Who's a BUILDER?A builder is a trained professional who having undergone d pre-requisite academic & on-the -job practical trainings is vested with the knowledge to undertake building production managemt,production of quality mgt plan,health & safety plans etc & in harmonizing various inputs of other built environmt professionals to achieve a final output called BUILDING(for human habitation-private or industrial use).
Therefore,not every person involved in a construction site is a builder or engineer, also not every ENGINEER is qualified 2 near a building site because Engineering has various branches may be electrical,mechanical,chemical,petroleum, then civil engineering.If Civil Engineering must be a civil/structural engineer not civil/highway Engr,civil/water resources Engr nor civil/geotechical engr.
My submmission is in a Building construction, the Architect draws the bldg plans, the civil/structural engr designs the structural components(slabs,columns,beams,foundation designs etc),the Quantity surveyor(Qs) estimate the cost of building d structure etc, the registered Builder(not a contractor because a contractor can be a biz man or politician) is d person who assembles all these inputs frm these professionals & produces the building conforming to all specification.
Conclusively,it is only when we come 2 d understanding dt there's division of labor in d building process & ensure dt mason,carpenter etc are nt awarded titles of builders & Engrs and then enact the bill currently in national assembly by passing into law "THE NATIONAL BUILDING CODE" like other advanced nations will the issue of incessant bldg collapse be nept in d bud, but if we allow & continue patronising quackery then human life will continue to be jeopardized.
.....FELLOW NIGERIANS LETS SAY NO TO QUACKERY & ALLOW ONLY SQUARE PEG 2 BE IN D SQUARE HOLE.

Is high time the National Building Code (NBC) should be passed into law by our law makers so that the professionals will be held responsible for issues of this type,which i believe will never easily occur again. Developed nations are using it thus it abolishes quackery with severe penalties,in law court only trained lawyers solicit or judges cases,in hospitals trained Doctors/Nurses handle cases,therefore in the built environment let the professionals do the think tank & lets avoid cutting corners thinking its cheaper.Here, everybody is called Engineer cos uve worked in one site or the other even masons & bricklayer who never went thru apprenticeship.I rest my case,over the Akwa Ibom state Govt to enact sustainable laws.
