The National Youth service Corps management just lost a dear mother, Mrs. O.O Ahile the state Coordinator of NYSC in Kogi state to a fatal car accident.

She died in a Ghastly Motor accident on Lafia – MKD Road. This is really a great loss that can never be recovered because the woman is really a mother. Everybody loves her and she has not been acting as a state coordinator alone, she has been acting as a mother.

Corp members serving in Kogi and ex corpers who knew her will really miss her because shes a woman many Corpers has taken to be their godmother.

Some say she makes camp home away from home because of her motherly interaction with them. Some refer to her as the “The most humble Mama ever”.

Someone said “much love for you Mama Mia. Your Passion and Leadership is an inspiration to many of us.” And many other good things are said about her. We will all miss her.

May her soul rest in peace

Now that the NYSC Official timetable is out and we now have the date and how the programmes will go for this batch, it is time for every 2019 Batch B PCMs to connect, discuss, meet, share information and hook up right here on our great Nairaland.

NYSC registration will start on the 27th of this month and while only a few institutions already released their Senate list, some are still compiling and working on theirs.

The NYSC 2018 Batch B Passing Out Date is exactly the day every NYSC 2018 Batch B corps members will be given their NYSC certificate so as to move on with their lives. After the 11 months NYSC service year, all Corps members who have carried out their primary assignment diligently will be honorably discharged.

The Lagos State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mohammed Momoh, has said the federal government is yet to release a circular ordering the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage for corps members.

Former NYSC Director General, Suleiman Kazaure, had assured that there would be an increase in the payment for corps members in accordance with the increment in national workers’ wage.

The federal government in April 2019 had approved the N30,000 minimum wage for workers in the country by signing it into law. But the law is yet to be implemented by the NYSC, in the payment of corps members.

Reacting to this, Momoh in an interview with TVC News said the service is waiting for the federal government to give it the go ahead to begin the implementation of the new law.

“The effective date of implementation would be stated on the circular and any corps member that falls within that said period and is qualified for the monthly allowance would benefit from the increase if and when the implementation starts.

“Corps members are Nigerians and it is only expected that they would benefit from the increase. At the appropriate time, the federal government would fix the allowance for corps members. This would then be made public by the NYSC.

“I have no doubt that the federal government would do the needful in accordance with the minimum wage.”

Intro

In March 2011, Former President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan
approved the increment of the NYSC allowance from N9,775 to N19,800 and back
then, graduates were so happy to be lucky at the time of increase.

However, N19,800 might be a big deal back then in 2011 but with the economy and the worth of graduates now, that amount is very low and the expenses around and bills to settle monthly as a Corper always leave the N19,800 in dust at the end of the month.
