Known for its superlative and electrifying movie production since its foray into the Nigerian domain, streaming giant, Prime Video is on your match again as it launches a new movie “Water and Garri,” exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide yesterday , Friday May 10, 2024. The premiere of the movie held at the Livespot in Lekki, Lagos paraded the cast of the move and the lead character and award winning afrobeat sensation, Tiwa Savage. The must watch movie also featured Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, Jemima Osunde. Throwing more light about the inspiration behind the movie, Tiwa Savage said.she wants to inspire people with her debut Garri and Water movie to try their hands at different things and execute them excellently. Savage revealed she always dreamt of being an actor and referred to film and acting as “always been my first love.” The Singer-Songwriter, at a Thursday press conference for the movie, said she wants to encourage different talents to not have to stick to one thing. You can do more than one thing and execute it excellently,” she said. The executive producer, Vanessa Ogbonna also shared Savage’s thoughts on excellence as she pointed to the power of the women characters to navigate life as the most fascinating part of the movie for her. The Water and Garri director, Meji Alabi and Savage, who played Aisha; an ‘I-just-got-back’ ambitious fashion designer, addressed the antithesis of the movie which seems to pop up right from the title.

The Cultural Day event will formally kick off the series of activities preceding the Award Night on Saturday, May 11. Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice West Africa, expressed her excitement about the upcoming event, stating that the award ceremony has enjoyed immense growth and recognition since its inception in 2013. “The 10th edition of the AMVCA represents a significant milestone in our journey to celebrate African talent and creativity. This year’s edition celebrates a decade of excellence in African cinema and television. As we prepare to mark this momentous occasion, we look forward to honouring the incredible contributions of filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals who continue to inspire and entertain audiences across the continent and beyond.” The 10th AMVCA will see winners emerge from 25 categories comprising 16 non-voting, 9 audience voting categories, and recipients of 2 recognition awards – Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. Sponsored categories include Best Lead Actor and Actress categories, sponsored by Verve and Quickteller respectively, the Best Movie, Best Digital Content Creator, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Originals categories sponsored by Amstel Malta, and the Best Director category sponsored by Martell.
