****Drum Rolls**** It’s here, it’s live… 5G has finally arrived! After months of teasing and countdown, MTN, the biggest mobile network provider in Nigeria, has finally deployed 5G! We know they are piloting the service in seven cities: Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja, Maiduguri, Kano, and Owerri. We have also been informed that the services have been deployed in 81 areas in Lagos (Ikorodu, Ikotun, Egbeda, and the rest of the trenches communities would have to wait their turn).

Theoretically, 5G is around 20 times faster than 4G, but as with all things technology and beyond, theory and reality are often mutually exclusive-Life no balance! We tested MTN 5G in Unilag; the video is Here, and while the maths wasn’t mathing, we have some answers to your questions:

Speed

On paper, 5G is supposed to be 20 times faster than 4G (1Gbps vs. 20Gbps), but the infrastructure is where the comma dey. 5G operates via either the Mmwave or the Sub-6GHz frequencies. Sub-6GHz utilises mid and low frequencies (under 6GHz); meanwhile, mmwave uses higher frequency radio bands ranging from 24GHz to 40GHz. When you hear foreigners rave about 5G speed, they are more often than not talking about Mmwave. Deploying Mmwave is relatively more expensive, so most network providers (even in developed countries) deploy Sub-6Ghz frequencies. Per our 5G tests in UNILAG, we suspect MTN is broadcasting 5G using the Sub-6GHz. When you get your 5G-enabled mobile phone, temper your expectations.

TLDR? Mmwave offers better speed, but the range is limited. Sub-6Ghz offers 4G-like speed; however, the range is wider, so network providers (especially the early adopters) are more likely to deploy Sub-6Ghz to save costs.

You will not likely be able to download 10Gb in 10 seconds any time soon. The tech will take time to mature or not

Yeah, a 5000VA stab should do, though there are limits to how low the voltage will be to even power the stab just like seankafor said.

Is AVS a good alternative.

It works well for me.. just that extra low currents can't carry the stabilizer..

It is what it is. Same generator can power 1.5HP inverter AC. The power needed to start up many equipment with pumps and compressors is sometimes about 2.5 of the rated power. Your 1.5HP AC for instance may have a power consumption of 1100W and may require 2.5×1200=2750W for start up. If your generator is the Sumec Firman SPG3000 series then its not possible for the gen to survive this because that generator is 3.5KVA max( 2800W max).
Inverter ACs on the other hand don't require such huge amount of starting power and also don't run intermittently like conventional ACs.

This has been an eye-opener... Thank you so much chief. One more question, Nepa doesn't really work with the AC too, the voltage is admittedly poor. The AC runs but the fan on the outdoor unit struggles to roll, when it does, it rolls slowly, so the AC output is subpar. Will a 5,0000 Watts Stab help?/

This is like asking why a 20 liter bucket of oranges does not produce 20 litres of orange juice. 6.5HP is the power (mechanical) produced by the engine. The conversation of that mechanical (motion) power to eletrical power by the coils involve lots of power loss. Some are lost as noise, heat , etc. Even the whole energy from fuel (chemical) is not fully coverted to mechanical energy is engines, there are losses. In airplanes for instance, the loss of energy from chemical ( fuel ) to mechanical energy is over 30%.

All the KVA ratings quoted sound more like HP( horse power). A typical 6.5HP generator outputs around 3.5KVA for example. It's either the seller is ignorant or he/she is trying to play a fast one on you.

Why then is my own 3.5KVA not supporting my 1.5HP regular AC and TV

See Brah, incase of next time, you are killing your generator (2.5Kva) by ever trying to power your fridge and AC at the same time unless the AC is 1HP inverter. That's too much a load honestly.

My 3.5kva (6.5hp) can't power my 1.5hp gen...
