Khay2: The smartphone market in Nigeria keeps expanding, and users now have so many options depending on budget and preference. Popular names like Samsung, Xiaomi, Tecno, and Infinix are already established, but newer players are also trying to make their mark.
One brand that has been pushing recently is realme. They’ve launched models like the Note 50, C61, C75, C75x, and most recently the C71. From what I’ve seen, they focus a lot on battery life, durability, decent performance, and fast charging in the budget–midrange segment. They’ve also started opening service centers in cities across the country, like Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt, which is good for after-sales support.
That being said, every brand seems to have its strong and weak points, some focus more on cameras, others on design, gaming, or durability.
👉 So, I’m curious:
Which phone brands have impressed you the most recently?
Has anyone here tried realme devices, and how’s the experience compared to Tecno, Infinix, Xiaomi, or Samsung?
What do you personally look out for first when buying a new phone?
Let’s hear your thoughts. I’d just stick to familiar brands like Tecno and the likes, I’m not trying new brands anytime soon |
Phones › Re: The Rise Of Water-resistant Phones: A Game-changer In Mobile Technology by Bestchild: 9:02pm On Aug 31, 2025 |
IheomaAkparanta: Water-resistant phones have become increasingly popular in recent years, and it's easy to see why. With the IP69 rating becoming a standard feature in many flagship and mid-range devices, phone manufacturers are prioritizing durability and water resistance. But what exactly does IP69 mean, and which phones are leading the charge?
Understanding IP Ratings
IP stands for Ingress Protection, a rating system that measures a device's resistance to solid particles (dust) and water. The rating consists of two numbers: the first digit represents dust protection, while the second digit represents water resistance. For instance, IP68-rated phones can withstand submersion in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, it's essential to note that IP ratings apply to freshwater in controlled lab conditions, and saltwater, chlorinated water, or high-pressure water can still damage devices.
Every brand in Nigeria right now is doing their best to incorporate water resistance into their devices. Phones like the Tecno Spark 40, realmeC75 & C75X, the Samsung S25, you name it. The least waterproof rating on any newly released phone in Nigeria now is the IP54 and the highest is the IP69. It's fun to see phone adverts including intentionally dropping phone in water, freezing phones, putting phones under running water and all sorts of weird water tests to prove how resistant to water these phones are. Like how did we get here?
Benefits of Water-Resistant Phones
Water-resistant phones offer several benefits, including: - Increased Durability: With water resistance, phones can withstand accidental splashes, rain, or brief submersion in water. - Peace of Mind: Water-resistant phones provide users with confidence in their device's ability to withstand unexpected water exposure. - Enhanced Camera Capabilities: Water-resistant phones enable users to capture photos and videos in wet conditions or underwater.
The rise of water-resistant phones has revolutionized the mobile industry, offering users increased durability and peace of mind. With top brands like Apple, Samsung, realme, Tecno and other popular brands incorporating water resistance into their devices, it's clear that this feature is here to stay. Whether you're an avid photographer or an outdoor enthusiast, water-resistant phones are definitely worth considering. So tell me would you be getting a water resistant device? Does the water resistant trend appeal to you? Tecno and the likes have been producing water proof phones since |
