escorted back
to their ancestral homes, Nasarawa
State government had permanently
resettled them with a promise to
ensure they register as voters to
enable them exercise their franchise
in the forthcoming general polls.
The Ombatse legal adviser also
called for caution in the ongoing
stand-off between Eggon and Fulani
communities in the state, saying
most of the reported casualty figures
are mere rumours that cannot be
substantiated. He called on both
parties to sheathe their swords even
as he wondered why the state
government was keeping sealed lips
on the matter since it started about a
week ago.
He said contrary to large casualty
figures being churned by media
reports, only two Eggon youths have
been confirmed killed around Assakio
in Lafia East development area.

Nasarawa state
Over 30 persons were said have
been killed as crisis between
Fulani herdsmen and the people of
Eggon at Alingani in Assakio, the
headquarters of Lafia East
development area continued
yesterday.
An eyewitness account revealed
that the Fulani mercenaries
wielding sophisticated weapons,
attacked the Eggon settlements of
Gidan Gambo, Logobi at Assakio
and Ikposogye, killing over 30
person and razing down several
houses.
Crises broke out at Alingani
following a confrontation between
a Fulani herder whose flock grazed
over an Eggon farm.
The development led to a clash
between the Fulani herdsmen and
the Eggon farmers who chased the
herders away.The herdsmen later
regrouped and attack the Eggon
settlement, leading to several loss
of lives.
Several Nasarawa settlements were
attacked especially Eggon
settlements of Gidan Gambo and
Logobi. Trouble however escalated
yesterday morning when two Fulani
herdsmen were allegedly killed by
Eggon at Agyaragu Tofa on the
outskirts of Lafia, the state capital.
Confirming the incident on phone,
the Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), Nasarawa State Police
Command, Ismaila Numan, stated
that policemen had already
restored nomalcy to the area.
At the time of filing this report,
ViewPointNigeria can confirm that
several Fulani people had left their
abodes in Nasarawa state and
were thronging into Namu town in
Plateau state for refuge. Several
residents in Namu are said to
already be raising alarm at this
development, citing previous
experiences where they end up
being attacked after being
hospitable.
