When we had a subsidy, goverment was borrowing large sums from year to year to pay for it. Just to pay for it. That added to our debt.

So, your petrol cost 87 naira or where we the government set it plus massive debt

The problem with subsidy is that you can budget x amount for it, then oil prices rising increase the amount you borrow in dollars to keep the subsidy in place or oil prices falling increase the amounts you print in naira to keep the subsidy in place.

Result, debt.

This does not excuse APC. Tinubu is still bad, but removal of subsidy means you are not paying for fuel with borrowed money anymore
