Well i had a similar challenge last year (2014) with my benz 190 in Ile Ife. I had to change the gear (40'000#) but something told me that the challenge did not warrant that. Later during the Christmas holiday, a mechanic friend of mine in lagos told me that such challenges do not warrant total change of the gear system. That what he did for a customer earlier that year was to change something (can't get the name now) and the car was up and going. This is far cheaper than changing the automatic gear system.

If you stay in lagos, you can get him at Edmund Crescent or Road, off Herbert Macauley or Off Murtala Mohammed Road in Yaba. Edmund Crescent is where you will find the Prebyterian Church and Nigeria Institute for Medical Research (NIMR).

They call him Alfa and his number is 07058971552 0r 08023434804.

Tell him his friend that stays in Ife that drives a red 190 benz recommended him. He will attend to you.

Wow u're God sent. I hope this helps. I know the area well, I once lived in surulere. So this alfa guy can solve this problem. So the complete gear box is up to 40k. When last did your friend service his transmission?
Each service entails transmission fluid & filter replacement.
We did that every year or two for the 200 I use & it hasn't given any fault for about 15 years now.

Its been long because he has another car and was out of the country for 4months. This may be the cause of the issue right. Tanx for your comment. Noted

A friend has this vboot with V6 engine and recently developed an auto gear fault. It wasn't selectin well. He applied gear oil and it got better but after two days and while traveln, it practically stopd. He restarted the engine end engaged the "D" gear but the car didn't move but the reverse "R" gear worked.

Please gurus in the house kindly give specific answers to these questions.

1. does this mean the gear box needs replacement or should he give a gear specialist to reset and service it.

2. how much is the complete auto gear box.

3. How much is it to convert an auto gear to manual gear

Would really appreciate if I can get expert solutions here because mechanics could be deceptive
