Kalaat Béni Abbès (L-474) is a modified San Giorgio-class landing platform/dock (LPD), built in Italy for the Algerian National Navy. Commissioned 4 September, 2014, Abbès is 142.9m (469 feet) long, displacing 8,800 tons, and can carry six agustawestland super lynx helicopters, six landing craft, two commando fast boats, fifteen tanks, and 440 troops, with a fully functional on board hospital.
Equipped with EMPAR (European Multifunction Phased Array Radar) and ATHENA® CMS Combat Management Systems , and Elettronica Group ECM / ESM countermeasures suite.
Defensive armament is a 76mm Oto Melara Super Rapid cannon with Vulcano guided ammunition , two 25mm/80 rapid fire cannons, and eight-cell SYLVER A-70 VLS for 16 Aster 15 surface to air missile .
