I recall leaving Lagos to Kano back in 2008 onto job parole...I read about the tremendous changes under Fashola led Lagos and looked ahead to a return. The more I heard below phrases in Kano, while trying to come to terms to a return to Lagos for fear of unknown such as "distant family", "job security" and self-development, the more I became hungrier to return to Lagos regardless of the chaotic nature. Those phrases I often heard which were funny to me while settling to learn Hausa were: in brackets are d interpretation or d way it sounded to me in Yoruba. Kano was fun while it lasted. 1. Sai kin Yada ( translated to Se kin Yada in Yoruba) 2. Sai kin zoo ( Se kin so) 3. Sai ka zoo ( Se ka so) 4. Abokin su ( abokin su) 5. Abokin ka ( aboki too talk) 6. Sai ka Yi...( Se ka Yi) 7. Sai ka ji ( make we steal am in Yoruba) 8. Sai kin ji. Kano was fun while it lasted... |
