Security forces targeted by massive blast claimed by armed group al-Shabab in Somalia's capital.

A massive car bomb exploded on Saturday near Somalia's parliament in the capital Mogadishu, security sources have told Al Jazeera.
The loud blast, which targeted Somali security forces near Mogadishu's Sayidka junction, was claimed by the armed group al-Shabab.
It was unclear whether there were any casualties, but a police official said it was likely a suicide attack.


"A car bomb exploded near the area of the parliament house," Colonel Abdiqadir Hussein told Reuters news agency.
"We suspect it is a suicide car bomb."
Al-Shabab was pushed out of Mogadishu by the African Union peacekeeping force AMISOM in 2011 but has remained a potent threat in Somalia, launching frequent attacks aimed at overthrowing the Western-backed government.

There is a common myth that you can tell if a woman is a virgin, by whether or not she bleeds the first time she has sex.
This has been found to be untrue as not all women bleed the first time they have sex. There are different reasons for this and chief among them is that not all women have hymen – the membrane that tends to cover part of the vaginal opening and supposedly breaks, leading to bleeding on a lady’s first sexual encounter.
Second, just as women have different heights and weights and features, all women also have different amounts and types of hymen.
Some women have thick hymens that would really bleed when torn, some have very thin hymens that may tear with as little an exertion as bicycling, and some others naturally have a very little amount of hymen that covers only a small portion of their vaginal opening that may not really get in the way during first-time sex. It has also been found that some hymen wear away on its own as a girl grows up.
Some with exercise such as bicycling, horseback riding and any other physical activity, even dancing or the use of tampons when menstruating.
This happens more to those with thin hymen. These go a long way to show that if a woman is born without a hymen, she won’t bleed the first time she has sex. If a woman has a small or thin hymen, she might not bleed the first time she has sex.
If a woman’s hymen has worn away on its own (which is very common as girls grow up), she won’t bleed the first time she has sex. The result is that the overwhelming majority – at least 63% of women – will NOT bleed the first time they have sex, says a study published by the British Medical Journal.
Women who do bleed include: women with thick hymens (who constitute a small percentage of the population); younger girls, because the hymen wears away on its own with time, a 16-year old has a higher chance of bleeding than a 25-year old.
However, even a young girl may not bleed the first-time sex if she has a thin hymen and is physically active, or have no hymen at all. Most often, women who bleed tend to be those who are dealt with roughly during sex.
If the man forces himself inside the girl, when she isn’t ready, relaxed or aroused enough, he is likely to cause injury or bleeding. Because most people think it’s normal for women to bleed the first time they have sex, they don’t realize that this bleeding is a result of the woman having been hurt, and not of the hymen ‘breaking.’
Painful first-time sex is generally because the woman is not relaxed or aroused enough, and gets hurt as a result; it is rarely ever because of the hymen breaking.
The bottom line is that there is no way to assess female virginity. Bleeding does not have anything to do with virginity – it has to do with the kind of hymen a girl has. The result is that only a small percentage of women bleed the first time!
Only 37% bleed during first-time sex, according to the study. Women all over the world get abused, injured and even killed due to the myth of ‘virgin bleeding.’
Because most people (men and women) think that bleeding is a sign of virginity, women who don’t bleed the first time have been divorced, suffered from suspicion leading to domestic violence and abuse, and even killed for honour. Educating people that a girl does not necessarily have to bleed the first time she has sex is important because it can literally save lives.

In order to check rising global hepatitis, scientists have found a link between the consumption of
energy drink and acute hepatitis. This is the findings of the study, ‘Rare cause of acute hepatitis: a common energy drink’ published in the BMJ of November 2, 2016. In the research, Jennifer Nicole Harb, M.D., from the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville and colleagues described the case of a 50-year-old previously healthy man who presented with malaise, anorexia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, scleral icterus, and dark urine.
The patient had reported drinking four to five energy drinks per day for the three weeks preceding admission. Other doctors from the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, who participated in the study are Zachary A Taylor, Vikas Khullar and Maryam Sattari.
The Health Day reported that the researchers identified jaundice and right upper quadrant abdominal tenderness on physical examination. Laboratory studies showed transaminitis and evidence of chronic hepatitis C infection. Echogenic liver and diffuse gallbladder wall thickening were revealed in ultrasound scan. “In liver biopsy, severe acute hepatitis was seen with bridging necrosis and marked cholestasis. Supportive treatment was provided until complete symptom resolution and marked improvement in laboratory abnormalities occurred.
“The development of acute hepatitis in this patient was likely secondary to excessive energy drink consumption,” the authors wrote. “Energy drinks as well as other herbal/overthe- counter supplements should be considered by clinicians in the work-up of patients with acute hepatitis, particularly once other etiologies have been excluded.”
A summary of the study obtained by our reporter yesterday reads: “A previously healthy man aged 50 years presented with malaise, anorexia, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, generalised jaundice, scleral icterus and dark urine. He was not on any prescription or over-thecounter medications, but reported drinking four to five energy drinks daily for three weeks prior to presentation. “Physical examination revealed jaundice and right upper quadrant abdominal tenderness.”

Your Smartphone Can Now Be Used to Detect Cancer


A group of scientists from Washington State University have come up with a rig consisting of a smartphone, a prism and an ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) plate to detect cancer with up to 99% accuracy in a controlled lab environment. With the high purity agents that was used, the scientists were able to detect interleukin-6 (IL-6), a cancer biomarker.
Although it’s not the first spectrometer to use a smartphone for detection, it’s ability to process several samples at once makes it ideal for medical practitioners who need a fast and easy way to perform a diagnose with standard medical facilities. According to lead researcher Lei Li:
“ The spectrometer would be especially useful in clinics and hospitals that have a large number of samples without on-site labs, or for doctors who practice abroad or in remote areas.
How it works
The whole setup consists of just a backlit ELISA assaying plate with 96 wells, a “microprism array,” and a 3D-printed cradle which holds the smartphone.
The sample taken from a patient is put on the assay plate. When the backlight is shone from the plate through the sample, it passes through the microprism, then through a custom-made “diffraction grating” to the phone camera. An app on the smartphone then gIves the result by analyzing the light from each individual well in the ELISA plate. The colors that turns up reveal the result of the ELISA test.
This is all based on the fact that IL-6, a protein produced by the body, is always present in large quantity in the body when the immune system is alerted. It should be noted that Interleukin-6 is present even when there’s no cancer present in the body. It is present normally in the body at low quantity, it has also been linked to depression and mood disorders.
Still, this can be used to comfirm cases where patients have already developed symptoms of cancer.

Apple Announces Latest MacBook Pro 2016 With Touch Bar


It has been four long years since Apple actually gave the MacBook Pro a major facelift, but the company unveiled something new yesterday. The latest iteration of the MacBook Pro is thinner, lighter and a lot more powerful than the last one and a lot of users are excited.
The new MacBook Pro comes with features not found before on previous ones; these include a new Touch Bar and Touch ID authentication.
The biggest feature of the new MacBook Pro is the Touch Bar that changes replaces the regular function keys. It’s has a Retina display and available touch keys change based on the application you are using. Apple demonstrated this with several programs like Office, Photoshop and Pixelmator.
If you’re browsing photos, swiping the Touch Bar navigates between images. Developers can customize the experience and program what to appear in the Touch Bar while building apps for Mac OS.
The Touch Bar also supports Touch ID. This technology which is present in the iPhone and iPad secures the new MacBook with fingerprint and also lets you make payments via Apple Pay.
The rumor published earlier this month turns out to be true. It doesn’t come with the traditional USB port found on all laptops. As a matter of of fact, you need an adapter to be able to charge your iPhone through USB. MacBook Pro now comes with 3-4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. Old chargers won’t work anymore as Apple has also gotten rid of MagSafe. However, you still have the earphone jack.
