Christianity EtcBreakaway Catholic Group Accuses Pope Of Spreading Errors by Chibuike56(op): 10:24pm On Jul 06, 2016
A breakaway traditionalist Catholic group accused Pope Francis on Wednesday of spreading confusion and errors about the faith, joining a chorus of conservative criticism over his perceived lax doctrine and emphasis on mercy at the expense of morals.
A statement from the schismatic Society of St. Pius X suggested that a new attempt at reconciliation with Rome had stalled, or that the society itself was divided over next steps and decided at least to take a hard line against Francis.
The statement, issued after a meeting of the society’s superiors, said its members weren't primarily looking for a legal resolution to their schismatic status but eager to return Catholic tradition to a church where “great and painful confusion” currently reigns.
It said errors had made their way into doctrine “that are unfortunately encouraged by a large number of pastors, including the pope himself.”
“The Society of St. Pius X prays and does penance for the pope, that he might have the strength to proclaim Catholic faith and morals in their entirety,” it said.
The late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre founded the society in 1969, opposed to the Second Vatican Council’s modernising reforms. In 1988, the Vatican excommunicated Lefebvre and four other bishops after Lefebvre consecrated them without papal consent.
Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI had made reconciling a priority, but three years of doctrinal talks collapsed in 2012. Talks resumed in 2014 and Francis met with the head of the society, Bishop Bernard Fellay, in April, signaling possible progress.
But Francis is no friend of Catholic traditionalists. He has riled them and other conservatives with a host of comments they say are sowing confusion about core church teachings on family, sex and other hot-button issues.
Francis fueled those criticisms this month during an off-the-cuff session with Rome priests and laity, where he criticised rigid readings of doctrine and suggested that he approved of pre-marital cohabitation so young couples know what they’re getting into when they marry.
“I have seen so much loyalty in these cohabitations, so much loyalty, and I’m sure that this is a true marriage, they have the grace of marriage simply because of the loyalty that they have,” he said.
Such couples, he has argued, should be accompanied by church pastors and encouraged to enter into a sacramental marriage, not shunned as people living in sin.
In its statement, the society said the resolution of its status “cannot happen without the support of a pope who concretely favors the return to sacred tradition,” but regardless it would continue working to spread the faith. (AP) PLS WHAT CAN YOU SAY
Foreign AffairsMust Read JUST IN!- Britain And Europe: A Cantankerous Relationship by Chibuike56(op): 6:54am On Jun 30, 2016
THE political uproar that saw Thursday’s decision by the majority of British voters to exit the European Union was about at the same level as the upheaval that preceded a similar referendumthat formalised Britain’s entry into Europe in 1975. The decision of Prime Minister David Cameron to resign as leader of the Conservative Party and as such, prime minister, bears a parallel to the rebellion that Prime Minister Harold Wilson faced in the days leading to the referendum on the ratification of British membership of the EEC in 1975.
Just as with the 2016 referendum, the 1975 referendum was the first time in modern history that the historical mantra of collective cabinet responsibility was ditched as senior leaders of the then ruling Labour Party took to opposite sides in the campaign on ratifying the membership of the EEC. Indeed, the story of Britain and Europe has been one of mutual suspicion undoubtedly flamed by the historical rivalry between the engine drivers of the EU and Britain. At the end of the Second World War, the momentum towards unifying Europe through trade linkages led to the formation of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951 with France, Italy, West Germany and the Benelux countries, namely, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg as members.
Improved production
Britain at that time preoccupied with its devotions to the Commonwealth, and also increasingly looking west towards the United States, refused to join, though it was invited. The ECSC helped to create a common market for coal and later for steel. The benefit of the ECSC was seen in improved production of steel, a vital component of post-war technological advancement. That led the member countries towards talks on a common market for all goods. This was agreed in March 1957 with the Treaty of Rome which gave birth to the European Economic Community, EEC, which formally took effect on January 1, 1958. It was about this time that British consideration towards Europe began to change. However, Britain’s application to join the new body was repeatedly vetoed by the French President, General Charles de Gaulle.
It was the suggestion in several quarters that the French president had a natural detestation for the British who ironically hosted him during the war years. However, Mr. de Gaulle was to explain privately that his opposition and veto of British membership of the EEC was on the logical assumption that Britain at that time could not mortgage her interests in the Commonwealth for Europe. The French veto was only removed in 1969 after de Gaulle’s exit from power when his successor Mr. Georges Pompidou gave French assent for the commencement of talks with Britain which were at that time led by Mr. Edward Heath, who remarkably took Britain into the EEC as prime minister in 1973.
In the days leading to the formal entry of Britain into the EEC, the debate on the manner of entry led to a great uproar among the political class leading to internal divisions in the two leading parties, Labour, and Conservative. Following the political rumpus that followed the entry, Prime Minister Heath of the Conservative Party called for a post entry general election in February 1974. Though his party won the majority of votes, Labour won four more parliamentary seats forcing the prime minister to call for a second election in October 1974 which was decisively won by Labour. Labour had campaigned with the promise of renegotiating the terms of British entry into the EEC and to subject the renegotiated terms to a referendum.
That promise enticed the majority of the voters in the first nationwide referendum ever called in Britain. 65% of the voters ratified Britain’s membership of the EEC and thus commenced the suspicious relationship that continued for most of the rest of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st century. At the heart of the opposition to the British presence in Europe was the fear of a federal Europe
Politics(MUST READ) Fayose: Stop Harassing Opposition Party Members – Rep Tells Buhari by Chibuike56(op): 6:21am On Jun 30, 2016
A member of the House of Representatives, Bede Eke, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressives Congress, APC-led government should stop harassing members of the opposition party and that the recent closure of the bank account belonging to governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, was uncalled for.
Eke who represents Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency of Imo State in an interview in Abuja also advised President Buhari to immediately investigate how the ruling APC generated and expended money for its campaigns in the 2015 general elections, saying that was the only way to give credibility to the fight against corruption.
The lawmaker also condemned the recent arraignment of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu over the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rules, describing the matter as an internal affairs of the senate.
According to the Ngor Okpala-born politician, freezing the bank account of governor Fayose was a complete witch-hunt because the governor has been expressing his dissatisfaction on the policies of the government of the day.
He said, “I can tell you without sounding immodest, that is witch-hunt. You don’t witch-hunt a man that says his mind all the time, he is not attacking Mr President, he is attacking his policies and the constitution protects him.
“He has that freedom of expression, he has to express his mind, he is a Nigerian, not just a Nigerian, he is a senior citizen of this country and cannot because he is always talking on the issues and policies of the government and now he is a target.
“I am not against the EFCC (Economic and Financial Finance Commission) doing its job, but as far as I am concerned, it is witch-haunting. This thing is targeted at the opposition party, PDP, not just the opposition parties but the PDP members.
“If you even look at the arrests made so far, at a time, they were instructed not to allow a governor to travel, a sitting governor not to travel out of the country, by the time that one was raised, they moved out of the area and now they have gone into freezing the account of the governor of Ekiti State.
“How can you do that, he has immunity covering him, you can investigate it and keep your records, once the investigation is concluded, you keep your records until when the man leaves office, you can clamp on him and his account, please you people should help us, are we going forward or are we moving backward.”
On the allegation that campaign fund was traced to governor Fayose’s account, he said, “Let them come and justify where they (President Buhari and APC) got their money to run their campaigns, they funded it, from where did they get the money from?”
He also frowned at the arraignment of the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President over the alleged forgery of the senate Rules, saying that nothing concerned the executive arm of government in the internal workings of the legislature.
He said, “This is an internal affair of the National Assembly, it has to do with the proceedings of the National Assembly, it has to do with rules of the National Assembly. It is not the duty of the executive to arraign or charge any member to court.
“If it feels that the rules of the house has been doctored, we have the Ethics and Privileges Committee if it is anything that borders on any member, the ethics and privileges committee is there to take on the matter, do their work and submit to the house, for the house to take a decision.
“So, I think it is quite unfair that what we are passing through now does not guarantee the separation of powers as is enshrined in our constitution.
“The court has said once it is something that has to do with the rules, it is an internal matter and no other superior court has set that judgement aside.”

JUST IN! FULL TEXT OF ENUGU GOV’S SPEECH AT THE BURIAL OF VICTIMS OF FULANI HERDSMEN ATTACK
Enugu State Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi addressed people and family members of the victims murdered by Fulani Herdsmen at Nimbo Community, present at the burial mass which took place onThursday. What he said below… Monday, the 25th of April, 2016, will ever remain a dark, sad and solemn day in the memory of the people of Enugu State and indeed Nigerians at large. It was on that day that our brothers and sisters, whose remains are lying here before us, were ambushed and murdered in cold blood and in their own land. Having done all that was needful including attending to the injured and the displaced, we have assembled here, in tears and in grief, to bury the dead and bid their innocent souls a final farewell. Though our emotions cannot restore them to life, we find solace in the fact that the whole world had stood by us and offered us sympathy and solidarity, ever since the incident that took their lives, occurred. We make bold to declare that their deaths can never be in vain and we pledge to do all that is within our legitimate means, to give them justice. Like the martyrs they have become, the spilling of their innocent blood is already saving souls as it has aroused in our people and indeed the whole nation, a burning impulse to do all that is necessary to prevent the future occurrence of similar incidents anywhere in the country. Shortly after the attack, we had called for fasting and prayers and we must declare that the God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of
Jacob, and awesome God of David, has not failed us but has continued to show us His mercies. For, even as we await the outcome of the judicial panel of Inquiry that we have constituted to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, we received news that five people, who are suspected to have participated in the attack, had been arrested by the police and paraded before the whole world. We use this occasion therefore to once again, express our gratitude to the generality of Nigerians who put aside religious, ethnic and political differences, to offer us their hands of support and sympathy after the killings. We thank the Federal Government and the security agencies for the steps they are taking to prevent future occurrences and address the issues that led to the incident. We thank the people of Enugu State for their restraint and for the confidence they placed in our ability as a Government to deal with the matter in a mature and responsible manner. Finally, we wish to thank the elders and stakeholders of Enugu State, Traditional Rulers, Members of the State and National Assemblies, members of the clergy and indeed everyone who found time to be here today as we send forth our brothers and sisters, to eternity and immortality. May their souls rest in the peace. Amen. Thank you all and God bless.

Indications emerged Friday that the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, John Gaul-Lebo, might soon be impeached.
This came following the crisis that has hit the House.
Punch reports that majority of the lawmakers are aggrieved over the prolonged non-payment of their entitlements.
The aggrieved lawmakers had four days back threatened to impeach the speaker over the development.
Report says majority of the legislators are angry that after one year in office, they had yet to get their official cars, housing and wardrobe allowances, as well as other entitlements.

One of the aggrieved members said his colleagues were also worried over the inability of the House to sit and carry out constitutional duties due to lack of diesel and unavailability of facilities to run the legislature.
“Beyond all the grievances listed above, we do not sit regularly due to lack of electricity and office facilities to ease the business. It is a serious matter,” he said.
An insider said about 11 lawmakers, allegedly led by the lawmaker representing Ikom 2 State Constituency, Mr. Simon Nkoro, were already shopping for signatures to make up 2/3 of the 25 lawmakers in the House in order to impeach the Speaker.
Most of the lawmakers said to be in support of the impeachment, according to the source, further include members representing Calabar Municipality, Bakassi, Odukpani, Obudu, Akamkpa I and II and Calabar South II constituencies.
Reacting to the development, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Nelson Ofem, confirmed that there was “discontent” in the House.
He, however, said that no impeachment notice had been served the Speaker.
Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Azogor Ideba, said, “There is no problem in the house, a few members cannot just wake up and impeach the Speaker.”

Boko Haram kills 18 women during funeral ceremony, sets houses on fire in Adamawa
18 women have been reportedly shot dead by the Boko Haram sect at a funeral in Kuda village of Adamawa State, north-east Nigeria.
The Islamic extremists were said to be rampaging through the village, setting houses on fire and shooting at random, witnesses and local government officials said on Friday.
The attack occurred at about 5 p.m. on Thursday in the village of Kuda in Adamawa State.
A resident of the village, who gave his name as Moses Kwagh told Reuters that people waited until three hours after the attack and had then counted 18 women’s bodies.
He said some women were still missing.
A police source confirmed the attack but said it was not yet clear how many people had been killed.
State lawmaker, Emmanuel Tsamdu said, “I am yet to get the details on how it happened and the real number of people killed. I have sent hunters to go to the area and get me the details because people are afraid to go to the village.”
The village which is said to very close to the Sambisa Forest, was attacked by Boko Haram militants in February.
Though most villages in the north east have been recaptured by the Nigerian troop, Boko Haram still regularly stages guerrilla attacks.
Kwagh said, “When we said that Boko Haram is still in this place some people sit in Abuja and claim that there is no more Boko Haram, but see what has happen.” FOR More visit star media baseblogspot.com

Worried by the recent skyrocketing prices of food stuff in the Nigerian market lately, the Sultan of Sokoto and president-general, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSICA), has called on the federal government to rescind the ban on rice importation.for more agricultural news like improve agriculture at facebook. The sultan, who made the appeal when the controller general of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Ali, paid him a courtesy visit, added that the present government came to power on the goodwill of the common man and that goodwill should be maintained.
The respected monarch added that Nigerians should continue to pray for peace and stability even as he stressed that all leaders’ priority is to serve their subjects right.
“The sultan’s palace is a home for all, be you a Christian, Buddhist, Jewish or Muslim. All leaders have one goal and that is to serve our creator through serving the people. As traditional leaders, we advise government, to the best of our ability, to work for the interest of the our people though we don’t implement policies,” he said.
While reminding the federal government on how Nigerians are suffering, especially as it relates to the ban on importation of rice through the land boarder, the sultan lamented that change does not have to be until the people are dead.
“There has been a lot of cries and comments, all on the pains the government is causing the people.Policies are meant to strengthen governance, but policies sometimes could be revisited when complains are becoming more. We continue to tell the common man to be patient that change is not easy, but the change does not have to come when people are dying of hunger. Let’s try to make amends on the closing of land boarders and try to get it right,” he urged.for more like improve agriculture page at facebook.

FG Urged To Implement Insurance Scheme For Farmers To Boost Food Production
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)— Jun 15, 2016 12:38 pm| Leave a comment
A financial expert on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to implement a workable insurance scheme for farmers to boost food production and ultimately reduce inflation.
Mr Emmanuel Eze, Chief Executive Officer, Perfecter Investment Trust, a Lagos-based stockbroking firm, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the scheme was capable of reducing famers’ risk.
Eze said that majority of farmers were afraid to go into large scale farming for fear of the unknown, while most insurance firms shied away from insuring certain farm produce.
He restated that inflation could be reduced to a single digit in no distant time if the Federal Government invested more in agriculture, packaging and manufacturing sectors.
The financial expert spoke against the backdrop of the country’s rising inflation rate from 13.7 per cent in April to 15.6 per cent in May.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that the rise was due to the overall rise in general price level across all sectors.
It said that in May, the highest increases were seen in road transport, kerosene, petrol and lubricants and vehicle spare parts due to the hiked pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N87 to N145 per litre.
Eze said that increased domestic output was sacrosanct to create a surplus and drive down prices.for more news like improve agriculture page at facebook.
He noted that the government needed to encourage more Nigerians to build new refineries to reduce the demand pressure on foreign exchange for importation of refined petroleum products.
He added that all the tiers of government must invest more in the agricultural sector to ensure abundance of agricultural commodities to reduce their scarcity.for more like improve agriculture pagge at facebook.

Fayose has money to pay three months salaries – Former Ekiti Commissioner
A former Commissioner for Finance in Ekiti State, Mr Dapo Kolawole, has slammed the state governor, Ayo Faylae over his inability to pay civilservants’ salaries.
Kolawole said Fayose had money that could offset three months salaries.
The ex-Commissioner for finance in the state between 2010 and 2014, said if the state’s resources were properly managed, the state wouldn’t be in the present economic mess.Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Kolawole noted that despite the economic downturn in the country, Ekiti State could still afford to pay three months workers salaries, thereby reducing the economic crisis that has crippled the state.
Kolawole said the state could still pay the salaries of workers from money the government had received in form of refunds and palliatives in the last few months, if the administration in the state was sincere.
Specifically, Kolawole challenged Fayose to explain why he was owing local government workers, despite the fact that the local government fund comes directly from the federation account.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! SEVEN MINISTERS SET TO QUIT BUHARI’S GOVERNMENT SAY ”THIS GOVERNMENT IS UNSERIOUS”
NewsDay has obtained the information that at least seven ministers may soon leave President Muhammadu Buhari cabinet because of the severe position of the incumbent government. The affected ministers arereportedly not satisfied with the N4 million approved by President Buhari as their yearly accommodation allowance as they have not been able to rent any meaningful house in Abuja. One of the political aides to the ministers noted that the austerity was becoming so unbearable that most Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) have been made to cut down on their continual expenditure such as local travels and the purchase of newspapers for the different units in the headquarters of the ministry. He said: “Do you know that we no longer buy ‘plenty” of newspapers as before? We just buy a few copies which are sent to the minister’s office. It is after he has finished reading, that the papers would be sent to other offices. “Also , we no longer travel with Oga on some of these trips because there is no money . These days , if he is travelling, he goes with just a few persons , mainly security and protocol officials. It is from these guys that we get to know where they are and what is happening at any point in time .”
According to another source, the ministers demanded a N20 million grant each to enable them settle down in Abuja. However, this request was turned down by President Buhari who saw the amount as ‘unreasonably high’ in view of the state of the economy. Therefore, a number of the ministers have been “technically stranded” on the issue of accommodation. “One of the ministers who once served as a Commissioner in one of the SouthWest states has been squatting in one of the mansions belonging to his political godfather and chieftain of the ruling party”, the source added. ThisDay carried out a survey, that showed that a four to five-bedroom detached house in Wuse II, Abuja, goes for anywhere between N8 million to N10 million per year. The price is almost the same in Gwarinpa Phase 1 and Utako, Abuja, while a four-bedroom detached house in Maitama or Asokoro goes for between N10 million and N15 million per year. There were reports that one of the serving ministers is probed by the anti-corruption agency. President Buhari’s newly-appointed ministers were said to earn same remuneration as those of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan. The incumbent government many times restated its commitment to cut the cost of governance. For more vist star media baseblogspot.com

Mr. Ugwu, who made this call at the school’s 6th annual inter- house sports competition held recently in Lagos, said that, JAMB is yet to be fully competent onComputer-Based Test, CBT, system. “If they can go back to the drawing board and improve on their network system, it will raise the nation’s education standard, but until then, they need to revert to pen and pencil,” he said.
He noted that “if JAMB can improve on CBT, let them do it. This same complaint was heard last year and is still repeating itself. They are still finding it difficult. A computer literate person won’t find it difficult but others will.”
On his view on the nation’s education system, he stated that “there is a lot that has to be done. The state of our education system is giving us sleepless nights. Government has a lot to contribute. My children wrote the just-concluded exam, one of them got a particular result, but was later sent another, they scored him 99, later we got another alert and they gave him 239.”
Also speaking at the event, Principal, Mavir Leaders College, Mr. Ewetayo Oluwafemi said the Federal Govt should show more commitment. “They should empower private schools; it shouldn’t be all about private schools paying levy. We are partners in progress. Government should encourage an environment such that we can develop these children to remain committed to their studies.”
