So Russia..like any modern military force has a secure system in place for sensitive military communications...The problem here is this system relies on 3G/4G access and what was one of the first things targeted by the Russian military when they entered Ukraine?
The cell towers...Sayonara 3G/4G...

So the reports on the ground are that Russian commanders cannot communicate with each other using their “secure” military communications system...As a result they are using cellphones with rudimentary encryption the kind you buy off the open market...Easily decrypted by any military intelligence..

Most of these general dead were tracked and taken out by Ukrainian forces because they(officers inclusive) around him were using barely secured phones to communicate..

“Some bathed in the Siverskyi Donets River, and some were burned by the May sun,” it said.

A Russian soldier accused of killing an unarmed Ukrainian civilian has appeared in court in Kyiv today, ahead of the first war crimes trial since the start of the war.

Vadim Shishimarin, 21, was brought to court for a preliminary hearing, accused of killing an unarmed 62- year-old civilian.

Shishimarin, who confirmed that he was a Russian serviceman, faces possible life imprisonment on charges of war crimes and premeditated murder.

"One of the military servicemen ordered the accused to kill a civilian so that he would not report them," according to a statement from prosecutor Iryna Venediktova's office on Thursday.

Shishimarin will tell the court at a later date whether or not he denies the charge, his lawyer Viktor Ovsyannikov said. The judge said the court will reconvene on 18 May.

Russia said it had no information about the trial, and has repeatedly denied any involvement in war crimes.

Finland is 99.9% likely to join Nato, a former prime minister of the country tells the BBC.

Alexander Stubb, who was PM from 2014-15, says the Finnish president will announce Finland's intention to join tomorrow, followed by an announcement from the government over the weekend, and a joint statement from Finland and Sweden early next week.

He says there is "overwhelming support" in Finland for joining the alliance, citing a poll from Tuesday which showed 76% in favour and 12% against - a big swing from pre-invasion figures.

He warns, however, that during the "grey zone" of the membership application process - until Nato security guarantees come into effect - there may be Russian intimidation, cyber attacks and disinformation.

But he says Finland and Sweden have some of the largest armies in Europe, and that their leaders have been collecting security assurances from the US, UK, Germany and France.

"We feel very safe in this situation, not really worried about it at all," he says.
