Why bother the guy? I think you should cut him some slack. If he tells you around N100k, someone else might underbid him. My way is to talk to the guy privately, get the quote/estimate and then throw it out openly to ascertain if it is a fair deal. The level of disclosure you expect will be difficult to obtain.

You should be able to give a range , a range is not same as a quote and a quote is not an invoice but all works have a range . I believe Egunmogaji is on point.
