The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, Public Petitions and Code of Conduct has recommended a six-month suspension for Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, over alleged misconduct. The investigations contained in the report presented to the committee cited total violation of Senate rules. This decision reached a plenary session was announced on Thursday by the Chairman of the Senate, Senator Neda Imasuen, who read the committee’s report. The Senate committee recommended that Senator Natasha should be placed on a 6- months suspension effective from March 6, 2025. This comes amid Senator Natasha’s allegation that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio sexually harassed her in his house and at his office. However, since no legal evidence has been tendered to back up the claim of Senator Natasha in court but rather a social exposure revealed in an interview with Arise Tv, the senate said it will not probe the accused, senator Godswill Akpabio because there was no evidence. Meanwhile, the committee reached this agreement to suspend Senator because she refused to appear before the committee for a review of her conduct. Also, her refusal to comply with the sitting arrangement made in the House by the senate president fueled her case. Premuim Times reported that Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat was relocated from her original position on the second-to-last row of the minority section to the last row without her consent. She protested against the arrangement and insisted on remaining in her previous seat. This was seen as a violation of Senate rules; Section 6(1) of the Standing Rules, which

General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has made some stark revelations about Nigeria’s history after thirty-two (32) years of stepping aside from active leadership in August 1993. These histories came into light through a review of his autobiographical book entitled, ‘A Journey of Service: An Autobiography’ in Abuja today by the Vice-President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo. In the 12th chapter of the book, Babangida dedicated it to talking about the June 12 election. The political violence witnessed between the People Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun State has accentuated the persistent pattern of deadly political rivalries among parties in the struggle for power and control. These conflicts have often resulted in loss of lives and disruption of peaceful co-existence among supporters. The violence revolves around power control in fifteen (15) local government secretariats in Osun State following a Court of Appeal ruling which both PDP and APC members interpreted in their terms as each tried to claim authority over the administrative centers. Earlier, Ogun State governor Adeleke sacked the APC chairpersons elected in the areas in 2022, however, yesterday an appeal Court ruling sustained their election. Following the verdict, the APC chairpersons returned to office jubilating over their victory but their joy was short-lived as they met with opposition countering their claims as the PDP-led teams stated that the court did not restore them to power. The confrontation escalated a full-downtown crisis that resulted in the death of a former chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Mr. Aderemi Abbas, and six others as shown in reports and videos making rounds on social media. The Osun State crisis underscores the deep-seated animosity between the two major political parties in Nigeria. However, this isn’t the first occurrence of such mayhem in Nigeria, there are instances where party power tussles have led to fatalities in Nigeria.
