Image123: You can forgive and forget though it's not a requirement to forget, but sometimes it MAY be safer for you mentally. It takes some prayer and genuinely loving the person. This is important especially if the person is very close to you like a family member or has become close to you via circumstances. immortalcrown: It is good, necessary and godly to forgive.
It is bad, foolish and ungodly to forget.
Even the Bible that says God can forgive our sins does not claim that God will forget our sins.
Feeling resentment towards a sinner/offender is a different case. That one is a temptation to retaliate. So, try to resist the temptation. The occurrence of the temptation in your mind is not a sin, fulfilling (falling into) the temptation is what makes you a sinner. Thanks so much for taking time to answer this question...it is much appreciated and we do not take it for granted. May God bless you real Good. paxonel: Living immoral life is not the same as a life without Christ, and a life with Christ does not implies a moral life.
There are people living in Christ that are living terribly in crises, it does not change the fact that they are in Christ. and there are even Muslims whose lives are not in Christ that are doing very well without crises.
So stop scamming people. I accept the correction Paxel, much appreciated but the choice of word about "SCAMMING PEOPLE" , i'm not sure that a right choice of word, you know? |

Christianity Etc › Re: What Does The Bible Say About Gambling? Is It Really A Sin? - WorthyAsk by CoolJason(op): 1:06pm On Aug 22, 2024 |
armchairscholar: The Bible does not explicitly condemn gambling as a sin. But it does caution us against the dangers of excess and the importance of responsible stewardship.
In 1 Timothy 6:10, we read, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains." This verse reminds us that when we prioritize material wealth and chance over our relationship with God, we risk losing sight of what truly matters.
As a Christian, it's essential to approach gambling with prudence and discernment. Ask yourself: Am I using my resources wisely? Am I putting my faith in chance rather than in God's providence? Am I harming others or myself through my actions?
Our ultimate goal is to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). If your participation in gambling is hindering your spiritual growth or causing harm to yourself or others, it's wise to reassess your involvement.
But don't worry – you are not doomed to hell for having gambled. God's mercy is boundless, and He invites us to seek forgiveness and guidance whenever we stumble. Come to Him with an open heart, and He will show you the path forward. Thanks for your answer Jason. Much appreciated |

achorladey: You remember some people dragging issues regarding eating foods sacrificed to idols in Corinthians.
Paul didn't come with hammer and say
Haaaaaa, idolatry is part of the the ten commandment and No, don't even go near it blah blah blah blah
Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. 2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. 3 But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes. 4So, what about eating meat that has been offered to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god and that there is only one God. 5 There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords.
So you see Paul didn't bring the hammer down and outrightly say what they are doing is a sin.
Whether one ate or did not eat would not depend, therefore, upon law and concern over being found guilty of violating law. It would depend upon love and concern not to harm one’s brother “for whom Christ died”—truly a superior approach that caused the Christian to reveal what was in his heart, not simply his compliance with a rule. That same counsel demonstrates as well that the apostle did not look upon the decision reached by apostles and others in Jerusalem (recorded in Acts chapter fifteen) as being “law.” Had it been law, Paul would never have written as he did to Christians in Corinth, stating frankly that the eating of meats offered to idols was a matter of conscience, with the determining factor being whether the eating would cause others to stumble or not

achorladey: Let me use the below to help your thought process about it....
Law often produces an outward conformity that masks what people are inside. In Jesus’ day, it allowed religious leaders, by their scrupulous ‘living by the rules,’ to “appear to people from the outside like good honest men, but inside be full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” It works the same in our time. Law, then, is least effective in those areas that are most intimately related to the heart.
Law can identify and punish a thief. But it cannot do the same for the man who is law-abiding, but who is also greedy, and whose greed and stinginess cause others to suffer. Law can condemn and even execute the murderer. But it can do little to prosecute the man who hates, who harbors jealousy, envy or rancor and who seeks revenge—particularly if he is careful to do so by “legitimate” means.
No law that makes gambling a sin in the Bible. The laws of the land protect the agancies involved and doing it under the stipulated regulations.
When people see it as legitimate means to make money because some the gambling agancies are backed by laws of the land[/b, it is the person own [b]heart that will pinch him or her when they are going towards the realms of greediness and convetousness as they go on gambling. Thanks for making effort to explain further...much appreciated |

achorladey: You won't see a direct verse saying gambling is a sin.....
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” But i feel like MOST people who gamble are just unemployed individuals trying to make a living for themselves to pay their daily and monthly bills. |

WeirdAlien: But the real advice to any Christian is in this: Stop thinking about sin or what is it or not, it only gives it more power. Make the Holy Ghost your companion, He will guide your daily life such that you don't fall into sin or stay in it. Thanks for the contribution...i very much appreciate it but its just that this was a major topic of contention in our Tuesday bible study at one of the parishes of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) here in South Africa and we never really arrived at a concrete conclusion due to time constraint and i'm also sure so many people seek answers to this question worldwide. |
Christianity Etc › Re: What Does The Bible Say About Gambling? Is It Really A Sin? - WorthyAsk by CoolJason(op): 11:24am On Aug 19, 2024 |
WeirdAlien: Sin is one or combination of any of these: * Harm to oneself * Harm to others * Harm to God
If gambling is harming you, your family or the Holy Spirit advised you to stop, then it becomes sin.
To say gambling is sin absolutely, then you should also seriously consider Forex trading and stock market as sins. They all involve predictions based on historical information and permutations. Thanks for the response...much appreciated. |
