Europa League Tips: Thursday 22nd October

Europa League TipsI followed up an excellent bunch of football tips for the Champions League last week with three out of four in the Europa League to post another very solid profit.

Last time around we landed:

Liverpool v FC Sion – Both Teams to score at 23/20
AS Monaco v Totteham – 12/5 on the draw
Besiktas v Sporting Lisbon – 5/2 on the draw
So as you can see, it was a pretty profitable couple of days for me followed up with some tasty tips romping home in the following weekend’s league fixtures too.

After the opening two games the Europa League reaches a critical stage now with the next two games likely to play a pivotal role in deciding who stands a chance of qualifying and who does not.

Here are my football tips for this Thursday:

Europa League Tips & Predictions

AZ67 Alkmaar v Augsburg
This is one of those games that a little research will hopefully pay off for. Augsburg are struggling this season. After surprisingly clinching a Europa League place, they sit second bottom of the Bundesliga and have lost both their opening Europa League games so far.

AZ Alkmaar in contrast started the season well in the Eredivisie in Holland, but have lost a little form in recent weeks, however after losing their opening game away in Belgrade, they bounced back with a super 2-1 home win over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League last time out.

All the pointers suggest that this is a game that the home team can feel very comfortable with their chances of winning, so I have to say I was stunned when I saw that you could get 19/10 on AZ Alkmaar winning the match.

I would be very surprised if the Dutch side are that short come kick off time so if you are thinking of having a flutter on this, my advice is to take the price as soon as possible before it shortens in the run up to the game, as I am certain it will.

I’m backing AZ to win at best odds 19/10 (2.90) with Betvictor for a 1pt stake.

Anderlecht v Tottenham Hotspurs
Perhaps the most famous clash between these two teams came way back in 1984, when Tottenham defeated Anderlecht on penalties, with reserve keeper Tony Parks becoming the hero saving the penalty which earned Tottenham the UEFA Cup, which became the Europa League.

Both teams have rarely come close in Europe to repeating that success of the mid 1980s and it will be two very different teams that take to the pitch in the Constant Vanden Stock stadium in Brussels on Thursday.

Spurs lead Group J with four points from their two games, while Anderlecht have only picked up a point from a home draw with Monaco, losing their other game away to Qarabag somewhat surprisingly.

Having earned a point from their trip to Monaco last time out, Tottenham will be confident that they can produce another solid defensive display here against a team that lacks the strong attacking players their French opponents had last time around.

While you can make a case for a draw at 5/2 here I think Tottenham are a solid bet to take all three points here and cement their place at the top of the group, you can get that bet at 7/5.

However my bet here is to back Harry Kane to score at any time for Spurs, which is available at 13/8 (2.63) with Bet365 for another 1pt stake.

FC Midtjylland v Napoli
I was really hoping this team wouldn’t offer me a decent bet this week as they are a nightmare to spell correctly, but unfortunately when it comes to the later kick offs on Thursday night’s games, I think this match up offers punters great value.

The clash sees the two teams with 100% records in Group D clash in Denmark and it is worth remembering that Midtjylland did put out Southampton in the play off stage 2-1 on aggregate, so this is a team that can perform well against the bigger sides.

They’ve already shown that in Europe this season with a 3-1 away win against Club Brugge in Belgium and a 1-0 home win over Legia Warsaw. Napoli though have been imperious, winning 5-0 at home to Club Brugge and then following that up with a fine 2-0 away win in Warsaw.

The Italian side are packed with class including the likes of Marek Hamsik and Gonzalo Higuain and it is difficult to see that no matter how solid the Danish side are as a team, that they could keep a very strong Napoli strike force quiet for 90 minutes.

I didn’t expect to find Napoli better than even money anywhere for this match but I’m still going to take Napoli to win at best odds 10/11 (1.91) with Betfred (1pt stake) as I think that this is a very good value bet for the first of Thursday night’s later match ups.

Liverpool v Rubin Kazan
It is going to be an emotionally charged atmosphere at Anfield given that it will be the first time that new manager Jurgen Klopp gets to send his team out in front of the home fans. After a creditable 0-0 draw at Tottenham last weekend, Reds fans will be hoping the team can push on after two draws in their opening games against Bordeaux and Sion and claim three points here.

Against them stand a Rubin Kazan team that managed a 0-0 draw at home to Bordeaux last time around which followed on from a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Sion. Kazan are a team with Champions League experience too so this will be no easy evening for Klopp’s men.

Indeed the reason I picked this game is not that I am convinced Liverpool will run out winners here. I’m not convinced they will but I do think they will score and with Adam Lallana a 3/1 shot with Bet365 to score at anytime in the game, I think that’s a great bet.

Lallana has been on target twice already in the Europa League for Liverpool and with their striking options severely limited, I think the England man will be asked to provide a cutting edge further forward as he has in Europe already this season.

If Liverpool are to win here, they’ll need goals and it seems Lallana in Europe, is the man for the task. I’m backing Lallana to score anytime at 3/1 (4.0) with Bet365 (1pt stake).
