Jamie Carragher gives scathing review of Man Utd's Cristiano Ronaldo "mistake" The Liverpool legend has reiterated has reasons as to why he feels Manchester United made a mistake in overseeing the return of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to Old Trafford Jamie Carragher has given a scathing review of Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United and questioned the Red Devils' motivation for signing him for a second time last summer The 37-year-old has contributed with a vital goal on a number of occasions this season, but there is an argument to be had that he has made United a less well-rounded collective - something Carragher alludes to. Ronaldo hit the ground running with a brace on his second debut, but at the turn of the calendar year the goals started to dry up. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner endured his worst goal drought for more than a decade at a time when United could have really used him having his shooting boots on. United's iconic number seven went five Premier League games without scoring, as well as failing to find the net against Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Ronaldo's brilliance has not helped him evade father time and the Portugal skipper is seemingly struggling to contribute anything more than being a forward player to aim at. Carragher did not hold back on his feelings towards Ronaldo's Old Trafford return in his column for the Telegraph. "Cristiano Ronaldo's invaluable contribution to Manchester United’s Premier League win over Brighton was another reminder of his unparalleled appetite for goals. But it does not change this reality: United made a mistake re-signing Ronaldo last summer. It will be a bigger one keeping him next season." United offered the 37-year-old a two-year contract, meaning he has another season after this one left to run on a deal that sees him earn the highest wage in the Premier League. Given his end product has shown signs of starting to wane this term, question marks remain over whether his goal contributions will decline further next term. Carragher goes on to analyse whether the forward would be worth keeping in the wake of his astronomical salary. "Given the cost of signing such a superstar as Ronaldo (an estimated £500,000 a week), it is not a smart investment," the former Reds defender added. "Let me repeat: I am talking about this stage of his career, not casting a critical glance and everything he has achieved. How can I, or anyone, credibly criticise someone who has won five Champions League titles and scored over 800 goals? "But if you sign Ronaldo right now, it is short-term recruitment expected to deliver instant success. United are way off the pace domestically and it would be a major surprise if they win the Champions League. That is why Ralf Rangnick is openly speaking about the need for United to sign another striker before next season." Rangnick's men currently sit fourth in the Premier League after the recent win against Brighton, but their advantage is a slender one. United are just two points ahead of West Ham and four in front of Arsenal, though the Gunners still have three games in hand. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manutd-carragher-ronaldo-return-mistake-26265616?utm_source=linkCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar |

Manchester City had to take an unexpected detour and land in Liverpool on Wednesday after high winds scuppered a safe landing in Manchester. City were travelling back to England following their 5-0 last-16 first-leg win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League the night before. However, as they descended over Manchester it had to circle over the city three times before it was diverted to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. City took to Twitter on Wednesday to confirm that first-team squad landed safely. 'We can confirm the plane transporting the first team home from Lisbon has landed safely in Liverpool, after high winds forced a diversion from Manchester.' Liverpool Airport also confirmed the news: 'Great to safely welcome Manchester City to the football capital of England this afternoon, after their flight was diverted from their home airport due to high winds.' As reported this week, Manchester is currently dealing with Storm Dudley which hit the UK on Wednesday. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning from 3pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday. They also warned that road and rail services may be affected due to the strong winds, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/teampages/manchester-city.html |
DoggoneDogg:Just because Nigeria is not growing doesn't mean other countries are not trying to develop in all aspects Ukraine military of 2014 and Ukraine military of now is not the same. Yea, everybody knows that Russia is superior but at the same time Ukraine can resist the Russian aggression through guriella war. And the west will be honoured to support it. |

Manchester United's Premier League and Champions League double winners of 2007/08 have been voted the best team in Premier League history. Sir Alex Ferguson's great strength was that he was able to build several Premier League winning teams over a number of generations, something no one else has done in the era. Amongst his achievements is the incredible Treble winning team in 1998/99, which won the league, Champions League and FA Cup in one season. However, many have often believed that the 2008 version, who fell short in the FA Cup, were actually the better team and they've been voted the best. The double winners, which included the likes of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez, have been voted number one, beating the Treble winners as well as the likes of Arsenal's Invincibles and Manchester City's 'centurions.' Whilst the Treble winners of nine years before got a higher percentage of votes, the double winners got more votes than the team who won more. As well as becoming European champions, both teams have the added achievement of being part of a run of three Premier League title wins in-a-row. Only United have managed it to date, with the Treble win kicking off three years of domination, whilst the double winners were were defending the title, and would go on to win it one more time. Fergie's later side also nearly defended the Champions League title, and would have been the first side to do so, but ran into Pep Guardiola's incredible Barcelona in the final, losing 2-0. As well as the two United teams, Arsenal's undefeated season of 2003/04 came second, which is without doubt one of the great achievements of the Premier League's history. Arsene Wenger's team didn't lose a game in the league all season but their 12 draws, lack of cup success and the fact they couldn't follow it up with another title, with the Gunners without a league title since, no doubt going against them. Guardiola's Manchester team getting 100 points in the 2017/18 season is third on the list, City beat United by 19 points that season and followed it up by defeating Liverpool by a point the season after. The Reds take up fourth on our list for their impressive win in 2019/20, which ended 30 years without the title heading to Anfield. Jurgen Klopp's team won the title by 18 points and were agonisingly close to reaching the century mark themselves, on 99 points, having gone the first 27 games only dropping two points. The Treble winners come next and they're followed by Chelsea's 2004/05 title winners, when Jose Mourinho's team only conceded 15 goals all season, which is an incredible achievement. Leicester City's title win in 2015/16 rounds things off, with Claudio Ranieri's shock victory still considered one of the greatest surprises in sports history. https://www.sportbible.com/football/manchester-uniteds-2008-team-voted-premier-leagues-greatest-ever-20220207
