Toks2008: I really dont know what to write again.
My question still remains.."IS POLYGAMY A SIN"
Yes we all know that judging from the model of marriage as quoted from the scriptures, singular use of the word man and woman suggests the model of marriage but then we need to understand that somethings may not be ideal but could be permitted and ofcourse may not be a sin.
Question: "Why did God allow polygamy / bigamy in the Bible?"
Answer: The question of polygamy is an interesting one in that most people today view polygamy as immoral while the Bible nowhere explicitly condemns it. The first instance of polygamy/bigamy in the Bible was that of Lamech in Genesis 4:19: “Lamech married two women.” Several prominent men in the Old Testament were polygamists. Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and others all had multiple wives. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines (essentially wives of a lower status), according to 1 Kings 11:3. What are we to do with these instances of polygamy in the Old Testament? There are three questions that need to be answered: Why did God allow polygamy in the Old Testament?
Why did God allow polygamy in the Old Testament? The Bible does not specifically say why God allowed polygamy. As we speculate about God’s silence, there are a few key factors to consider. First, while there are slightly more male babies than female babies, due to women having longer lifespans, there have always been more women in the world than men. Current statistics show that approximately 50.5 percent of the world population are women. Assuming the same percentages in ancient times, and multiplied by millions of people, there would be tens of thousands more women than men. Second, warfare in ancient times was especially brutal, with an incredibly high rate of fatality. This would have resulted in an even greater percentage of women to men. Third, due to patriarchal societies, it was nearly impossible for an unmarried woman to provide for herself. Women were often uneducated and untrained. Women relied on their fathers, brothers, and husbands for provision and protection. Unmarried women were often subjected to prostitution and slavery. The significant difference between the number of women and men would have left many, many women in an undesirable situation.
So, it seems that God may have allowed polygamy to protect and provide for the women who could not find a husband otherwise. A man would take multiple wives and serve as the provider and protector of all of them. While definitely not ideal, living in a polygamist household was far better than the alternatives: prostitution, slavery, or starvation. In addition to the protection/provision factor, polygamy enabled a much faster expansion of humanity, fulfilling God’s command to “be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth” (Genesis 9:7). Men are capable of impregnating multiple women in the same time period, causing humanity to grow much faster than if each man was only producing one child each year.
So my point is clear..polygamy or monogamy are simply two options and any man could settle for either one. Polygamy may not be the best choice and may not be the ideal model of marriage..BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT A SIN AND OF-COURSE SHOULD NEVER A REASON FOR A WOMAN TO LEAVE HER HUSBAND.this is my point bro.
Have a great week ahead. You asked if the Bible condemned polygamy, I quoted a portion of the Bible that clearly condemned it in the New Testament. If it wasn't a sin, would the Apostle Paul condemn it? If Paul says every woman should have "her own" husband, would it make any sense if two women share the same man? Did Paul really have to say it's a sin before we know it's a sin? Jesus said thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Did Jesus really have to say don't hate your neighbor before we know hating another is a sin? I think Paul was very clear, he wouldn't condemn it if it wasn't a sin. On the Old Testament argument and the mind of God, God accepted stoning an adulterer in the old testament, why doesn't he accept it Under the New covenant? Why don't you quote a passage under the new covenant supporting polygamy? 'Cause all I see are old testament laws that have been done away with. |

Toks2008: You are still using phylosophy and that is heresy on its own.
Apparently at any point in time when you make the marital vow,you are joining to a woman so that verse is perfectly OK.
Marrying many wives was never condemned in the bible so enough of this foolish heresy flying about...
The devil has used this one man one woman heresy to destroy many marriages and I just shake my head in disbelief even when pastors preach about this on the alter.
I can't cope with polygamy cos of its complexity and I won't advise any man to go into it blindly but if you can handle it please go on with peace of mind.
Is it not crazy that many men stick to one wife yet philandering about?
I will never in my life sleep around when I marry but wait for this.....if at anytime I feel the need to be with another lady,I will gladly go get married to the lady of my choice, rent a house for her somewhere and be happy with myself.
Enough of this unfounded lies from the pit of hell that polygamy is a sin.
If people see 1st Timothy 3:2 as a commandment so be it but we all are not bishops or general overseers.
As far as I'm concerned, adultery is a sin but polygamy was never condemned in the bible. Ist Corinthians 7:2- Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. If every woman is to have "her own" husband I don't see how the man would be "her own" when he introduces another woman into the picture. So yes, the Bible clearly condemns polygamy. |

Bigboyz32: I really don't get your question. I think you should stop replying these guys who want free food. There are tons of threads on/off nairaland on how to make it on fiverr but the info contained is scattered so only someone who's serious can look through everything and get the ideas that work. What your book does is save them the time they would have spent scanning through threads because you'd be dishing out first hand what worked for you. People don't understand that you're also busy trying to increase and diversify your income so there's really no time to teach everyone for free even if you wanted to. I write for a few blogs online so I know it just doesn't make sense spending the time I would have spent learning new things or writing on free seminars. Just stop explaining to the freebie mongers, they'd never understand. |
