My understanding is that Xabi will not play with Enzo and Caicedo in a 3-4-2-1 and that is evidenced by the immediate chase for Xhaka upon his arrival, and subsequent follow-ups for similar players in Wharton, Alex Scott, Manu Kone et al.... one the Xhaka deal fell through.

My preference is Alex Scott.

They will all be older by the next tournament and there's no indication that they will play any better than what we've seen this year. There's also no good young players coming up the ranks.
