2. THE SHY LADY

You ask for her number and suddenly she becomes interested in the floor. She smiles, looks away, checks her friend’s face and eventually gives you the number quietly. When you text later, her first few replies may be short and cautious. Do not immediately conclude that she hates you. Some ladies simply need time to become comfortable with a stranger.

3. THE “WHAT DO YOU WANT IT FOR?” LADY

This one will not give you the number until she understands your intentions. “Why do you want my number?” “Where did you see me?” “Are you married?” “Do you have a girlfriend?” Before you know it, a simple request has turned into a job interview. You came to collect a number and somehow ended up submitting your personal history.

4. THE INTERESTED LADY

This one makes life easy. You ask and she says, “Sure,” or even takes your phone and saves the number herself. Sometimes she will dial the number so she can save the number and some will message you before you get home with, “Hi, it’s me.” At least you know the communication door is open. Still, collecting her number is not the same thing as collecting her heart. You still have to build the connection.

5. THE SOCIAL MEDIA LADY

You ask for her number and she says, “You can follow me on Instagram first.” You follow, she accepts, and now you are entering her DM like a new applicant. Some ladies genuinely prefer social media before giving out their personal number because it allows them to know who they are dealing with.

6. THE “GIMME YOUR NUMBER FIRST” LADY

“Give me your number first.”

You give her.

“I’ll save it.”

Three days later, nothing.

You remind her that you haven't seen her call.

“Oh sorry, I forgot.”

This js simply her polite way of saying, “I don’t want to give you my number, but I don’t want to embarrass you.” Learn to read patterns instead of chasing explanations.

7. THE “I HAVE A BOYFRIEND” LADY

You ask for her number and she immediately tells you she has a boyfriend. Whether she genuinely has one or is using it as a polite rejection, the appropriate response is the same. Respect it and move on. You do not need to start arguing that you only wanted friendship.

8. THE BACKGROUND CHECK LADY

You have collected the number, but the real investigation is just beginning. She checks your WhatsApp picture, status.She might even ask for your Instagram, or Facebook and possibly your mutual friends. She may not say anything, but she has already discovered the picture you posted in 2023 and the questionable comment you made under somebody’s relationship post.

9. THE “WHY DID YOU ASK FOR MY NUMBER?” LADY

This one may actually be enjoying the interaction. “Why did you ask for my number?” You tell her she caught your attention, then she starts asking what exactly you noticed about her. If she is smiling, engaging and keeping the conversation going, the question may simply be her way of finding out your intentions.

10. THE “I LIKE YOU, BUT LET ME WATCH YOU FIRST” LADY

She gives you the number but does not immediately become emotionally available. She wants to see how you behave. Are you respectful? Are you only interested in sex? Do you become angry when she does not reply immediately? Do you start asking for pictures after two conversations? Some women are not playing hard to get. They are simply being careful.

The mistake many men make is trying to determine a woman’s feelings from one action. A woman giving you her number does not automatically mean she likes you, just as a slow reply does not automatically mean she is playing games.

Look at the pattern. Does she engage with you? Does she ask questions? Does she make time for you? Does she sometimes initiate? Is she comfortable meeting you?
