On a toyota car, the VVT-i on the engine simply means (VARIABLE VALVE TIMING WITH INTELLIGENCE). This is a system that optimizes engine performance, fuel efficiency and emission by adjusting the timing of bith the intake and exhaust valve.
It uses an actuator to alter how the valves open and close to match engine speed and loads. This helps to increase engine performance.

The VVT stands for the following;
1. Varying Valve Timing:
The core functions of the VVT-I is to change the timing of the intake and exhaust valves.
2. Intelligence:
The 'i' in VVT-I signifies the use of a microprocessor to control the system,allowing for intelligent,real time adjustment.
