Last two weeks ago, my mechanic worked on my crankshaft..and since then I have been experiencing occasional misfires and loss of power and poor mileage on my car..Toyota corolla 2009, I called his attention to these issues but he insisted I should continue driving and after sometimes everything will normalised..

Checked engine light and maint light kept popping on my dashboard..

Error codes are: P0015 and p0012

Pls auto gurus in house pls i need assistance on what to do..

There can only be two things wrong here.

1. Your mechanic did not set the timing correctly. He needs to check the timing position of the three timing marks correlation with the timing chain. If Off Mark, even if its by one tooth on the timing gear, its inevitable for the fault you are experiencing to be present hence the fault code diagnosed and the erratic engine performance especially on idle.

2. The Valve Timing Control component on the Inlet camshaft sprocket has been welded or held in a fixed position by our "local" mechanics thus inhibiting the valve control operations of advancing and retarding of the engine timing. They (some illiterate mechanics) usually set the timing this way simply because they dont know the correct procedure. If the VVTi sprocket has been welded or in a fixed position then you must have to replace the entire sprocket.

Follow the analysis above and also supervise the checking process by an independent mechanic with knowledge of valve timing setting procedures.

Priced at 19k
I like it cos of the low mileage
Has better miles per gallon 24/33

Rav4 is 76k miles
Priced at 19k too
I like it since it's an small SUV.
Poor miles per gallon 23/30

Typical transmission issues on Honda cars. OBD scan should first be done before proceeding on any repairs but first check for loose wiring in the engine bay especially connectors to gearbox electrical components to see if connectors may be loose or wires cut or damaged.

Ive encountered this a lot of times. Service the throttle body as per what they call the "INJECTOR MOUTH". Pay close attention to the Automatic Choke control on the throttle body and observe if stuck. Use carburetor cleaner and to clean and loosen all all movable components in the choke control and refit. (This job can only be done by a professional so be carefully guided)

At a point in time possibly, a job on the cylinder head was done and im pretty sure the engine timing wasn't set correctly. (Possibly off timing on one tooth on the camshaft gear). Get a good mechanic to rest the timing. Period.

I doubt if she was fully prepared for all this.
