Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has blamed the precarious financial health on the alleged fraudulent activities of political appointees, senior staff of ministries and parastatals, as well as local government workers.
Chief Okorocha’s position was made known via a Government House press statement signed by the Governors’ Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, as fear of serious labour crisis looms in the state.

“The internally generated revenue of the state government is about the least in Nigeria, as a result of fraudulent activities of the political appointees, senior staff of ministries, parastatals and local government workers. My administration will deal ruthlessly with anybody caught in the act”Okorocha warned.
The Governor surreptitiously indicted his administration as he claimed that his government has been paying salaries to ghost workers and dead people.

“On my tours to some of the government establishments and parastatals, particularly the Health Management Board, I noticed with dismay that most of the workers do not come to work. It appears the state government pays wrong people salaries”, the Governor fumed.
Continuing, Okorocha recalled with grief that at some of the state general hospitals he visited, “only one nurse was on duty Ina hospital that has 14 doctors”.

Meanwhile, some civil servants, who spoke to Vanguard on the Governor’s outburst, said that he should profusely apologize to Imo people for spending public funds on ghost workers and dead people.
“How can a governor proudly announce that he has been paying ghost workers and dead people and expect us to clap for him? We are all waiting t see how the Governor will recover the money from the dead people he paid”, a civil servant said.
While describing the governor’s disclosure as laughable, a female civil servant accused Okorocha of paying ghosts while the living are sick, hungry and famished.

The person you quoted told you the home truth and that is what it is. Stop deceiving yourself..Imo state is not an economic nor commercial state but it is very dirty..even dirtier than Aba which some of us see as the dirtiest. I have recent picture of Owerre to buttress my point. Imo state particularly Owerre filled with squalors and ikwerre-type houses has degenerated into huge garbage site littered with worst roads ever seen in the South-east. The most heinous crimes in the SE can only be found in Imo state, the rate of violent bank robberies and ritual killings in Owerre alone is enough worry you.

The only reason other Igbo states are not contributing on this thread is because you hate to hear the truth but I will always use every opportunity thrown up by you to hit you with the harsh truth. cool

Why do you guys behave like this? I remember once using a photo of green median from Owerri as an example only for people to attack me but when someone else used a scattered green median from Uyo nothing was seen as wrong. You guys better stop it for the interest of Igbo nation. Every Nigeria has every right to suggest his ideas on anything that affects any Nigerian community not to talk of fellow Igbo.

Fool, stop deceiving urself and face reality for once, imo state is actually the least developed state in the SE in all parameters and equally has the worst living condition which also can be termed 'hell' as the state has the highest poor population in the SE. The state also has the poorest residents in the SE as most of them are poorly paid civil servants. Imo state is the only SE state that does not have other Igbos from other states living in it.

These are the basis for assessing development: health, education, industrialization, overall infrastructural development across board, HDI, GDP, IGR etc. The only thing imo state had going for it before now was education but u and I knows that a neighboring SE state has overtaken them..confirm from WAEC, NECO, JAMB, Unity school, Nation school debates etc.

Which State has done what you wrote? Only God knows why you guys hate Imo State and our Governor but the truth is that all of Nigeria has the problem above and it has to do with Federal Government of Nigeria. Under Jonathans admin everything was war including investments in opposition States.

Like I wrote earlier, now Buhari is in charge we shall see what real development is. Aba already has power generation capacity instituted by Obasanjo which could not come into fruition owing to same petty politics of Jonathan era. Under Buhari all the power plants will work and all the refineries will work. It will help accelerate industrial growth in Nigeria.

As for development Imo is a fairly developed State by Nigerian standard but has a long way to go. It however is far more developed than Enugu State and hence should never be discussed like it is retrogressive when compared with Anambra or Enugu where people live in hell.
