Team, I need your assistance

bodeface:
Team DIY,

I am monitoring and inspecting my proposed site for the solar panel installation and these questions arise, I need the expert advice;

1. I observed that the area where I am proposing to install has the shadow of electric wire line (small line shadow) and small portion of the electric pole shadow that pass through the place around 2:45pm (Note I have limited space to install)

2. Whats the maximum distance between the Solar panels and the Charge controller, also between the charge controller and the battery or as long the cable are properly sized it doesn't matter?

3. Is it compulsory to install the surge controller with every installation, if so what type is cheaper and effective, where could i source this, for the combiner box must it be OEM type or can one get one locally or fabricate or is there a make shift type that could be used as I do not see so much specialty in combiner box as it looks like a small DB could be used for combining.

4. If I have two banks of battery 48VDC, 4 X 200Ah with two independent 3.5KVA inverters to each bank and I want a single PV system to charge the two banks, is it possible and if possible how will the battery configuration / connection be, also from calculation and experience what wattage of PV panels will be able to effectively charge the two bank together.

Thanks team for all help.

Team,
I am trying to lookup the Yachi / Yahsun and Yingli solar panel brands on the internet, I am just trying to lookup these China brands to compare with all these well know European brands,
I was able to find the Yingli website but I couldn't find any website for Yachi / Yahsun brand, I know that many people has used it and a dealer on this forum is selling these unit, can anyone who has used these unit comment on this brand, I will appreciate a link to the manufacturer website also.

Check out this comparison.

@Babaegun, Thanks for the comparison sheet, at face value looks like the midnite classic stands out, which agrees with what SAIPRO says, I will prefer the unit with the best tracking for the maximum power point.

Thanks for the enlightenment @Babaegun @Saipro

No such thing as a best, as your requirements and application would determine utility.

For the commercial versions:

- Xantrex followed up from Trace and is pretty good. Perhaps the cheapest of the lot.
- MorningStar MPPT is touted as having the best DC-DC converters (their SureSine inverter is literally unbeatable in efficiency, sorry for digressing)
- Magnum is touted as having the highest amps output. New firmware upgrades keep improving performance. Lots of input from Outback and Midnite (as developers).
- Outback is largely the brainchild of the guys who developed Xantrex. Lots of improvements and tons of new features.
- Midnite. The self-acclaimed industry standard. Has a few features not seen in others. Guys who developed the Outback went on to start Midnite. Pretty pricy too.
- Then there's SMA, odd one out of the top players but pretty nifty too. Prefers to work alone. Or be boss when working with others.

That's the evolution. Also, pricing tends to follow the ordering in the list. Where MorningStar excels at DC-DC conversion, Outback and Midnite excel at tracking the maximum power point. You decide which is more important to you (I prefer tracking here because of the rapidly changing insolation levels from cloud cover interference).

PS: You are most unlikely to fully utilise the potential of either Outback (FM series) or Midnite (Classic series) charge controllers. What are you really looking for (asides reputation and stability)?

@SAIPRO, you are very detail and so knowledgeable in this trade, do you have a coy, do you manage design and installation of the Solar systems, kindly let me know we might be able to do somethings together

Team,

Please, without considering the cost, which MPPT Charge controller is the best in the market among; Midnite classic solar 150 / 200, Outback FM60 /80, Tristar MPPT 60A, Schneider Xantrex 150V / 600V, Magnum, e.t.c in terms of best solar harvest, durability, flexibility, extend-ability remote accessibility and e.t.c

Which maker or model is the best.

Thanks

To the Solar Gurus in the house,
Good Morning All!
I have been following this thread for awhile and am fascinated with testimonies from those who have upgraded to RE.
I am looking at upgrading my 3.5KW, 200AH, 48V inverter system to solar since power utility company has gone on strike (LOL) in my area, can you kindly advice number of solar panels and charge controller size that will charge the system perfectly, I understand that best performing devices are not the most costly at times, kindly advice the brand and the model (solar panel & CC & others) that is cheap but yet powerful (tested and trusted) and other things I might need for the Upgrade.
Thanks to all, do have a great Sunday!

@Dmerciful,
Am a DIY guy, I am just trying to rub mind with highly experienced guys like you, I know you have been in the game for long and will love to check my calculations and equipment brands with you guys before jumping into it, appreciate all assistance.

Just a digression here and extending it beyond this scope.

Most estates in Lekki areas are also giving "deed of sublease" and retiring the lease before the expiration of their C of O residue, though all land in Nigeria are vested in the hand of the governors and nobody owns the land, however retiring the lease before the expiration of the original lease (C of O) term puts the buyer at disadvantages in the future;

1. The buyer has no legal standing on the land by few days to the end of the C of O term and is not recognized any longer by the governor even with the "governor consent" to this lease, hence to extend the lease after 99years is solely vested in the original holder of the land (C of O), he is the only one recognized by the governor since the other party lease has expired just before the the c of O expired and the land reverted to the holder of the C of O.

2. Extending the lease now depends on the original C of O holder and he is the only one recognized by the governor to approach government for extension of the c of o, therefore the buyer is now at absolute mercy or conditions set out by the original owners and their heirs or benefactors. They may ask for exorbitant amount to renew the lease to the occupier of the land, just think about someone being told to move from their Ikoyi house as their fathers lease on the land has expired!

My little advice is shine your eyes before you leap, but into " sublease" at your own risk, if avoidable please look for land with title " Deed of Assignment" meaning the original owner of the C of O has assigned all his interest in the piece of land to you and you have become the owner of the residue of the C of O and by extension any future extension, you can approach the government to extend your lease, anyway its all about reserving an inheritance for ones ward, if the sellers are reserving some right for their wards what stops the buyer from doing so.

No! They won't resign

Let the FG kiss their asses

It's obvious the FG is the one behind all these allegations and they will fail

By the way former speaker Salisu buhari just like the tyrant in aso rock also forged his certificate which is a more serious offence

He should even be in jail but Saraki and Ekweremadu changed Senate rules that was outdated I don't see the offence here
When we look at things in this nation, I want us to always be objective, outburst based on sentiments like the one above will continue to hurt this nation, when we support what's wrong in the name of sentiments, leaving the matter for Mathias will only end up creating a disordered nation like we are currently experiencing, the real matter is did they forge the standing rule or not?
That you see forgery as a small case because everyone is doing it tells so much about you, I pray you will understand. Let's begin to create a better Nigeria for comming generation if we aren't interested in changing the order of things in our generation. Long live Nigeria

@Ladypinky

All well said and good, which of these estate is ready and once payment is made, the owner can take possession of his or her plot same day (I mean same day). Do you have the estate already layout and the prospective buyer can actually choose by himself the portion he or she is interested in and can take possession of the said plot right away, any other hidden charges?, is this money inclusive of the infrastructure or has to be paid for separately and if so how much.
What is the title, deed of assignment or deed of sublease?
There has been lots of scam around land procurement in Nigeria most especially Lekki axis and others, this is what is scaring people away, more insight around these questions will be good, then more people will be excited to get involve.
