CultureRe: Ooni Of Ife Warns Against Distortion Of Yoruba History by CoolFlame(m): 12:04pm On Dec 11, 2013
mikeapollo: Please, keep quiet if you dont lnow Yoruba history.. The Ooni is far far ahead of Alaafin. Hostorically and culturally, several Yoruba tradtional rulers were originally far senior and ahead of Alaafin.

Alaafin was only given more prominence and relevance by the British colonial masters because Oyo had the strongest military might among the Yoruba at the tme coupled with well organised administration....

Oyo Kingdom was established by Oranmiyan, who left Ife to Benin, and later to Oyo. Even after he died....Oranmiyan's corpse was returned to Ife for burial and his mystical staff(Opa Oranmiyan) still stands in Ife till date.

Alaafin's re;evance is a creation of politics....Ooni is the spiritual leader and numero-uno among the Yoruba Obas.
Wow, u are a perfect example of one who has no inkling about his history. Try and read more and ask questions. Alaafin is a descendant of Oranmiyan. Oranmiyan was the ruler of Ife then, but he left to settle a matter in Ibini(now Benin) and instead of returning to Ife, he created a new settlement which he named Oyo under directives of the gods. Before he left Ife, a regent was elected. This regent is the ancestor of Ooni of Ife. Oranyan didn't av a son in Ife so the kingship was retained by the Ooni and his descendants. But the seat of government was later moved to Oyo from Ife by Sango, Oranmiyan's second son. Bro please read more about this to confirm.

twosquare: Either Ooni or Alaafin of Oyo...None is superior to the other and we all must understand this....these kings needs to put sentiments aside and do away with their differences
Alaafin is superior heritage-wise. Ile-Ife is more important historically than Oyo but Alaafin is a direct descendant of Oduduwa whereas Ooni isn't. Though i do agree both kings have a great role to play in preserving our cultural heritage.
