Proactive move! I hope the people of Ohaji, Imo State, where the last clash happened pressure their government to follow suit. |
Posted on 05/08/2011 by Prince Charles Oforkaja Share In a bid to check future clashes between indigenous farmers and herdsmen, the Enugu State Government has announced it’s intention of creating grazing reservations for herdsmen coming to graze their livestock in the state. This announcement was made by the Enugu State Commissioner of Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Enugu. The State’s Farmer/Pasturalist Peace Commission has been mandated to establish these grazing reserves. Experts hope that this novel approach will be copied by other states, and minimise the clashes between indigenous farmers and herdsmen in the states. © igbodefender.com 2011 http://igbodefender.com/2011/08/05/enugu-moves-to-prevent-farmerherdsmen-clashes/ |
@ Roland 17: Tokyo is overpopulated. So are many other world class cities. It is the quality that matters. Rather than over- burdening Lagos this proud Igbo man has chosen to attract tourists to Imo State. |
When the Al Marktoum family was building Dubai, people said they were throwing money down a hole. Now look at the sucess story that is Dubai. If you build it they will come. |
@ Jumobi1: According to the dude, hotels in Owerri are usually filled up during the weekends. See this link: http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/travels/2011/aug/04/Travel-04-08-2011-002.html Plus, he says it aint about the money, but about bringing tourism to the state. So, its a good investment, and another feather in the cap of Okorocha. |
http://igbodefender.com/2011/08/04/athan-achonu-builds-new-dubai-in-imo-state-says-we-have-funding-for-it%e2%80%9d/ Posted on 04/08/2011 by Prince Charles Oforkaja QUOTES OF PROPERTY DEVELOPER, CHIEF ATHAN ACHONU, DESCRIBING HIS MULTI- BILLION NGN HOTEL PROJECT IN OWERRI, IMO STATE: “I am going to put a mega-mall of international standard that will attract people from far and wide because Owerri needs something to attract people. We need something that is not in existence in the entire South East to be able to attract people. Look at the case of Dubai, when they started building Dubai, people scoffed, ‘who is going to come to the desert’? But, they built something that now attracts millions of people from all over the world. I am going to build the mega-mall and another hotel at the end facing the water. That is the plan, and we have funding for it”. INTERESTING FEATURES BEING CONSTRUCTED According to Solomon Younes of Hidson Engineering, who is Project Engineer at the site “the hotel consists of 130 standard rooms, 12 suites and two presidential suites located at the penthouse. According to Younes, the left wing of the main building will hold a Conference Hall of 800sq metres as well as a basement car park, casino, nightclub and restaurant, while the fourth floor will have the swimming pool. The outfit will also boast African and Continental restaurants as well as Jazz Bar. It is a five star hotel that will contain all facilities of any standard five star hotel in the world. Our finishing is going to be Alucopond. This is a new material made of aluminium; no painting, and requires practically no maintenance and it has its own extra values. We are going to provide every necessary infrastructure and adequate security in the hotel. We’ll run excellent… power generation plants; four in number and 1,000 KVA each, connected to a transformer exclusively meant for the hotel.” COMPLETION DATE According to Younes the completion period of the project is 15 months, precisely September, 2012. PHILANTHROPIC INVESTOR Chief Achonu described his attitude on citing the mega project in Owerri, instead of some bigger more developed Nigerian city in the following excerpts. “I don’t care, it is not about the returns, it is about developing Owerri. Owerri is where I come from: look at all my brothers who have left schools, no jobs, graduates all over the place; no employment opportunities. I come home frequently, and; when I look at people around me complaining of no job, no money, I feel so sad. I am comfortable and I can feed myself three times a day. But, how much really does one man like me need? How about other people, who do not have the opportunities given to me by God?” IGBODEFENDER.COM’S REACTION This reminds Igbodefender.com of the hotels in Las Vegas that are actually miniature cities- “Little Monacos” if you like. We wish Chief Achonu, and Governor Rochas Okorocha, the host governor success in this endeavour. Igbo kwenu! Okoracha is currently leading in the race for "Best Governor, 2011." |
http://igbodefender.com/2011/08/02/okorocha-uba-move-to-slash-kerosene-price/ Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and Capital Oil Chairman, Sir Ifeanyi Uba have initiated a partnership of their organisations, aimed at bringing the price of kerosene down to 50 NGN in Imos State. The plan will also see each family getting a ration of 25 litres. @ tipia Mud huts are good when they help preserve a peoples past, for future generations. That was the point of Eenri's visit to the US. |
@ Negro_ntns: The King Obidiegwu Onyeso was invited by American's to perform the ceremonies, based on the underlying Igbop presence in the United States. What is so "follow follow" about that. I don't think Igwe Onyeso was thinking of any competition when he inspected the buildings. This year is turning out to be a golden year for Ndigbo. From Rochas Okorocha, to Igbodefender.com to Pius Anyim- and now this Igbo Village. Are Igbos on a roll or what? |
Despite the unpredictable weather, yesterday’s royal dedication of the Igbo Farm Village, U.S went smoothly, with Eze Nri, Igwe Obidiegwu Onyeso waxing philosophical and nostalgic, about the simple, Igbo themed architecture of the village. It was moving, he said, to see traditional adobe and thatch buildings in Staunton. He noted that back in Nigeria, more and more people were building with brick and block. “It is bringing the past back for the future,” he said. Eze Nri had earlier on spoken of the diffulties faced by many Igbos, who were seized from their homes and taken into slavery, and of their glorious resistance to the evil. He also spoke of the ancient Igbo culture, which has lasted for many many centuries.” The Eze Nri, who was there in his capacity as a leading Igbo traditional ruler, stated that the farm village was of great significance, not only to Igbos in America, but also to Igbos in Nigeria. © igbodefender.com 2011 http://igbodefender.com/2011/07/31/eze-nri-admires-local-igbo-huts-in-u-s-farm-village/ |
Okorocha should seriously be considered for the Igbo slot of the presidency. |
This governor seems to be a listener, and such politicians are easily in tune with the people. |
This Rochas has surprised everyone. If he keeps it up, Imo will experience lasting development. |
Posted on 29/07/2011 by Prince Charles Oforkaja Owerri- In an apparent response to igbodefender.com’s call on Igbo governors to return Igboland to palm oil, the active governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has taken the first step by starting two new plantations in Imo State. He has also brought in Malaysian experts to help establish the farms. In a meeting with state leaders in Government House, Owerri he stated that Imo State must become a palm oil producing state, noting that Malaysia got it’s first palm oil seedlings from Nigeria. To signal his commitment to the project, Governor Okorocha announced that the state would start additional palm oil plantations. The Equianoist Governor also called for the participation of high networth individuals from the State. He also announced the name of the States plantation as Imo Palm Plantation. It will be recalled that igbodefender.com had in a powerful editorial, published on July 7, 2011, called on governments and individuals in Igboland to return the Ibo homeland back to big-time palm oil producing status. © igbodefender.com 2011 http://igbodefender.com/2011/07/29/action-governor-listens-to-igbodefender-com-inaugurates-palm-oil-revolution/ |
@ Negro_Ntns: Just like the Yoruba, who surely have some Igbos that assimilated with them during the Moremi days, the Igbos are also made up of others. For instance, today's English people are descended largely from Normans (the French) and Saxons (Germans). |
@ Negro-Ntns: Nri is the place where Eri settled. Aro is a powerful Igbo kingdom that later dominated the rest of Igboland, sougt of like an "Oyo- Ibadan" situation. Except in the Igbo case, the descendants of Eri where priest kings, so they didn't really mind. |
Which fathers? Name them. |
We go back to bble times. Eri was the son of Gad, who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Isaac. |
@ negro-ntns Go read any primary school history book. They will tell you Eri was the father of the Igbo race. |
Are the Igbos different from the Ibos? Posted on 27/07/2011 by Prince Charles Oforkaja Sometimes, some Igbos get offended when their ethnicity is described as Ibo. They say that the word “Igbo” is the only correct term for their ethnic group. That is not true. Our founding father, Eri Ben Gad described himself as Heebo, after his Hebrew ethnic group. Olaudah Equiano described himself as Iboe- remember, he is the Equianoist icon. In the Jamaican Revolution of 1816, the Reggae nation named their leader “The King of the Eboes”.Many other great Equianoists (Igbos) have described themselves by different variants of this name. What matters is that we all know they were talking of the same people, the great Igbo race. So, next time someone calls you Ibo, don’t frown. Smile! That is what you are. I forgot to add, as the creator of the forum on igbodefender.com, you can make it public- open for any poster; private- membership is limited to approval of the the forum admin; hidden- forum is not open to invitation, just to a selected few. Ndigbo, you need a forum site to witdraw to. You need an imeobi to go in and discuss anioma or alaigbo. |
@ Ezeuce, I have witnessed the savage attacks being meeted out to you by Igbo-aters on this forum. They say you are a tribalist, but you are a hero, who is passionately defending his people against injustice. My quetion is, why don't you and other serious Igbo activists like Chyz, Obiagu, Zeeno, e.t.c, form a private forum in igbodefender.com? There, no one can derail your pro-Igbo threads, and you get to ban anyone who comes in through the back door to do that. Imagine being admin on forum discussing your 'palm oil' and 'true extent of Alaigbo' threads. That's wat you get by starting your forum at igbodefender.com. If you need a private group, go start an Ezeuche's group thread there now. The Igbos need what you have to offer, but here is not the right place for uninterupted discussion by Ndigbo. As I speak to you, I have my own forum called Bellten Club, and I'm thinking of making it private and inviting a few trusted people. |
@ alex_101, I think we Igbos should go and start forums in igbodefender.com. The website allows anyone to start, and admin his own forum. Also you can make it private, so only those you invite can join and post. I have my own forum, called Bellten Club. I admin it. Why can't Ezeuche, and other Igbos go form their own groups at igbodefender.com, and shut out Igbo-haters from their threads? |
@ Negro-ntns, Lol @ Eko Efun. Where did you get that? The people call their town Ukwu Nzu, and that's that. |
The Anioma's already have some powerful voices in Iweala and Uwechue, who understand the need for Igbo unity. |
@ 2mch, the link isn't going. As Obiagu said, those people are Igbos. |
I don't believe the report of the Tribune on the Olukwumi people. I believe this link: http://www.africaresource.com/rasta/sesostris-the-great-the-egyptian-hercules/the-greater-igbo-nation-by-ishaq-d-al-sulaimani/ |
@ Ezeuche, The Olukwumi, are the Igbos who once occupied Ile-Ife, befoe they were defeated, due to the weakness of their king Obatala Oreluere for a Yoruba woman called Moremi. According to the book Equianoism, their leader next leader was Crown Prince Chima, who later became Eze Chima of Onitsha. |
Besides the name is OLUKWUMI, not Olukumi. You must add W to the K. If not, it is like saying ORAUKU, instead of ORAUKWU. |
Olukumi are Anioma, Anioma are Igbos. If not why are the Olukumi in ANIOCHA LGA? Does Aniocha sound Yoruba? No, so the Olukumi people are bonafide Igbos. End of story. |
