FADAMA Render 5916 Nigerian Graduates Jobless for 13 Months
Our attention was called to the FADAMA GUYS Programme which was initiated May, 2017 by World Bank through FADAMA III AF.

The programme which was meant to empower Nigerian youths to participate in agriculture and to enhance the diversification project of PMB administration.

According to our interview with one of the national Representative of the FADAMA GUYS beneficiaries (Adam Jigawa State).
He said the program which was meant to make them self-employed in various agricultural enterprise have turned out the negative side to render them jobless for over 13months due to worrisome delay of the fund disbursement by FADAMA & Ministry of Finance through the Nigeria federal ministry of agriculture and rural development (FMARD).

According to a statements released on FMARD Website on July 19, 2018.
It was stated that Intensive training has been organized for 5,916 successful candidates from 23 participating states that emerged through an open but keen competition, while provision of starter packs is undergoing processing.

However, this starter pack which was a grant of 1.9million to each participant have been delayed for 13months since the completion of their training.It was confirmed that the beneficiaries have concluded all requirements including;
Training, approval of business plan, submission of land lease / shop rent receipt (as applicable to each enterprise), signing of legal grant documents via notary public and opening of bank accounts in commercial banks.

Furthermore, the participants made it clear that having borrowed from friends and family to pay for rented shops / farm land since June 2017, they have not been able to take up a meaningful job since it will be a breach of agreement by them according to the documents they signed with FADAMA which says beneficiaries should not be employed in any other job during the course of the project.

The participants also stated that they have tried all formal means to reach out to all stakeholders including World Bank, FADAMA, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, all the 23 participating states Governors and agric Commissioners but there have not being a positive response as expected.
