Good morning nairalanders, you can now plant plantain first on you intend cocoa field, as to service as shield for your young seedlings when transplanted on the field

Plantain and Banana are staple crops grown throughout the tropics. In Africa, plantain and Banana are also an important source of carbohydrate in the diet of more than 70 million people. Plantain and Banana are also an important source of revenue for farmers who produce the crops in small-scale field plantations and Backyards. Backyard soil is very rich in organic matter and nutrients from household refuse which is dumped there. Such gar-dens are permanently in use for plantains which grow there luxuriantly, become very large and produce heavy bunches. They grow in groups or clusters as each bearing plant produces many suckers which are not pruned out. Human activity is limited to manuring, propping and harvesting

Hello fellow farmers,I want to know what to do when some of my plantain crops are tipping off,I mean breaking from the neck. Most especially, those ones with fruits. Though,the rain as not fully started,some of the crops leaves have dried due to dry season. I have applied insecticides and fertilizer. Please, kindly advise

Your plantain is lacking water, and the weight can no longer carried the fruit that is why your plantain is breaking from the neck, you can support your plantain with bracing, that is only what you can do for now
