I'll rather pay a "technologist" or "technician" who solves my problem, than an engineer who can't. Little wonder these "technologists" or "technicians" as you call them, fool engineers because these engineers don't understand the technicalities of what they do, only the "technologist" or "technician" does. To be honest, I love this. Most of our engineering graduates, don't have the relevant skills needed by employers. They tell you in the university, we're only trained about the theory and not practical. However, the labour market needs the practical because that is what solves real life problems.
For instance, the artisan that repairs my generator can dismantle and couple the generator, something so many mechanical engineering graduates don't know how to do. He is not a graduate, but he gets well paid for what he does.
People pay for having practical knowledge not the theory.
