Jonathan directs immediate action to end ASUU strike 2013-08-20 16:52:51 President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday directed the two Federal Government committees negotiating the requests by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to take immediate measures at ending the on-going strike. The Chairman of the Universities Needs Implementation Committee, Gov. Gabriel Suswam of Benue,爉ade this known after a closed-door meeting of the two committees and other stakeholders with President Jonathan at the State House.in Abuja. Vice-President Namadi Sambo, the Chairman of the Earned Allowance Committee and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim were in attendance at the meeting. Also in attendance were, Ministers of Education, Prof. Ruqayyat Rufai, Labour, Emeka Wogu, the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okogie and the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadome. Speaking with State House correspondents, Suswam said that the meeting was summoned by the President “to take some decisions that would end the strike''. “The燩resident has instructed us, as to what to do, and he has shown a lot of commitments to flagging off projects worth about N100 billion in all the universities in the country, about 61 of them. “So, we are hoping that we will be able to see the end of the strike very soon. “At the end of the day, we hope ASUU is satisfied with the measures that have so far been taken. “The federal government will also be meeting with the Universities Councils and Vice Chancellors of our universities within the week towards updating them on some of the decisions taken,'' he said. Suswam said about N100 billion had been approved by the Federal Government to his committee to address infrastructure deficit in all the Universities. |
strike ends 2day......insha allah...... The end to the present strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be in sight as President Goodluck Jonathan has approved N400 billion for the infrastructural development of Nigerian universities. The document to this effect is expected to be made available today at the meeting of the presidential committee on implementation of the NEEDS assessment in the universities with the leaders of the four university-based unions – the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The President of SSANU, Samson Ugwoke, made the revelation while addressing his union members at the SSANU National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the weekend at the University of Abuja. Ugwoke, briefing the SSANU members on the activities of the NEEDS assesment implementation committee, led by Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam. He noted that the fund was different from the N100 billion Governor Suswam had raised from donor agencies and big companies to tackle the problems of Nigerian universities in 2013. The labour leader said: “Let me give you a tip on what the NEEDS assessment committee is doing. The president has approved that within the next four years; N400 billion would be expended in infrastructural development of Nigerian universities, to transform the universities to international standard. “N100 billion has already been raised by Suswam committee out of which 61 universities have been pencilled down, as contained in the NEEDS assessment committee. The N100 billion is expected to address needs of the universities in the areas which include re-furbishing and renovation of lecture theatres and lecture halls, re-furbishing and renovation of laboratories/libraries and the renovation of hostels. “The second category is building of new hostels of international standard, self-contained rooms, the latest model in the world. That is the standard to be built in every university, and also the state-of-the-art laboratories as well as classrooms, lecture theatres and the halls.” Ugwoke pointed out that the money had been shared and out of the N100 billion, N96 billion had been sent to universities. He added: “The committee is meeting again on Monday, and by Monday (today), the document will be out. This time around, it is not only by giving university money, but it will be monitored to ensure that the money is used to transform the universities, to bail universities out of the present situation and developed to an international recognized university standard.” #......countdown contines.....98.98% |

hope 4 naija students......... Mass protest in Lagos over ASUU strike Published: Tue, 13 Aug 2013 The Joint Action Front (JAF), a coalition of non-governmental organisations and pro-democracy groups is staging a mass protest on the streets of Lagos to pressure the Federal Government to implement agreement with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions in the sector. The protest, led by the groups Secretary, Comrade Abiodun Aremu; its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Isiaq Olaitan Buno, among others, took off from the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat in Yaba, and moved through the Ikorodu Road to converge at the Gani Fawehinmi park in Ojota. According to Buno, the protest became necessary following the neglect currently being suffered by the education sector in the country and its attendant consequences, which he stated included the raging violence in the northern part of the country, armed robbery, kidnapping, among others. In a statement earlier issued by the Chairman of the forum and former President of ASUU, Dr. Dipo Fashina, the group resolved with other stakeholders in the education sector to kick-start the mass rallies/procession today. Zonal rallies are expected to hold in Kano, Ibadan, Owerri, Calabar/Port Harcourt, and Abuja. |

If FOOTBALL were to be an academic institution in Nigeria then: Arsenal is unizik- where the students work hard through out the year but fail to succeed. Manchester City is IGBINEDION- where the students purchase all the expensive items and live large but are never interested in dere primary assignment. Liverpool is UNILAG- where the students are very much proud of the academic achievements of their grand fathers. Barcelona is UNIILORIN- where students don't perform well in class except dere final exams and achieve good results. Chelsea is OSU- where students fail and put the blame on their VC after which, d government will intervene to find a new VC for the school every year R.Madrid is UI- where students think dey perform best and keep beefing d best students of other schools. Finally, Manchester United is YABATECH - where students work hard, perform well in class and achieve d best result in the whole country. =)) =)) Greatest Nigeria student!!! Unique YABAITEs!!! Pls pass dis if u r proud to be a YABATECH student, staff or alumnus.others are good, but we r d best!!!!!!!!!!!! |

With all tarmangant ossifying proclivities of a kakistocracy, our knowledgia centura is enveloped in a paraphlegic crinkum crankum. Therefore, ASUU, cest in dejavu, dejavu peret ologomabia." |
