Ukraine’s audacious move
Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said Ukraine’s incursion had in places advanced 35km inside Russia, taking control of 1,293 square kilometres (500 square miles) on Tuesday, versus 1,000sq km (386sq miles) a week earlier, and 93 settlements, versus 74 the week before.

The ISW on Saturday estimated the contested area in Kursk at 28km (17 miles) deep and 56km (35 miles) wide.

The ISW also assessed that Russian forces had occupied 1,175sq km. (454sq miles) of Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the year.

If accurate, this means Ukraine has captured more Russian land in a fortnight than Russia had captured in Ukraine in eight months.
The capture of 19 Russian settlements in the past week is a tempo unmatched by Russian forces still on the offensive in east Ukraine, who made several marginal advances.

Four RUSI experts who recently visited Kyiv also believed Ukraine was preparing the ground for possible negotiations with Moscow.

“Experience teaches us that Russia only negotiates in good faith when it is placed under pressure, and negotiation is the only option,” they quoted Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba as telling them.

The experts called on Ukraine’s Western allies to maintain the tempo of military aid and lift restrictions on its use. The US and Germany, in particular, have set geographical limits on what their missiles may target inside Russia.

“Now is not the time to micro-manage the risk in Ukraine’s actions, hold back supplies or maintain strict caveats on the use of equipment, especially against military targets in Russian territory, out of fear that Putin might escalate, perhaps with a nuclear option.

Ukraine claimed to be using US equipment to advance its Kursk forces, including what appeared to be cluster bombs to destroy pontoon bridges, and missiles that Ukraine said had destroyed all three bridges across the Seym river in the Kursk region by Wednesday, cutting off a key Russian logistics base in Glushkovo from front-line forces.

The greatest Russian success of the past week came west of Avdiivka, a town Russia seized in February. It has since formed a salient 30km (19 miles) west of the town. Russian forces are believed to be aiming to capture Pokrovsk, 16km (10 miles) further west. In the past week, they seized Zavitne and Novozhelanne and claimed half a dozen more settlements, whose capture remained unconfirmed.

In Izmir, Turkey, forest fires have spread to residential houses. Already 16 houses have burned down. According to local media, 87 houses have already been evacuated due to the danger of fire.
A forest fire that began Thursday evening in Türkiye's western Izmir province area has rapidly spread due to strong winds, prompting evacuations and extensive firefighting efforts across several districts in the province.

Evacuations were ordered in several neighborhoods and an animal shelter in the area was also evacuated.
Roads leading to the affected zones were closed, with gendarmerie and police enforcing security measures.

The fire reached the Ornekkoy Industrial Site, spreading to numerous businesses, including a recycling factory, marble, cable, wood processing companies, and furniture workshops.

As the wind subsided in the afternoon, helicopters and planes resumed operations, dropping water intensely on the areas where the flames were most concentrated.

The fire continues to burn in forested areas within the boundaries of Karsiyaka, Bayrakli, and Cigli districts, affecting both residential areas and the industrial site. Thick smoke is visible from various parts of the province, and some houses and vehicles near the forests have been damaged by the spreading flames.

Israeli warplanes have flown low over the Lebanese capital once again as fears of an all-out war that could draw in Hezbollah and Iran continue to loom over the region.

The use of sonic booms is part of a broader trend of psychological warfare that Israel wages against the Lebanese population, according to Lawrence Abu Hamdan, a sound expert and the founder of Earshot, a nonprofit that conducts audio analysis to track human rights abuses and state violence.

Abu Hamdan said that since the 2006 Hezbollah-Israel war, which lasted 34 days and left 1,100 Lebanese nationals and 165 Israelis dead, Israel has routinely violated Lebanese airspace with its fighter jets to scare civilians.

Abu Hamdan believes that, since last October, Israel has also been using sonic booms as an “acoustic reminder that [Israel] can turn Lebanon into Gaza at any point”.

He said Israel’s increasing use of sonic booms reflects the escalation in conflict with Hezbollah over the past several months.

“There is an escalation and we are seeing that escalation in sound. The next phase to the escalation is, of course, material destruction,” Abu Hamdan said.

Beirut resident Rana Farhat, 28, said Israel’s scare tactics are having the desired effect. She heard the August 6 sonic booms while having dinner with her family at a restaurant in a town north of Beirut.

They were startled when they heard the sound of an explosion, but her parents tried to reassure her and her siblings that Beirut was not being attacked. Everyone quickly checked their phones to find out what was going on.

“We were all checking the news to see if it was an explosion or not,” Farhat, 28, said, while smoking shisha in a Beirut cafe on Thursday night. “There were little children in the restaurant and they were clearly scared. They don’t understand what such sounds mean.”

The only true thing that can help you is to give her maximum space and be on a look out for a new girl.

I know it sound very harsh but any effort from your side to savage the situation is going to have the opposite effect, you only have a chance if you give her maximum space and ready to move on ASAP.

This the only thing that can help you, if she didn't chase after you when you give her the space she requested for then she is not really interested in being with you as much as you want to be with her but you seem like those guys without any backbone that will try very hard to convince her which will just make her see you as a desperate loser and run away from you without looking back.

Please I really need your advice on how to go about this matter that is really eating me up. We went on a normal date with my girl whom I have proposed marriage to and she accepted it. But in recent time I have been telling her to come and see my parent but was like we are not yet ready, I don't understand it.

Today we went out and she opened up and started telling me areas of my life which she's not really comfortable with and I should improve on them. When she was done she said she needs us to slow things down for now.
