Politics / Democracy Day: Governor Dankwambo Leads The Pack by Dankwambo42019: 12:22pm On May 06, 2018
As the countdown begins ahead of May 29, 2018 Democracy Day, the administration of Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Talban Gombe, will get the most thumbs-up from people of the Gombe state and Nigeria as a whole having delivered on the dividends of democracy over the last seven years.

Talban Gombe’s achievements and contributions to the development of the state was part of the strongest points for campaign and still is a reference by his party the PDP. His government was prided by the PDP and many Nigerians as “the face of good governance in Nigeria.” His performance won him several nick names like “Talban Aiki’, ‘Super Governor’ ‘Tomorrow’s President’ and many more accolades.

Before highlighting some of the achievements of the present administration in the state, I want to say that despite the big political witchhunt and distractions from the opposition, he has not lost focus of the real essence of governance, especially in the area of improving the lives of the citizenry by ensuring delivery of infrastructural development that will affect the people both directly and indirectly.

For instance, Dankwambo has been commended for achieving several things much more than all his predecessors put together. One is his ability to dismantle the menace and excesses of the Kalare hoodlums turning them into worthy ambassadors of the state through different skill trainings and jobs. A problem which for many years portrayed Gombe state in a negative perspective.

Governor Dankwambo upgraded the 1500-bed Urban Maternity to Children & Women Hospital Idi. Constructed a Dialysis Centre, in the Specialist Hospital Gombe. Constructed College of Nursing and Midwifery, Dukku. Constructed a Snake-bite Centre in Kaltungo as well as supply and installation of 4 Dialysis machines and 2 chairs.

Governor Dankwambo rehabilitated and reticulated pipelines & extension to Kwami, Gadam etc. And provided extension of water supply to Baure, Dangar and many more communities not forgetting the construction of Earth dam at Boh, Shongom LGA.

Even in the midst of crunched economy, and technical recession, Governor Dankwambo has improved the living condition of Gombe People through laudable and human development oriented projects.

He established a micro finance bank for farmers and SMEs in all of the local Govt areas in the state and was to break the jinx of fertilizer monopoly by making much more available to the farmers as he procures over 200 tractors – from Mersi Ferguson of Italy as well as other farming implements. Talban Gombe constructed 24 times more roads that all of his predecessors – all of them had one dual use road and Talba has eight.

He renovated/constructed over 502 classrooms, recruited of over 1,000 Degree/NCE graduates apart from training of over 5,000 teachers. He also established a School of Basic and Remedial studies in Kumo, College of Education In Billiri, State Polytechnic in Bajoga, College of Legal and Islamic Studies in Nafada and sponsored 25 Students in Maritime Studies in India & United kingdom.university of science an technology kumo Akko established

Gombe has upgraded the Internatiknal Airport, which is fully functional and well equipped by the administration with regular flight schedules by Arik Air and Azman.

Governor Dankwambo has been recognized as the best labour friendly Governor for paying workers as at when due and prompt payment of pensions. The NLC themselves honoured him with that.

Gombe State being known as an agrarian state has been transformed within the past four (7) years through the procurement of 225 tractor units, markets were constructed to encourage cotton farm; restrained poultry farm among others.

Dankwambo has trained over 320 youths in six different trades in 4 skills acquisition centre. Trained 330 supervisors of citizenship and leadership Training Centre, Jos. Recruited 1500 youths as Traffic, Environmental and Security Marshals.Trained 5000 youths in welding, fabrication POP and Tiling.

Trained 1200 more violent youths under Talba Youths Reorientation and Rehabilitation. Empowered 1500 less poorest of the poor through conditional cash transfer (CCT). Disbursed loan obtained from BOI to 150 Co-operative Societies and released N500 million Trade Intervention Funds to traders in the State.

Dankwambo is by far the best governor in the country and anybody can find out the internally generated revenue and tax-payers money utilisation by Talban in embarking on people oriented projects and their timely completion is second to none.

Maintenance cultures is the back borne of matured democracy world over,Governor Dankwambo Talban Gombe did not only maintained but also completed all the inherited and abandoned projects in Gombe State.

His transparency and accountability to the people of Gombe state on how financial and material resources were expended and distribution of projects across the states’ senatorial districts is almost perfect.

During an on the spot assessment of projects in the states in order to enable anybody have first hand information on the viability and impact his programmes will have on the socio-economic lives of the people – Dankwambo is rated second to none.

If all of these is not clear testimony of Governor Dankwambo’s vision and progressive nature, the fact that the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in New York single him out for a special recognition and award for his contributions towards the historic revolution of education and other basic sectors in Gombe. It is also worthy of note that the award itself was presented to him the United Nations Headquarters.

Politics / Who Is Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo? by Dankwambo42019: 10:19am On May 01, 2018
For a very long time, a lot of people have been curious to find out who Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is. This public interest heightened especially after the young man’s stint as Nigeria’s number one accountant, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).

Even, while he served as the Accountant General of Gombe State, the love and affection, humility and friendly disposition of the youthful Dankwambo attracted much public interest in his person. In all the quiet conversations, which the Dankwambo persona elicits, some people were of the view that the true test of a man’s character could only unfurl when he is in a position of power and great influence.

And, as if nature was in a hurry to answer for the affable young man, in 2011, the subtle reservations of the skeptics were rebuffed in great relief, because Dankwambo became the Chief Executive of Gombe State, the Jewel of the Savannah! Yet, four years on the saddle as governor, there was nothing to repudiate the friendliness, humanity and empathy towards others, which defined his interpersonal relations.

As a result, in 2015 when the power of the people to enthrone and dethrone leaders was unleashed in the land, Governor Dankwambo received the massive endorsement of Gombe people, who reciprocated his genuine love and care by re-electing him for a second term in office.

So, with his emergence as the last man standing, the self-effacing and visionary leader had the people answer the skeptics that he is real and most importantly, that power does not change those who hold it in trust and see it as opportunity to serve God and humanity.

That Dankwambo is not vain has become a virtue of public knowledge. He is neither discriminatory nor dismissive of the poor or downtrodden. He demonstrates that charity and philanthropy are essential ingredients of good leadership.

Now more than ever before, the question, who is Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo is still being echoed in high crescendo in both low and high quarters, near and distant lands. Yet, answers are being thrown up by various organisations and communities.

When Governor Dankwambo donated his family house for a primary school, it was not only his own way of giving back, but also a genuine show of empathy towards the younger generation to get access to functional education.

As a leader, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo’s heart strikes a rhythm with those of the people; he feels what they feel and does what he can to lift up every soul from despondency to hope and happiness.

Dankwambo is a technocrat in the true sense of the word. During his civil service career, he was a member, CBN Board of Directors; President/Chairman, Accountants-General and Auditors-General Forum of West Africa; Chairman, ECOWAS Audit Committee; Board Member, Extractive Industries Transparency International, etc. As Accountant-General of the Federation he is remembered for the introduction of many transparency-inspired reforms, such as Treasury Single Account, E-payment and Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS), Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) among others.

There is a big side to the enthralling Dankwambo persona. His temperament disposes him to resonant leadership style. Experts believe that a leader’s emotional states and actions affect how the people they lead will feel and perform. He displays a friendly mood all the time and this has sort of shown in the achievements he has recorded in Gombe despite very paltry fiscal accruals.

The first step he took after mounting the saddle as governor did much to showcase his temperament and primal leadership disposition. He retained almost all the aides of his predecessor and focused on the target of service for the people. This way, he built optimism and inspired on his aides to work as a team for the benefit of the people.

A resonant leader is often known by the level of his emotional state, because since everybody most often watches the leader, his disposition becomes contagious. And standing on the solid ground of honesty and integrity, his inner circle cannot help but reflect the charisma their leader exudes.

The fact that Dankwambo does not harbor hidden agenda in the exercise of public office helps to immunize him from what is called the CEO disease. Y and backstabbing.

As Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo turns 56 years, it is obvious that like good wine, he is getting better with age. Nigerians should do well to see this budding institution as a veritable source to learn some useful lessons in good leadership and inter-personal relations.

Since the true test of a leader is his influence, Dankwambo’s abiding good nature and goodwill towards all is no doubt refining leadership and citizenship across Nigeria.

Politics / Dankwambo: The Redeemer Cometh? by Dankwambo42019: 10:21am On Apr 30, 2018
The meeting was so guarded it could have passed for the conclave of the cardinals in search of a Pope. It certainly was not a conclave of cardinals to elect a Pope. But it came very close. All, governors, serving and old, former ministers, elders of the party, professionals, respected public analysts as well as intellectuals and sundry public-spirited individuals who had been carefully selected across all divides, drove themselves to the meeting venue and left their security details in another venue. The session was intense and furious. In an attempt by different wings of the Nigerian elite to find who can lead the country to the future, this kind of nocturnal gatherings was expected. But nothing has probably ever come close to this high-level meeting as witnessed in Abuja that day.

For Nigeria, at least, the good news is that there is a serious search by the elite for a credible alternative to what many would consider the best turned the worst for Nigeria, one that has dashed hopes and smashed beliefs to smithereens. For the opposition, members of which actually convened this conclave, it is even much more. This is the time to retool for Nigera’s progress and remind Nigerians of the party of Alex Ekwueme, the G-18, the G-34, the party of Sunday Bolorunduro Awoniyi, the party of Isyaku Ibrahim, Shehu Yar’Adua, Umaru Yar’Adua Theophilus Danjuma, Solomon Lar, Audu Ogbeh (now in APC), the party that united all Nigerians. So, the meeting was to find a way of sending this message to Nigerians: the party that took Nigerians for granted is now ready to redeem itself and give the nation a purposeful leadership of knowledge and competence.

And the conclusion was that the kind of presidential candidate presented by the PDP for the next election would make or mar the party. Hence the seriousness of secrecy that day last week and the banishment of emotions, status and frivolities. Now, the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, has not come out with a presidential candidate Nigerians across all divides can relate to or identify with but the search may have been narrowed down to a few persons. Atiku Abubakar, the perennial and perpetually mobile candidate, who is well acknowledged as being well prepared as former vice president and an ideas man, is on the stumps.

Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State is on the discussion table. Of course, there are others, currently in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who are being speculated on account of their political origins, as likely PDP candidates. But at the meeting in Asokoro District of Abuja last week, the name that dominated all discussions was Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo, current governor of Gombe State and perhaps the most successful Accountant-General of the Federation Nigeria has ever had the benefit of his service. And as the world moves towards knowledge-driven and astute leadership, in the matter of Nigeria’s future leadership, Ibrahim Dankwanbo’s name and life journey so far gave that meeting some serious food for thought.

Is he the breath of fresh air Nigeria needs now? In addition to his intimidating credentials as a professional, a technocrat, a financial expert and a political leader with a wide reach across Nigeria, he is young, at 56, and has the kind of worldview the nation needs now. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, was born on April 4, 1962 at Herwagana Ward in Gombe town, Gombe State. He attended Central primary school, Gombe and Government Secondary School Billiri in Gombe State. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting second class (honours) upper Division, being the second best result obtained by any individual in the then Bauchi State. He further enrolled for Masters of Science Degree, in Economics from University of Lagos. Dankwambo was not satisfied with academic pursuit, he decided to study Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science at the Delta State University Abraka, Delta State. He finally caps it up with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Phd) from Igbinedon University, Okada.

Professionally, Dankwambo has proved to be exemplar. He has passed through the qualifying examinations of seven (7) professional bodies and consequently was awarded membership of those professional institutions. He passed the examinations of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and qualified as a Chartered Accountant only a year after his graduation from the university, a feat most professional chartered accountants will agree is rare to achieve. Today he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (FCIB), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (FCIT), a Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM) and a Fellow of the Nigerian Economic Society (FNES).

Alhaji Dankwambo has had various international exposures by attending training programmes, which further molded and shaped him as a refined and seasoned Accountant, Economist and an Administrator. He started his career at the firm, Coopers and Lybrand International, (Chartered Accountants), now PriceWaterHouseCoopers where he was from 1985 to 1988. He later joined the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1988 and was there until 1999, The then governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Habu Hashidu spotted the unique qualities in Dankwanbo and appointed him the Accountant-General of Gombe State. He held this position until April 20, 2005 when the then Accountant General of the Federation Mr J.K Naiyeju was retiring. Again the unique qualities of Dankwambo became obvious to all, having served at various committees at the Federation Account and President Olusegun Obasanjo, who noticed his brilliance as well as efficiency appointed him the Accountant-General of the Federation, the position he held until he was overwhelmingly elected the governor of Gombe State. Dankwambo has chaired and served in committees as well as served as board member of some government parastatals at various times.

He was the president/chairman of the forum of Accountants-General and Auditors-General in West Africa (FAAGWA), and had earlier served as the Protem Secretary of the same organisation, He was the co-chairman, standardisation of federal, state and local government accounts in Nigeria, a body formed by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to harmonise the Accounting and Reporting of Financial Statements by the three tiers of government. On assumption of office as the Accountant-General of the Federation, he became the Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee of the FAAC, a committee saddled with the responsibility of determining how the national revenues are shared equitably amongst the three tiers of governments, that is, the federal, state and local governments. He discharged himself creditably and earned the respect of all. Dankwambo was also the chairman of the Audit Committee of ECOWAS, a board member of the Central Bank of Nigeria, board members of the debt management office. On the international scene, he was a board member, Royal Swaziland Sugar Company, Southern Africa and member of the board of Extractive Industries Transparency International. He also sat on the board of many successful companies across a wide spectrum of the nation’s or world economy.

Dankwambo’s reign as the Accountant-General of the Federation brought about very laudable unique and revolutionary reforms to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation which includes the following;

The Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS) is yet another giant stride achieved by Dankwambo as salaries of Staff all over the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) started being paid centrally, using an automated system.. This eliminated the complaints of delayed payment of salaries by MDA’s and ghost workers’ syndrome got minimised. Nigerians applaud Treasury Single Account (TSA) today, but they need to know the real hero behind it. Dankwambo, as Accountant-General of Nigeria was the one who ensured that he completed the institution of Treasury Single Account which is simply an account or set of linked accounts through which government transacts its financial operations in such a way that its financial position can be determined easily for the facilitation and timely reconciliation of cash balances.

In his quest to evolve a very robust financial management system of the Federal Government he worked tirelessly to install a financial management system called the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS). This is an ICT integrated system, which computerises the Public Financial Management processes from budget preparation, execution, accounting and reporting.

On assumption of office as the Accountant-General of the Federation, centralisation of Capital Accounts was a challenge to Dankwanbo. This centralisation had caused delays in implementing projects at the federal level. Dankwambo ensured that this centralisation was removed, thereby enabling ministries, departments and agencies to process and make payments for contracts awarded after obtaining due certification for the projects. Other reforms he embarked upon included the New Chart of Accounts, the Accounting Transactions Recording and Reporting System (ATRRS), which removed the stress of having to prepare and carry hard copies of Accounts by Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for Consolidation. The International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) gap analysis was one effort by the Alhaji Dankwambo to upgrade the preparation and reporting of Nigeria’s Financial Statements up to International Standards.

He also embarked on the upgrading of the federal treasury academy to university standard for the training of Public Sector Accountants and affiliating it to a highly recognised public sector professional body in the United Kingdom, (the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) United Kingdom). On assumption of office, one of the responsibilities he was saddled with was the payment of severance benefits to members of staff of some erstwhile government parastatals and companies that were either privatised or were in the process of being privatised. Some of these included Nigeria Airways, Nigerian Telecommunications Company (NITEL), Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and many others. The office, under his leadership, also undertook successfully the payment of severance benefits to all right-sised employees of federal ministries, departments and agencies, as well as payment of pensions nationwide. He discharged all these creditably.

As governor of Gombe State, Dankwanbo has distinguished himself in the areas of education, which was his first, second and third priority, the provision of infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, environmental degradation control and economic empowerment. He is the first governor to create a cogent development plan for Gombe State and has gone ahead to implement the plan, thereby putting the state on the right track for sustainable development. An uncommon visionary, he is also the governor who conceived of a Marshal Plan for the development of the North-east and organised the Northeast Economic Summit (2013) to bring the plan into a regional development blueprint acceptable to all stakeholders, which is to bring about economic growth and permanently check the security challenges in the North-East sub-region.

A committed and principled politician, he is the one and only PDP second-term governor in the north of Nigeria who successfully stood against the so-called “Buhari Storm” and, as a result of his good governance, prudent financial management, justice, fairness and equity to his people, remained on his political platform to win re-election. As a banker, he set so much store of winning the people’s trust, as was in the days of the bankers of old, that he could be described as one of the real bankers, a sure banker or a man Nigerians can bank on.

Politics / Dankwambo’s Eyes On The Presidency by Dankwambo42019: 10:18am On Apr 27, 2018
BY all definitions, leadership ability is not acquired by chance but out of a conscious and sustained effort for the purpose of building a better and developed society.

The qualities of sound leadership are as clearly visible as the negative antecedents and mediocrity of political jobbers that populate Nigeria’s political space. Nigerians have since independence complained because most public office holders lacked true leadership qualities.

So, I was genuinely pleasantly surprised when I encountered the Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Talban Gombe. This is because for once in a long while, I saw a public office holder who exemplified the real attributes that define what sound leadership is all about in contemporary Nigeria.

First I discovered that in all his dealings, he has been able to distinguish himself by his academic, professional, public service and political careers. More remarkable is the fact that he had in the process, exceeded all expectations while shattering all known precedents and records set by his predecessors or peers, be it at the state, federal, regional or international level.

His distinguished career began from Coopers & Lybrand and continued at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, from where he was appointed the Gombe State Accountant- General. And on account of his unrelenting hard work, perseverance, dedication and commitment to duty as well as displaying the highest level of professionalism which translated to notable achievements, he has received numerous awards, laurels and commendations. So, it was not surprising that he was soon after appointed the Accountant- General of the Federation before he answered the call of his people to contest the 2011 gubernatorial election which he won to the joy of his numerous supporters.

Particularly worthy of note is the fact that Dankwambo’s commitment to excellence and exemplary performance is only matched by his honesty and sense of integrity. For instance, while most public office holders delight in looting the public till, Talban Gombe continued to demonstrate that he is not in that infamous category. And it is this trait which has endeared him to his peers, colleagues, underlings and political superiors alike.

As events continue to play out in the country, his watchword has remained strict neutrality and a rigid stance that did not favour many partisan interests. This adroit posture has earned him tremendous admiration and even grudging respect from all factions of the political class in Gombe State and beyond.

Having cut his teeth in turning around the Gombe State accounting system for the better, Dankwambo wasted precious little time in applying the same principles at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as he had successfully formulated viable policies and financial strategies that the financial system of the country is today relying on.

After this, his next port of call to serve humanity was nearer home, Gombe State, after he succumbed to his people’s pressure and agreed that it was time to change the prevailing status quo for the better. The Jewel of the Savannah was then in the grip of political godfathers, potentates and crown princes who regarded the state as their personal fiefdom and its resources to be squandered and apportioned as they and their acolytes and cronies thought fit.

Therefore, armed with his awesome credentials as a highly reputed and tremendously regarded public servant, Talba, had within days of being sworn in as the Executive Governor, kick-started a series of working visits across the state to see for himself the hitherto shambled and dilapidated government structures and abused public service system encapsulated by shady dealings, financial mismanagement and marginalisation of the majority by those who felt they owned the government and considered same as their personal estate by doing and undoing things to favour them to the detriment of the masses.

After properly diagnosing the state, Dankwambo had later come up with an 11-sector base committee of relevant professionals with terms of reference centred on formulating a working template and blueprint for the development of the state and rescuing the formerly abused public service. Consequently, following the submission of the various committees’ reports, Dankwambo swung into action and soon executed all the viable recommendations with preferential considerations to the education, health, agriculture, and infrastructural sectors of the state.

Today, under the stewardship of the Talban Gombe, the state has turned out to be the most developed and transformed in the whole of the North-Eastern zone as evidenced by numerous state-of-the-art infrastructure made possible by workable administrative policies and strategies. Indeed, a visitor to the state cannot help but notice that thousands of kilometres of roads have been constructed all over the state, including model primary and secondary schools in all the 11 local government areas of the state.

At the same time, old ones are fully renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. There have also been notable interventions to upgrade hospitals and other health-related facilities; farmers have also benefited from government interventions as they have been provided with subsidised fertiliser, tractors and other farm implements.

At the same time, tens of thousands of women and youths have been trained in different skills acquisition programmes and also provided with start-up capital. Indeed, the giant International Conference Centre, Petroleum Tankers Parking Bay, Gombe Mega Motor Park are projects that can only be found in Gombe State despite the lean resources at the disposal of the administration.

In fact, it bears repeating that Dankwambo has transformed Gombe State into the industrial and agrarian hub of the North-East zone, a position that it enviably occupied in the past. In the process, he has changed the infrastructural, developmental, industrial and manufacturing landscape of the state for the better while drastically reducing its poverty, maternal and child mortality rates.

It is, therefore, not a surprise that many political activists, leaders of thought and influential pundits have called on Dankwambo to throw his hat in the ring by declaring his interest in the presidential contest so that Nigerians will have the opportunity of reaping the countless democratic dividends that he has been rendering to Gombe State and its people.

Politics / Gombe Suggests N28, 000 As National Minimum Wage by Dankwambo42019: 9:35am On Apr 27, 2018
The Gombe State Government has recommended N28, 000 as the new minimum wage to be paid to civil servants across the country.
The position was presented yesterday by the state Head of Civil Service and Chairman of Minimum Wage Committee, Alhaji Adamu Haruna Abubakar, at the North-east zonal public hearing organised by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.

He added that the new minimum wage could only be realized if the federal government reviewed the revenue allocation formula in favour of the states and local government areas.

Abubakar said the federal government should also initiate interventions to states so that whatever minimum wage was approved would be conveniently adopted and implemented in the states.

“The federal government should take up payment of differences between the present N18, 000 minimum wage with any new minimum wage to be approved,” he said.

The head of service said the federal government must seriously enforce price control mechanism on goods and services to curb inflation and arbitrary increase in cost.

He said the state government on its part would diversify internally generated revenue, especially within the informal sector of the economy, to be able to generate more funds for the provision of infrastructure.

The state committee also recommended the review of the minimum wage after every five years.
“Federal government should encourage states and LGAs to implement the new minimum wage, while those who failed to implement the new wage should be sanctioned appropriately,” he added.

Politics / Dankwambo Decries Rising Cases Of Rape In Gombe by Dankwambo42019: 10:50am On Apr 18, 2018
Gov Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe has decried the rising cases of rape in the state, and called for concerted efforts to tackle the menace.

“Cases of rape are on the rise in Gombe; in the last three weeks, an average of two cases were recorded everyday,” Dankwambo said on Tuesday in Gombe, when he received the state’s chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

The women lawyers were at the Government House on a courtesy call on the governor as part of activities to mark the 2018 FIDA Week.

He said that in one bizarre instance, a 60-year-old man was caught raping a four-year-old girl.

The governor said that government alone could not correct the ills of the society, and urged the women lawyers, as mothers, to partner with government toward a better society.

Dankwambo said that he had directed heads of security agencies to deploy sufficient personnel to girls boarding schools across the state to ensure their safety.

“The security of children in schools are guaranteed; parents should feel free to send their children and wards to boarding schools,” he said.

He said that a Faculty of Law would soon be established at the Gombe State University (GSU), adding that the faculty would serve as a Centre for Research and Continued Education for lawyers within and outside the state.

Speaking earlier, Miss Sa’adatu Ishaya, Gombe State Chairperson of FIDA, said that women lawyers were the voice of the voiceless in the society, especially women and children.

She expressed deep concern over incessant rape cases and drug abuse among children and youth, regretting that parents were not always willing to report the cases for fear of stigmatisation.

Ishaya appealed to the governor to adopt the Child Rights Act to give solace to the children.

The FIDA chairperson called on the government to fence all girls’ schools to ensure their safety. (NAN)

TANKERS PARKING BAY

The conception of this facility is borne out of the urgent need to reduce the frequent bloody road mishaps which has claimed many lives in the heart of the town through accidents involving heavy duty vehicles such as trailers and petroleum tankers. It was also conceived to decongest the town from reckless parking of these long heavy vehicles.

The tankers bay consist of a restaurant for rental, two side shops for rental, fire service station and gate house, administrative block, Mosque and a urinary section, public convenience, mechanical workshop for rental, tankers washing bay and a lot of extensive work done on the external parts the bay.

Very important too is that the bay, for security and revenue source, has ticking machine at the entrance that captures all the vehicles that comes in and out and how long the vehicle stays in the park. With Gombe strategically located in the North-East, it is a rewarding project for the state as vehicles going to Yobe, Borno, and especially Adamawa and Taraba states must come through Gombe from the North-Central states and Abuja.

Crime / "No Child Anywhere In Nigeria Should Be Made To Go Through This Kind Of Pain" by Dankwambo42019: 10:54am On Mar 28, 2018
'No child anywhere in Nigeria should be made to go through this kind of pain" - Gov. Dankwambo reacts to the amputation of 12-year-old boy's hands

The Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo has directed the Commissioner for Justice to ensure that the culprit whose action led to the amputation of young Zubairu Abubakar's hands, is arrested and prosecuted.

The governor also promised to settle all the medical bills incurred in the treatment of the 12-year-old child.

Dankwambo made the promise when he paid a visit to the victim at the FTH , Gombe, on Monday.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner Ministry for Justice , Abdulhameed Ibrahim, promised that the state government would look into the matter and take the necessary legal action against the suspect.

He advised the parents of the victim to be patient, and assured them that government would do everything possible to assist the boy.

"Government has taken over the medical bills of the victim . The governor is really concerned and feels that , for no reason, should the boy be allowed to suffer any further. I am calling on you to be patient. Already , it has happened ; the only thing to be done is to see how we will assist him to be in good health," he said.

“The police are investigating the matter and whoever is found culpable will face the law,” he said.

In another statement, the governor said that he will be responsible for the boy's education.

"I want to specially thank each and everyone of you who drew my attention to what happened to Young Zubairu.," he said.

"I read all your reactions and opinions on this platform and I heed to so many of them.

I’m currently out of Gombe but I have instructed the commissioner for Justice and Women Affairs to pay Zubairu a visit at the hospital where he is currently receiving treatement.

I have directed the commissioner for Justice to ensure that the culprit of this dastardly act is arrested and prosecuted.

I have also instructed my team to ensure all his medical bills are well taken care of.

Henceforth, I will be responsible for his education.

No child anywhere in the North or elsewhere in Nigeria should be made to go through this kind of pain on account of primordial beliefs.

For kids like Zuberu to be able to aspire and as well acquire basic education in life, I personally converted my family house in Gombe to a school where the Almajiris will be given Quranic and conventional education simultaneously.

May Allah bring him quick healing. Amen."

Meanwhile, father of the victim, Malam Yusha ’u Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the governor for the financial and moral support given to his family. He said that without the timely intervention of the state government, it would have been very difficult for the family to take care of all the medical bills .
