bigpicture001: Let this marketers rest and that why I will like. Obi for president...
He will simply place a ban on them... That was exactly how the cement industry grew... The govt of ObJ barred import to help local manufacturers...
Tinubu is supposed to do same to save the sector.. but no! He is busy with 2027 politics I don't agree in a ban being placed. It should be competitive. The marketers are terrible yet we shouldn't be reliant on a single source. |

SmartPolician: Stop distorting facts. Nobody criticised Tinubu's visit.
The criticism was about Tinubu giving them scholarship while Nigeria is the country with the highest number of out-of-school children in world. Tinubu hasn't told us what took him to a country that doesn't add value to his country.
Sensible leaders only visit countries that they gain something from - Tinubu is nowhere close to that because he's only on ego trip. This one wants to twist the narrative. Go back to the original thread here on Nairaland. Many accused the country of being a hub for drugs smuggling. . Abeg getat. |

Indians hustling abroad sent home over $129 billion to support their families and start up new businesses in their country in 2024. In Nigeria, it was $20 billion in 2024. Many top American tech companies are managed by Indians and these people send money home. India' GDP.

Mandate1: you are spot on. America is the only country that can choose to produce 90% of what theg need domestically. They only choose not to do so and source externally due to cheap labour elsewhere. China can't do this. China cannot buy from outside, dey need big buyers like the USA to survive. India will capitulate if USA sanctions dem harder. What is the purchasing power of both Russia and China to buy India produce? What do you mean? You mean Americans would suddenly want to be sewing buttons on shirts to teach the world a lesson? |

GboyegaD: It isn't an oligopoly in this case. In an oligopoly, the leading firm if any in the industry can not own that percentage of the industry. In the case of the industries I mentioned, Dangote has HHI of 3600 in 2 and 6400 in 1. That should be a great concern to our ministry of justice but in our case, we care less. Still not a monopoly. |
Politics › Re: We Are Not Against Dangote Refinery - Oil Marketers by Commentor: 7:39pm On Aug 01, 2025 |
GboyegaD: Dangote controls 60% share of Nigeria's cement market; 80% share of Nigeria's sugar market; and 60% share of Nigeria's salt market. That's too much share to control in any industry. That's not a monopoly. Cement is an Oligopoly. There would always be big players in every economy. Samsung is 13% of the entire Korean economy. Don't hate the player, hate the game. |
