Win up to $10,000 Seed Funding in the NCDMB Oil & Gas Technology Hackathon 

The Nigerian Oil and Gas Technology (NOGTECH) programme is the first-ever Oil and Gas hackathon with the primary aim of fostering innovations in the oil and gas industry as well as creating a platform for the proliferation of local content. The programme is headlined by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) with partnership from Learners Support Consultancy and BrentHub.

NOGTECH aims to address the challenges faced by the nation’s oil and gas industry and its linkage sectors by ideating, developing and prototyping digital technology solutions that solve these pertinent problems. The programme is promoting innovation by offering seed funding, business mentorship and incubation to the winning ideas.

Call for Submissions

The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote, disclosed that “five teams will get $10,000 equity-free grants each”.

In a webinar session titled “Innovating for the future of Nigeria’s Oil & Gas Industry and its Linkage Sectors.”, Engr. Wabote revealed that submissions into the programme will be scrutinised based on several factors.

”Participants must be a team/company of at least two or more members with at least 75 per cent of the founding team as Nigerians. The team/company must be a registered or intending to register as a profit/business entity. The solution described in response to the challenge must be driven by digital technology – Software, Hardware or both.”

He also disclosed that “the solution must either be at the ideation stage, prototype level or a launched solution that hasn’t gained commercial traction. The team must be available to participate in a three-day hackathon as well as a three-month incubation programme, if selected.”

Solving the Industry’s Toughest Challenges

NCDMB is determined to unearth scalable solutions to the industry’s biggest challenges. Some of the identified problem areas include the rising problem of pipeline vandalism, increase in cyber-physical risk, widening skill gap, supply chain and logistics inefficiency, rising carbon footprint and issues surrounding transparency, accountability and civic engagement.

Innovators are encouraged to proffer sustainable and scalable solutions to these biggest challenges faced by industry stakeholders.

Pitching to Investors

Ultimately, the winning teams will have an opportunity to pitch their prototypes to investors. But before then, the NOGTECH programme is taking place over several weeks with the selected ideas advancing on a stage by stage basis.

The first stage is the call for submissions where teams and startups are encouraged to submit their ideas. Shortlisted teams in each of the challenge areas will first be invited to present online to a team of experienced entrepreneurs and industry professionals. The most promising teams will then be selected to participate in an all-expense-paid 3-day hackathon. Submit your ideas here

During this time, shortlisted participants will have a couple of days to collaborate and build their prototypes or fine-tune existing prototypes with guidance from industry stakeholders, experts and mentors. At the end of the Bootcamp, teams will revalidate their solutions and have the opportunity to pitch to a panel of judges. Prizes for Winning Teams

The winning five teams will undergo a 3-month incubation program where each team will get a $10,000 equity-free grant, a work-space, expert mentors, global partners and unprecedented market access over three-months, ensuring they become commercial and investor-ready.

At the end of the incubation, the teams will participate in a showcase day to demonstrate their progress. This showcase will aim to connect them with investors and industry stakeholders where they can further amplify their market access.

The English Premier League has taken a very huge step in the right direction with the Black Lives Matter Movement to Eradicate Racism – Olamide Baron

The Premier League returned on the 17th June after every top-flight club approved the proposed matchday protocol.

And it is for that first round of fixtures, starting with Aston Villa vs Sheffield United and Manchester City vs Arsenal, that they had their kits proudly modified.

Players from across the league have already shown their support for the Black Lives Matter movement, kneeling during training sessions and even before games - such as Arsenal before their 3-2 loss at home to Brentford.

It was in effect for the opening 12 games of the restart of the league, and when names returned a BLM logo is featured on shirts and this will run for the rest of the season.

A statement from players at all 20 clubs including Nigeria and Super Eagles superstar Kelechi Iheanacho read: "We, the Players, stand together with the singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for All, regardless of their colour or creed.

"This symbol is a sign of unity from all Players, all Staff, all Clubs, all Match Officials and the Premier League #blacklivesmatter #playerstogether."

Premier League chiefs also consulted with leading players before confirming their Black Lives Matter stance.

They have already supported stars who decide to "take a knee" before or during matches.

Despite expectations, a firm position was agreed, club bosses agreed to leave detailed discussions to the league executive.

The club chiefs, meeting virtually for the 12th time since the Premier League was shut down in March, signalled their determination to show strong support for the worldwide campaign.

But it was felt it was vital clubs ensured their next steps met the wishes and message the players, who represent the public face of the league to millions of fans around the globe, want to send.

Though there were concerns any show of support for the movement would be pointless unless the league’s action has already been backed by the players.

League chiefs spoke to representatives of the players at all 20 clubs, seeking their input and observations about potential measures.

These are understood to include a clear statement of the League’s support for the campaign as part of a pre-match collective kneel, plus prominently messaging inside stadiums.

Manchester City's Raheem Sterling said it was a "massive step" that players took a knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement on the opening night of the Premier League's return.

Players and staff from Leicester City, Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Manchester City, Arsenal and more knelt as their matches began.

"It shows we're going in the positive direction towards eradicating racism," Kelechi Iheanacho told Baron Inc. Sports.

The Premier League returned after a 100-day hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.

And players and officials showed their support for the movement for racial equality following the death of George Floyd in the United States.

Floyd, a 46-year-old unarmed black man, died as a white police officer held a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes. His death sparked protests around the world.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: "White people should say sorry for the way we have treated black people for 400 years. I am ashamed of what we have done to black people around the world.

"It is not only in the USA where it has happened. The problem is everywhere.

"Maybe for our generation, it is too late but for the following generations, they can understand the only race is ourselves. We are human beings. It doesn't matter the colour of our skin."

Colin Kaepernick started kneeling symbolically during the pre-game national anthem in the NFL in 2016, in protest at police violence against African Americans in the United States.

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison said the moment players took a knee in the opening game of the restart was "special".

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "That touched my heart. I didn't expect that. It was magnificent. Credit to both sets of players and staff."

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright said Premier League players wearing 'Black Lives Matter' on their shirts shows the league wants to be on the right side of history.

"What the Premier League have done, is to give them the power," said Wright, who was sent racist abuse on social media last month.

Research by UK Sport and Sport England last year found that black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people accounted for just 5.2% of board members across the 130 sports organisations they fund, including the Football Association.

According to the 2011 Census, about 13% of the population of England and Wales is from a BAME background.

Watford captain Troy Deeney has thanked the Premier League for giving the Black Lives Matter campaign such a high-profile platform.

Deeney told Sky Sports News: “We have to thank the Premier League for giving the players the opportunity to speak, a platform, and they are side by side with us.

“I’ve been in a lot of meetings and I’m very grateful to them for that, but now I feel there’s a lot of pressure on the media and players to keep the conversation going and keep it in the public domain.

“We’ve seen before with other campaigns, like Kick It Out, they’re very much (talking about it) one week and you don’t hear anything about it for the rest of the year.

“We want to make sure this conversation continues.” Wilfred Ndidi said.

The Black Lives Matter protests, sparked by the death of George Floyd in the United States last month, have been given prominence in English football.

I am from igbooye and reside at odoragunshin, both in Eredo  LCDA, EPE.

Niyi Saliu was Managing Director of Accentril Global Services Limited, a reputable Logistics firm in Lagos. He also sat on the boards of Commodities & Financial Services Limited and Boston Advisory Limited. Prior to joining Accentril.
Niyi worked in the Institution's Division of BGL Securities Limited as Divisional Head. At BGL, he was responsible for fixed income transactions - origination and execution, business development with pension fund administrators, insurance companies, fund managers, hedge funds, and other institutional clients He has over 18years of professional Insurance, Logistics, and Investment banking experience. He has a master's degree in Managerial Psychology from the University of Lagos. He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, he is also a Certified Management Consultant from the Chartered Institute of Management Consultants (CIMC) Canada.
He was elected and assumed office as Chairman, Eredo LCDA on July 25th, 2017.

Yes, I am happily married with kids and family is everything. I'm very lucky to have a great support system that understands the nature of my work and the true meaning of service. This helps me achieve the right balance needed to work both fronts to safety.

To deliver more dividends of democracy to the good people of Eredo LCDA while serving my second term in office by the grace of god

11.  has the coronavirus affected any of your plans to the people of eredo?

The pandemic has affected everything and everyone in the whole world as well as some of our plans and projects for this year. However, we are still working. The reliefs we give out to residents of the LCDA from time to time during this pandemic is part of the work aimed at improving the standard of living of our people.

12.  what and what did you do to reduce the hunger rate in eredo during the lockdown?

We provided over 2,500 relief packages especially food items - rice, beans, garri, pepper etc.to residents with particular attention to the aged, widows, orphans, physically challenged, nursing mothers, and pregnant women. we collaborated with various non-governmental organizations that supported us. other useful materials such as hand sanitizers, face masks, hand wash, and tissue were given out accompanied by sensitization on their use and the need to maintain great hygiene.

13.   As the man of the people, do you support girl child education?

Yes, I do because the benefits are numerous and will be beneficial to society at large. There is a saying which goes “train a woman, build a nation". We, therefore, take this very seriously.

14.   what are you presently working on to improve the development of eredo?

We are working on life-enriching and impacting projects such as:
-roads network
- School renovations &construction (where necessary)
- Market building
- Health facilities upgrade 
- Provision of solar lights etc.
