Lithiumite: Have you read the latest report on nigeria's daily fuel consumption.......it states we consume about 50m liters of fuel daily both locally produced and imported........do the math on how much subsidy govt would have been paying daily with the current cost at 1,350.
How much will prices come down to,will atiku bring it back to the pre tinubu rates of 250 naira a liter, that means he will be paying nothing less than 1k per liter in subsidy, kindly multiply that by 50m liters daily.......any subsidy regime that will come to the consumer higher than 500 to 600 naira makes no sense and even at that, atiku will still have to be forking out 650 naira on every liter.......do the math, where atiku wan see that kind money pay?
Instead of direct pms subsidy, why not push for policy advocacy that govt should rather make efficient and cheap transportation available.........lagos state for instance should provide more CNG mass transit busses at subsidised rates, about half the cost the masses are currently spending on transport.......also food trucks from the north can be subsidised by providing subsidised diesel or free diesel for them with tracking devices attached to monitor their movements also the multiple state levies they pay should be abolished or reduced.
Govt should provide standard public schools that will be affordable, they can serve as alternatives to the expensive private schools all over the place, this will make households able to save money they would have spent sending their children to private schools.
Health care, child and maternal health should be made free and a health scheme that is efficient and affordable, health insurance should be more accessible and our PHCs be better improved to provide cheaper health care to the masses.
The challenge is many of this things we mentioned falls within the purview of the state govs who should be compelled by the citizens to do more,if you are get cheap subsidised transport to work, your kids are attending cheap public schools, your wife and child can get affordable health care and food arrives at the market cheaper...... the govt would have done a lot to ameliorate the suffering of the people amd will have a far better effect then the burdensome pms subsidy regime and can be effectively tracked and assessed.
Any arguement in support of subsidy return is always emotional than rational
mindtricks: That fact refuses to go away, Obi was rigged out. Just like MKO who won but wasn't given the chance. Many will keep calling the man in Aso Rock an illegitimate president, even after 2031.
Awolowo,Zik,buhari,Atiku,Olu falaiye, sowore etc all believed they were rigged out in all their contests.Dont make peter OBI own as big feal.
The only victory that was confirmed and unanimously agreed was MKO's 1993 own!
Omoluabi16: Sighs.. Peter obi better gets his acts together and start the real politicking. This gatherings of 30,50 people shouting your name doesn't mean s***
Something that Igbo lawyers planned in their whatsapp group
Like "NNA!,Peter OBI is coming for NBA conference on xyx death, immediately he enters lets start shouting OBI! OBI"
treesun: Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has said the promise by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to restore fuel subsidy is a “political Trojan horse” aimed at winning the 2027 presidential election.
Recounting that Atiku had supported the removal of fuel subsidy in the past, Sani said the ADC presidential candidate’s pledge was impracticable.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja, Sani insisted that Atiku’s pledge is a way of deceiving Nigerians.
He said, “What he is saying is outright deception of Nigerians.”
The former lawmaker noted that Atiku had, throughout his political history and campaigns, supported the removal of subsidy.
“As someone who has always subscribed to Bretton Woods Institutions neoliberal economic policies, someone who believes in World Bank and IMF prescriptions, devaluation of currency, privatisation of public enterprises and all sorts of capitalist bourgeoisie economic policies, and someone who has, throughout his political history and campaigns, stood for the removal of subsidy, for someone now to make a reversal simply because he needs votes, there is a need for Nigerians to seriously not take what he has said at face value,” Sani said.
He maintained that returning subsidy would be difficult because Nigeria spent trillions of naira subsidising petroleum products in the past.
“For a number of reasons, what he said is virtually impracticable,” he said.
“We have also seen how beneficiaries of subsidies use this mantra of subsidy to defraud our country. Many of them have cases in court where hundreds of billions of naira were looted and diverted from the national treasury in the name of importing petroleum products under the subsidy regime.
“I know very well that the removal of subsidy is causing a lot of hardship and economic suffering in the lives of our people, and it has been one policy that has created bad blood between ordinary Nigerians and this administration,” he said.
Samogloby: A good leader will backtrack on unpopular policies and introduce the new policies when it turnout that it's not serving the purpose it was introduced.
Even when some of the purpose needs a long term manifestation? Subsidy removal had many purposes. Some are long term while some are shorterm. Some of the short term purposes have been achieved already which include the growth of foreign reserve from 3billion dollars to 50 billion dollars and increased in overall FAAC revenue. How the FG and states spend the revenue is another discussion entirely.
Some of the long term benefit is to unbundle the investiment in the oil and gas sector and it has started manifesting too with the thriving of dangote refinery.Do you think Dangote refinery will thrive in a price-capped environment? Success of dangote refinery will send a good signal for more FDI to come, one of them is the Shell plan to return to the country.
Remove the hatred for Tinubu and APC and take an insight
Gotocourt: Same too with Emilokan, abi you know no.
Same for Peter OBI
All of them
Peter OBI that claimed subsidy will not stay a day longer made a you turn and started saying he would remove it in a systematic organized manner..whatever that means
He will soon come out and claim he would return it too out of despiration.
Above all,I am so happy that that Nigeria presidential campaign is now issue based like that of the USA,All thanks to BOLA TINUBU boldness.
Nigerian presidential election campaigns will never remain the same again!
Several Nigerians have commented on the appointment of Zacch Adedeji, the NRS Chairman as part of Tinubu’s presidential campaign council.
Being the chief Tax collector in Nigeria, Nigerians have expressed displeasure especially because of his role as the NRS Chairman at a time when people are complaining about too many taxes.
Many are asking if it is constitutional for him to accept to be part of the fund raising committee of the campaign council.
When will they query the appointment of the president as the chairman of the campaign Council
hegelian: Because tinubu mad his likes mobilized the whole country against him..nobody mobilized against tinububbecasue they knew he was doing the right thing and decided not to play politics with the future of the country like he tinubu and others like him did in 2012.. A true leader should always stand with the people no matter what and look for other things to play politics with.. And citizens our loyalty should be to the country not to an individual
You people actually mobilized against Tinubut but you were not just successful...simple!
ruggedtimi: Personally i think he wasnt into drugs..But more like a money launder or Picker. According to the write up above He had an account in chicago as a student and they used it to launder money. It doesnt necessary mean he was directly involved in the drug business.
AMINDA: You wanted him to split votes so Ambo could win, right? He was smarter than all of you. Not everyone will be a coward and kowtow to Tinubu in perpetuity. Aregbesola may not have won but he didn't lose either. The losers are those too cowardly to follow their conviction and would rather sing the mandate song like serfs. 100 billion expended on votes buying and 29 lives lost. Yet, you are fixated on Aregbesola.
AMINDA: The mood in Osun right now is that of betrayal and disappointment. The people are disappointed with Governor Adeleke for his romance with Tinubu and Wike after coming out in their numbers against the federal might and despite the recorded deaths and the insult on them by Wike. The APC supporters in the state are also feeling betrayed by Tinubu for throwing them under the bus.
Awillologo: The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state on his victory in the just concluded governorship election in the state.Nigerian election coverage
Obi says the people of the state have demonstrated the power of citizens to determine their leaders through the ballot.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday following the announcement of the election results, Obi described the outcome as an “important democratic victory” and said the people of Osun had “spoken with courage and clarity.”
According to him, Adeleke earned the renewed confidence of the electorate through his commitment to the people, compassion for their needs and achievements recorded during his first term.
“I warmly congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and the good people of Osun State on this important democratic victory.
“They have spoken with courage and clarity, reaffirming that the power to choose their leaders belongs to the people,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor particularly commended youths in Osun State for what he described as their courageous and peaceful defence of their democratic mandate.
He said their vigilance and determination showed that citizens could overcome attempts to undermine their votes when they remained committed to protecting the democratic process.
“The lesson from Osun is clear: democracy is strongest when citizens are alert, conscious of their civic responsibility, and determined to ensure that their votes count,” he said.
Obi also used the development to make a broader appeal ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to remain informed, participate actively in elections, vote and protect their votes.Ordering Custom Wall Maps
He said Nigerians experiencing hunger, deprivation, insecurity and hardship possessed the power, through their votes, to bring about the change they desired.
“The Nigerian people are the ones experiencing hunger, deprivation, insecurity, and hardship; therefore, they are also the ones with the power, through their votes, to bring about the change that will end these conditions,” he added.
Obi further called on political actors to put the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations and embrace peace, unity and the rule of law.
He stressed that elections should be contests of ideas, competence, character and service rather than battles marked by violence.
A day before the Saturday’s election, Obi had charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to ensure a credible and peaceful electoral process.
In his message, he urged INEC to ensure that the votes of Osun residents were transparently counted, protected and announced in accordance with the genuine will of the electorate.
He also appealed to political actors and their supporters within and outside the state to exercise restraint and avoid actions capable of provoking violence.
“Do not allow politicians to turn your neighbours, friends, and communities against each other. Do not destroy your state in the name of winning an election. Nigeria is bigger than any candidate, and Osun is greater than any political party,” he had said.
Obi equally urged security agencies to remain loyal to Nigeria and the Constitution, insisting that their responsibility was to protect every voter equally.
He called on INEC to safeguard the credibility of the election from accreditation and voting through collation and declaration, while urging international observers and diplomatic missions to closely monitor the process.
“Let every vote count. Let every voter be protected. Let every legitimate result be respected. And above all, let peace reign in Osun State,” Obi had said.
franchasng: Tinubu that ought to have lived a good and exemplary life as a gratitude to God that lifted him from the dungeon to the palace, he rather chose to live his life this way, it's pathetic. He will only be remembered for tribalism, divisive politics, corruption, forgery, godfatherism, thuggery and all manner of bad things, ire oh
