THE ABANDONED ROAD OF AFROMEDIA, AJANGBADI - OJO, LAGOS - PHOTOS

The construction for this road was awarded at about the same time that the Igbo-Elerin Road, linking Iba Road with the Badagry Expressway was being constructed about 7 years ago by the Fashola administration. But as these pictures attests, this road was abandoned and since then it has become a nightmare for the residents and motorists plying the route. Many vehicles, motorcycles (Okada) and 'Keke NAPEP' had been destroyed by the deep holes on the road. These pictures, taken during the dry season show the abandoned portions of the road leading to the Badagry Expressway. With the rains here again, the road has become virtually impassable, even for pedestrians. The Contractors stopped the construction at front of the Bale's compound some years ago. It is rumoured that they had the effrontery to do that because the Bale of the community had been 'settled' and he did not have the moral right to question the stoppage of the road construction. Littered on the road are break down vehicles that has been hit by the worsening state of the road with blocks, sand and gravel used in the construction blocking both sides of the road to compound the wahala that motorists have to face on daily basis. It is an embarrassment to even invite friends to the town. The question on many lips is why begin what you cannot complete. The attention of the Fashola's government had been drawn to this matter to complete what they started seven years ago to no avail. We now call on the new governor Ambode to look into the matter and sanction those responsible for this mess to ensure speedy completion of this long abandoned road.
