America just finds it hard to compete on a level playing field because in the hinterlands across the north, it is Chinese businessmen who are willing to enter those places to purchase mines. Should they be driven out, many of those mines would become idle, as no one else would buy the mines from the artisanal miners. The same thing happens in Namibia. A referendum would involve representatives in the house of assembly and a general vote and I do not think this has been done yet. For protests, yes, Endsars comes to mind even though it wasn't an explicit call for restructuring same as all the fuel hike protests held during Jonathan's regime.

Maybe that should be the conversation we should be having now. What do we really want and how do we go about it? A dissolution into separate tiny states? Or a united one but with lesser power in the center and more in states or regions?
